    Are your heart babies in direct sunlight? If so, for how long? How long does it take to sprout 🌱 up? I just planted mine a few days ago and am eager for it to grow and bloom.🙈 Lastly, did you cut it back in the winter or left it completely alone? I never want to cut mine and have to start over again. Thanks!😄♥️✨

      @bloomandwiltgardens  3 роки тому

      I have two. South facing is direct sun and blooming now. East facing gets partial sun and is still very small.
      When I planted last year it took a few weeks before anything new sprouted up and didn’t get very big. No blooms. Died back on its own and no cutting needed.
      South facing one grew quickly this spring, much bigger, and is featured in this video. You’ll likely not get blossoms this first year as it takes time for them to get established.

    So i just planted mine. Will it not bloom this summer:(

    • @bloomandwiltgardens
      @bloomandwiltgardens  2 роки тому

      It may not. Mine did not bloom the first year. I had some green growth, but it was far too small to blossom. Unfortunately the packages don’t tell you this. Most bare root perennial plants spend their first year getting established and a good root system to support flowering the next year.
      BUT I promise you it’s worth the wait!! If you’re thinking about planting any kind of bare root, just get them in as soon as you can to see them flower. The longer you wait to plant the more years you wait for flowers. 💗 You’ve got this!

    Can you replant the bleeding heart when taking out of the garden?

    • @bloomandwiltgardens
      @bloomandwiltgardens  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, you can transplant it to another location. Best to do it either early in Spring before it blossoms, or after the blossoms have faded. If it's a well established plant, you can also separate sections of the root and get more plants!

    You should soak the rhizomes for 15 minutes prior to planting. There is a white variety of bleeding heart that around the stamen’s is a beautiful touch of fuschia pink. I wish I knew the name and have been watching bleeding heart videos to figure out the name … it came out of my husband’s grandmothers after she passed along with ferns, hostas,, Astibles and a lot of muscari bulbs. I have designated a garden area for her. …all shade, dappled shade as she had many fruiting trees. I wish I could have gotten more before they tore here house down. 1889 and very little done on the in side..clean but very frugal so I imagine she did a lot of propagation.

      Wonderful tip thank you!
      I have a white variety as well I just planted last year. I’m hoping it fills out nicely this spring.
      Your grandmothers garden sounds beautiful. I think that’s so honorable you creating a garden in her memory. Thanks so much for sharing that.

      You typicallystart these from bare roots. Similar as you would a tulip bulb. Stores will often carry the roots in the early spring. If shopping online look up “bleeding heart bare root”

    • @bloomandwiltgardens
      @bloomandwiltgardens  3 роки тому

      Dig a deep hole, set it in, cover with soil and water well. The greenery will die back over the summer. It should grow back up next spring. Good luck!

    I love bleeding hearts. My great grandmothers grew them in Iowa. I don’t know that I’ve see them here in Alabama other than in hanging baskets. Maybe too hot too soon?

      I found this at Walmart! It was early spring though, March/April when they first set out all the bulbs. You could also try searching online. I’m sure there are nurseries that carry the roots year round for shipping.
