You really explain the plays and personal better than anyone I've watched and listened too. Very awesome to do this for all people who love football that don't know the terminology. Thanks.

Good info. I wish you could get/use the All-22 as sometimes the TV feed has the important stuff take place "off-screen." But I appreciate your insights. Though it still sounds to me like "hind-sight" influenced your judgment on questioning the coach. Every play has potential problems. At the end of the 1st half I think Vigen was going, "I've gotten the ball 2x this half. I'm down multiple scores. NDSU is built for this. I don't want to punt if it's even conceivable that I make the 1st down. Maybe I can get a score and "double-up" coming out of halftime and we're right back in this thing.
Remember, if NDSU doesn't score or only gets a field goal going into half they might play the 2nd half differently. When MSU got to within 10 NDSU went into "maintain the lead/get the clock to 0:00 as fast as possible" mode. If you change something that early in the game it is a bad assumption that everything else goes the same. It might have, but it might not have.
One of the best analyses I've read/heard for the 2nd half is NDSU got a lead and then fought to keep MSU at arms length. MSU fought heroically to get it to within 3. Then NDSU got it back to 10 and back and forth. Don't get me wrong. I am not saying NDSU wasn't trying to score on every drive. But I do think the play calling will drift more conservative if they are up by multiple possessions as running an extra couple minutes off the clock has real value too.
One decision that I disagree with isn't being talked about because what MSU did worked. But to me Vigen should have kicked a field goal on that last 4th-and-2 when he threw the last MSU touchdown. If they don't convert and NDSU gets the ball they are down by 10 and NDSU is able to drive and take time off the clock at the very least and maybe run MSU out of TOs. And that assumes that MSU plays perfectly and doesn't give up even a single yard, much less a 1st down or 2, or worse yet, a score. Down by 10 a field goal puts you down by 7. If you fail to convert the 4th down you get nothing to show for a drive that used up valuable time. You need 2 scores. Field goals are almost always the result of a drive. TDs can be scored on punt return, scoop-and-score/pick-6 turnover or a drive. I'm not saying that's what he "should have" done but that he took what I consider an unnecessary risk. While a FG isn't "automatic" it keeps the threat alive. If they turn the ball over there they still need 2 possessions and the time remaining is getting vanishingly small. And lots of stuff can happen on a pass. If the pass thrown was off even slightly it goes out of bounds. What if NDSU gets a blitz like they did against SDSU at the end of that game. There's just too many things that could go wrong on that 4th-and-2. You are the top rushing team in the country. If you can't get 2-3 yards with the championship on the line something is deeply wrong. From where I see it there were a lot more bad things that could happen than good things that could happen.

🤔 ANOTHER "STRANGE DECISION" THAT I DID NOT AGREE WITH WAS THE CATS WON THE COIN TOSS, BUT ELECTED NOT TO RECIEVE THE BALL! 🤯 THAT WASN'T THEIR USUAL DECISION AND THEY ENDED UP CHASING POINTS THE REST OF THE GAME! ☹️ WHY DID THEY DO THAT? 🙄

You do realize the holding call in the end zone was a BS call, he wasn't held plus the ball was uncatchable and MT.ST probly only get 3pts. But thts how poor the refs have been all season.

That's his opinion. Im an NDSU fan and had no problem with him saying that even tho I disagree with the statement. He felt like his team would have won the game if they played the entire game like they played in the 2nd half

@MGerardJosephson You have zero clue...If the better team always won, then there would be no such thing as an upset. The undefeated Patriots lost a superbowl to a Giants team that had 5 losses. The Patriots were very clearly the better team but they lost. The better team lost. It happens. In fact, that game was ranked as the #2 biggest upset in NFL history.

Great analysis! Game was lost in the first half. Montana State needed to play the full 60 minutes… not the last 30. Looked like deer in the headlights syndrome. NDSU has been there and knew what it takes to become Champions.

I did not see one time where the Montana defensive line made Cam Miller rush a throw. NDSU should’ve thrown more on first downs. It just took Montana too long to realize their offense could not win one on one individual match ups and power football. Once they moved to the trickeration and misdirection, they moved the ball. NDSU could get what they wanted on offense whenever they wanted. The play game was when 56 didn’t get trashcan Tommy down and gave them a reasonable down and distance on fourth down right before half.Vigen had no reason to believe that his defense was going to stop NDSU in the second half, and MSU didn’t. With limited offensive possessions, he knew he wasn’t going to get many more opportunities for points, And with Trashcan Tommy’s scrambling ability, his chances were pretty good with that down and distance. Cam “CLUTCH” Miller should have won the Payton. Period. He was changing up the protections and the play call at the line of scrimmage, getting them into the best play for the Defense and threw with accuracy. He was the best player on the field that night, he got his stats from playing in the best conference in FCS and againstseven teams with winning records. Anyway, A lot of NDS, you fans felt that if they could get a couple early scores, MSU would fold up like a cheap card table. And if not for a phantom holding call in the end zone, this game was never as close as the score.
