Same… I had a 100 yr old mango tree in my backyard too as a little girl… random strangers used to break into our yard to steal the mangoes and the tree attracted a lot of bats. It produced soo many mangos that we couldn’t eat half of them!

My neighbor also has a great Hayden mango tree that overlooks my property…he always gives me mangoes, so I do everything in my power to clean up all the leaves from both our houses and I would never think of telling him to cut it down. We’ve been neighbors for 40+ years now and I used to watch his dad prune that mango tree in the late 1970s!
Y’know it’s almost like being a good neighbor….is a good thing! 🤔 My parents are friendly to their neighbors and have had people blow their driveway clear of leaves, being in their trash cans, get their mail, etc…because they’re all nice to each other. Another good mango picker is one of those handheld fishing nets attached to a long pole or bamboo stick. The little groove is good for pulling the fruit from the tree and it can hold lots mangos if your arms handle the it (mine can’t). And when the net gets a hole you can just replace it with a cloth bag! Worked for my family for generations

These low branches completely block visibility when pulling out on the left side of the road. It caused multiple fender benders. I say next time around look up tree law related stuff and maybe there’s a way to protect the tree in the future in case another situation like this happens again cause the oak trees at my local park is protected, maybe there’s something similar for your tree. When I was 5 I went on a trip to Thailand for like a month with my family, during that month I grew to love Thai food but especially the ripe mangoes stuck to me. I consider mangoes to be the best fruit and I’m so happy to hear that this tree will stay up and keep producing fruit for years to come!

I actually think about this guy's fight for his beloved mango tree pretty often. My grandfather planted a mango tree with a lock of my hair in my front yard when I was born. I’m almost 26 now and so is the tree, it truly is one of my most prized possessions, especially since gramps has passed. I’d never let anyone touch her. I look forward to climbing that tree with kids of my own some day.

The reason he got the house is because the mango tree on the property is very well developed it would take at least like 15 years for a tree to get to a reasonable size.
Even when grafting it'd take over several decades until the tree will start giving fruit. And there's no guarantee that it'll even live for long since there's so many factors at play. Especially in an urban environment.
