Same… I had a 100 yr old mango tree in my backyard too as a little girl… random strangers used to break into our yard to steal the mangoes and the tree attracted a lot of bats. It produced soo many mangos that we couldn’t eat half of them!

Good on you! My neighbor also has a great Hayden mango tree that overlooks my property…he always gives me mangoes, so I do everything in my power to clean up all the leaves from both our houses and I would never think of telling him to cut it down. We’ve been neighbors for 40+ years now and I used to watch his dad prune that mango tree in the late 1970s!

I’m sure if this guy’s neighbor was a bit less of a sourpuss they’d be enjoying some gifted mangos!

Another good mango picker is one of those handheld fishing nets attached to a long pole or bamboo stick. The little groove is good for pulling the fruit from the tree and it can hold lots mangos if your arms handle the it (mine can’t). And when the net gets a hole you can just replace it with a cloth bag! Worked for my family for generations

My grandfather planted a mango tree with a lock of my hair in my front yard when I was born. I’m almost 26 now and so is the tree, it truly is one of my most prized possessions, especially since gramps has passed. I’d never let anyone touch her. I look forward to climbing that tree with kids of my own some day.

Even when grafting it'd take over several decades until the tree will start giving fruit. And there's no guarantee that it'll even live for long since there's so many factors at play. Especially in an urban environment.
