Saw one of the reviews of the MG4 yesterday and damn that car charges fast. It peaked at 140 around 4% charge and stayed as far as i could read over 100kW until after 60%. They spendt 37 minutes from 4-90% in 2 degrees wet outside.

Comparing the ZS EV and Niro against the small battery Ioniq 5 would be interesting. The price is pretty comparable (at least in my market) as my decision was between ZS EV and 58kWh Ioniq 5.

Exactly the same as my experience in the UK Speed falls off a cliff when you get to 80%. Very impressed with charging speed .

Wow, the ZS is shaping to be the king of the value priced EVs.
Thanks for the ever so helpful content.

More riveting than the World Cup, that's for sure.

Maybe the question is how well is the battery managed. You would not want ultra fast charging if it would gradually damage your battery. So it's very difficult to compare just charging speeds. The slightly slower might be sometimes better in the long run

Interestung. ZS EV has higher consumption than Niro EV, so kilometers added they might have very similar.

In these charge comparisions it would be very interesting also to see km/hour given for a standarised car speed(90km/h?)

With this price Good performance from MG ZS, looking forward to your MG4 test.
Rumour has it that the Niro and Kona have not been upgraded as they are planning a similarly sized E-GMP based car for 2024.

I am very curious what the max cell voltage was in ZS. Min cell voltage was 4.18 at 57kW before it throttled down and slow charged to 4.2V.
Cars can charge past 4.2V to as high as 4.4V but every 0.1V above 4.2V halves cycle life, and every 0.1V below it doubles cycle life.
A lot of these cars charge to 4.2V, so when you say 68/72 kWh usable, that higher energy does not seem to be based on charging to 4.2V. If it can achieve 72kWh, they are sacrificing cycle life to increase the energy density by charging to higher voltage. That goes for the Niro, because it also charges to 4.2V and supposedly has 4kWh more capacity it "could" store by destroying its cells.
I would like to see how long these batteries last. Would love if someone could defend the high cell voltage charging and the nonsensical capacity buffer. The only way I could see this working well is if there were 4.4V lithium cells in the EVs and they were charging only to 4.2V

Agree, and that is why lot of Chinese car and so as Tesla looking and mostly optimise to 80% charge for fast charging. The high voltage high current charge is questionable to battery longevity. I am curious the degration on EQS over span of 5 years. Or if the pack can survive 5 year of heavy usage. But Mercede might designing the eqs as garage queen in mind. Who knows

Max voltage is dependent on the chemistry. Also most likely only very slow charging up there.

Low charging for niro and Kona but there is very low battery degradation for this two cars
