- An expanded port of the original arcade Dragon Spirit, the Famicom version (later released on NES as again simply Dragon Spirit) is a pretty cool Namco classic that plays similar to other shoot 'em ups of the day with the distinction that instead of being a plane or a space ship, you control a man-dragon thing that can transform depending on the power up. Very inventive and unusual, even now.
I really love Amul's design for some reason, especially the official artwork and animations like this. I really wish this series had more of a legacy or fandom
Awesome!
the father of drakengard
More like medieval Xevious
Hace poco compré este videojuego pensando que era cobre y en realidad era oro puro, I love this videogame yeah!!
Romancing Shooting ? Is 'romancing 'the faux-European fantasy style of anime we saw a good chunk back then?
I'm sure it was!
+welcometoGARYVILLE I have no idea this time. Romancing Shooting is something they said in katakana, so Namcot apparently decided that was the genre. Why exactly that is though, is a big ol' mystery.
Satoshi Matrix Who knows, I suppose someone wanted drama in their shooter.
The plot of Dragon Spirit involves a soldier of an army turning into a dragon to so rescue his hot-ass princess. If you look at official art, Namco went out of their way to make he princess gorgeous, in stark contrast to the somewhat generic designs of most game princesses.
I therefore think that "Romantic Shooting game" refers to the fact that the princess was hot, and the reason the dude turned into a dragon to rescue her was to romance her.
This IS Namco we're talking about. The previous year they also made Phelios, another game with a ridiculously hot princess. Maybe in their eyes, "Romancing Shooting game" was a genre and they were going to make a whole series of them.
+Jesus Zamora Well, that's SaGa, which started out localization life as Final Fantasy Legend because Final Fantasy meant RPG same as Tetris meant Puzzler. Also SaGa isn't Namco or Namcot.
I love this port so much.
