It is incredible to see how people around the world value Frida's work while here in Mexico she's so widely diminished as an artist. On many occasions I have heard other Mexicans say that their work has no value at all. I am amazed by the fact that we, the Mexican people, are the ones who judge our artists so negatively, while the rest of the world rejoices with their art.
Thanks Ted-Ed for this and all your amazing videos. Greetings from México

Totally agree with you. Even if her technique was not the best (I don't know, but that's one of the most common critiques to her art) her concepts are what actually make her paintings great. Though I've always liked her art.

I absolutely worship Frida Kahlo! Her magical realism is profound. Like Kahlo, I have also experienced spinal problems and neuropathic pain for most of my adult life. So her work, especially The Broken Column, gives a beautiful voice to the pain I've had. Thank you for featuring her.

She contracted polio and bus accident done tremendous damage to her body and she was lived dying, experiencing tremendous pain and her childhood was so sad and her mom sometimes very cruel.. Eventhough she had pain, she laid her footmark in history. And today we are learning about her.. Such a brave heart..

It can also give a glimpse on the way that person lives, experiences, their perspective, beliefs, and their state of mind. We dont need more artists to be like her. Because that takes away the originality

Since that day i fell in love in Frida Kahlo and everything that reminded about her ever. My favourite artist. Her story to me is an inspiration. Her suffering polio age 6 to the crash in 1925 (had to do research for an art class) that left her barren and in hospital. The way she portrays that is perfectly shown here.
But even via this video I learnt things I didn’t see during art class. Like the connection between the “two Fridas” and the fact she also put her mental health in her portraits as well as her physical condition.

I actually did an assignment that I do a replication of the painting I choose whether by details of one painting or do it in the art style of another Artist. One of my classmates suggested me the Frida Kahlo one with the human head on a deer that was hit with multiple arrows. It was a joke at first, but I decided to do it in a weird Picasso-like artstyle. I was probably the only one who did this type of replication in the Art class. My art teacher took a photo of it as well, and I felt happy and honored. I think we should pay attention to Frida and her art more. They have so much emotion when given context.

While mine and Frida’s culture may say that Frida is a shame to Mexico; she is my role model. Frida is the epitome of what it means to be a strong Mexican woman

Frida didn't start just dating him, she saw Him at her school at a very young age and he was painting a mural, she had said and declared that she would marry him no matter what 1 day. And that day came sooner than what she expected. She had lived a very hard life and even at the end when her and Diego we're no longer together they were still in love with each other even after she died.

Learned about her work in my private catholic school education in the 90s. Art, writing and many of things I learned during my private school education, hopefully do not become censored in the American education system.
