I didn't notice my camera was so misaligned when I was recording 😭 I promise I don't live on a dangerous incline
it's okay we know it only gets a little harder at 68
lmfaoooooo
It adds an aura of tension to the shelves
@@ViviousCircle🤣
Lol I literally didn't notice the entire video 😅
What’s happening to Rainbow High genuinely breaks my heart. I wore black this weekend in mourning.
This year's Birthday Wishes Barbie looks like she's having an existential crisis about turning 30.
Try 40
At least she's not a blond and a Millie face doll.
Stahwp 😭She's daydrunk before her big party and will become uncomfortably sad while giving a speech
I like her but your right she reminds me about 13 going on 30 movie
rainbow high is the biggest tragedy in the doll community since mhg2
Fact
Big loss for restylers specially
Because of one gimmick line? Barbie has done plenty, relax 🙄
Fact
This!!
I am simultaneously sad and relived that we may be at the end of the doll renaissance. Sad, because I love beautiful dolls, glad because my wallet has taken such a hit and I am drowning in dolls. A break to regroup, find more display space and rebuild my discretionary spending will be a welcome change ( I have little self control with dolls, so the logical answer of 'just buy less dolls' is a no go). But I know I will regret my words if we hit another doll famine
I feel the same way. I started collecting 3 years ago, and 2023 was my heaviest doll purchasing year. I collected some of almost every major current line, plus some older Barbies. I am now out of money and space, and I need to sell some dolls. So, less temptation would be welcome for a while. Not a total drought, but not a flood.
Exactly my thoughts at the moment. I have more dolls than I know what to do with and it's been a struggle to keep up lately even when I'm only buying my faves. :') I need to save money for more shelves!!
It's a shame MGA just freaking flooded the market like crazy. If they didn't do that, maybe things wouldn't have changed, they wouldn't have to downgrade in the future. Them pumping out so many dolls for LOL and Rainbow High in such a short amount of time was never sustainable. IDK who the heck decided they needed to do that but I don't like them very much ha ha. It probably also pushed their doll designers to their limits.
Same. I had similar feelings in the late 2010s, after MH and EAH stopped their main production. Doll famines are not fun, but the utter joy of finding a new doll that's just perfect for you as the famine ends is priceless.
This lol
Mermaid gown? On a collector doll? Groundbreaking
Comments you can hear
daring today arent we
Honestly iconic that Rainbow High would convince me to collect dolls and then immediately start degrading 😅
Me too 😅 started with pacific coast and now we're here
Same. I started with Shadow High series 1.
I suppose the downgrade was not immediate at that point, but it is so confusing and heartbreaking that the brand that got me to start collecting dolls would take such a nose dive.
I was looking forward to the fashion packs and am so disappointed and confused.
I still have a shread of hope that maybe they will have budget lines and collector lines - like, the runway collection dolls look great and have second outfits. Hopefully. 😢
If anyone was curious it was the Storm Twins that got me, obsessed with anything oil slick (and they had purple freckles?? So cute)
@@satousays I think I was a bit miffed when SH series 2 came out with no second outfit (and less accessories then RH Series 5) & felt like they all had a makeup palate and nothing specific to their “majors”. (And with this last shadow line the lipstick is bad on almost every single one I see in stores.) BUT that being said it feels like they’re constantly trying new things and maybe these fashion packs are meant to be “budget” friendly and we can hope that it won’t effect mainline dolls??
Same here and now I'm probably going to sell them all because it's just... Ugh
I wish they give the same effort for Clawdeen as they did for Venus when can she have textured hair 😭😭😭
Clawdeen has over 10 dolls now, but still no textured hair. Come on Mattel, do it already.
The point about the new LOL Tweens not having that instant “this is what she is about” energy finally made it click for me why I haven’t been interested in any of the newer LOL OMGs either. The earlier dolls had dedicated concepts (“this one is a DJ”, “this one is a skater”, “this one is Lady Gaga”) but most of the new ones are just… esthetically pleasing pastel colors without a specific concept.
With the exception of Wildflower and Jams, of course. Right? RIGHT????
Wildflower and Jams are great dolls. I only have Jams so far but I will add wildflower to my collection too. I hope omgs will not go downhill. It would be really a doll disaster.
The Lol Surprise Haribo Tweens Holly Happy is a work of art imo! I adore candy-themed dolls. She’s perfection ❤️🍭🩷🍬
@@texbex1468Omg yesss!!! I just got her and shes one of my favs
I absolutely adore Venus and I can't wait to see her on shelves
yes i wanna see more pants and skirts so bad! specifically not pleather and/or high waisted skirts as well please... i do feel like the doll's bodies were designed with high-waisted bottoms in mind though because the dolls themselves have a waist that's pretty high up. so i don't know if they'll ever really move away from it. but at least more diversity in the types of bottoms would still do a lot.
YES we need doll cargos
The Rainbow High situation breaks my heart. I JUST got into dolls this year, and already two of my favorite brands are going massively downhill in quality. Oh well, it’ll save me money. Other lines exist.
Same issue with me. When they switched from second outfits to just little accessories, I had a bad feeling. Oh well. I'll go my best to snag some old favorites and look at other doll lines.
Actually the upcoming years is probably the best time to get into RH just by virtue of the second hand market being at the cheapest it'll ever be before the nostalgia cycle kicks in and NIB Poppy dolls are being sold for 200 dollars
I had this happen when I started getting into MH a few monthS before MH g2 took over 🥲
I absolutely loved RainbowHigh from it’s beginning…what a f**king SHAME
Re: your thoughts at the beginning on your part in consumerism, I am a doll enthusiast but not really a collector since I don't have the space or money to own a bunch of dolls. I definitely see these videos as more of talking about design elements and the artistic merits of certain dolls over suggesting people buy them. I have never felt sad or like I was missing out when watching these, personally
I think its very valid and admirable of you to be aware of your role and influence on consumerism, its something we should all be more considerate of in the current state of the world. However, I dont think you should feel guilty or responsible for consumerist behavior because of these videos. Personally your videos discussing new releases are my favourite even if I dont have an interest in buying any dolls. You give good analysis on the dolls as products/character designs, which I feel is an interesting topic regardless if you're a collector or not
I do think the doll market isn’t as good for collectors lately. Venus and the magic mixies pixlings are the only ones I’m considering getting in this video. The pixlings just have really cute faces and I think Venus’s gen 3 redesign is really good overall.
Literally, got my Venus this Saturday and plan on ordering the new dragon and fairy pixlings! Hoping next year the deocra girl dolls deliver on all fronts!
@@sighbatsuof i feel exactly the same! pixlings are killing it and Venus is just spectacular, and the Decora girls i wanna get as soon as they drop 🤩
I am so SO excited to get the new Venus when she comes out, I can’t wait
@@sighbatsuwhere is everyone getting venus at? Paulmart?
@@Ducky_Lucky I got her when she was on Paulmart yes.
the rainbow high thing puts me in so much despair i had to actually tell a friend about it
I can't watch another dollline rot like this, not again, someone please just take them out back and free them of this misery, they're being dragged back to their poopy slime roots
The Tweens falling off so suddenly broke my heart. I thought that Suprise Swap was fine, albeit dissapointing, and it was just a gimmic line, nothing special from the LOL brand...But Series 5 is so bad. The designs cannot save them from the lack of stands and articulate wrists. Flora was especially dissapointing because her zodiac concept is so unique but the designers just couldn't do anything cool with it. I feel sorry for them because I can tell they had ideas that could've worked extremely well but just didn't come to fruition.
It's definitely a budget thing cause Suprise Swap was an expensive venture that proved to be a flop but it was like whiplash when I saw the new series. I hope that this is a one time thing but I doubt it.
(Also Ellie Fly, the blue one, is based on the pet of the infamous Rainbow Raver but not the tot herself. You know if the designers had a higher budget we could've gotten a kick ass raver doll, but unfortunately that didn't happen. At least I got Emma Emo to fill that void.)
If I may comment, I bought the Surprise Swap Winnie for $30, which I felt was astronomical, but I really wanted that pink lemonade color scheme and brown eyes. She proved to be my most disappointing doll purchase in terms of quality control, as she has such thinly rooted hair that she's got bald spots. I'm still salty about it. Maybe if MGA paid better attention to quality control, they would have made better sales. It matters. A lot.
@@linphillips8331 I actually heard this complaint from another buyer who also bought Winnie. They noted that her hair rooting was quite poor.
Also I agree. 30 dollars is expensive for a Tween, but I wouldn't have minded that if they came with second outfits, but they didn't unfortunately. I'd honestly pay an extra 5 dollars just to have second outfits for the Suprise Swap tweens ngl.
I can’t even remember which tween swap I bought. I was SO disappointed, I sent it immediately to the thrift shop.
When I opened the box and the stand was nowhere to be seen I was so mad! Same with the wrist articulation. I have seen the argument of removing the wrist articulation for the safety of children, which is understandable. But as a consumer I feel that if you take away key features, then the price needs to reflect those downgrades.
(Don’t know why ppl are overlooking) The Lol Surprise Haribo Tweens Holly Happy, who is a work of art imo! I adore candy-themed dolls. She’s perfection ❤️🍭🩷🍬
im def getting a foreboding feeling concerning rainbow high. i feel like if it was either loss of articulation or simpler clothes separately i also wouldnt be happy, but BOTH at once? losing the 2nd outfits was already a blow in my interest although that was understandable to keep costs lower, but this seems like the death knell in my rainbow high collecting
Venus boots make sense to me because they are suppose to look like spraypainted rock or cement , and the pink gradient makes the vines on her boots stand out because pink and green are complementary. That being said all the other times they have used gradient shoes has been lazy.
Its so sad that LOL OMG and RH are fading away. They were the brands that got us back into the doll renaissance and what lit a fire under Mattel’s ass to produce more fun doll lines like monster high. At least we still have Bratz
I’m not even a fan of any of the MGA properties, but seeing LOL OMG and rainbow high fading was so sad, i remember how big they were in 2022
I kinda fell out of love with rainbow high a while ago, back when they got rid of second outfits, but even now seeing what they’re becoming hurts, I’ll miss you rainbow high. On the other hand, monster high is popping off with g3, sooo excited for Venus especially, she’s always been one of my absolute faves. You didn’t mention it in this video but I’m also really looking forward to the hissfits 3 pack next year!
Yayyy, yass or pass returns! I love to watch you judge dolls lmao
Wait OMG THE NEW PIXLINGS
literally the only doll I’m excited for is Venus. idk if it’s release fatigue or what but she’s the only one who makes me feel something other than “…ok”.
As someone who got into collecting Rainbow High dolls because of the articulation and high quality clothing, I’m very sad to see the articulation downgraded. I was already a bit disappointed when they got rid of second outfits so it’s sad to see the things I like about RH slowly being stripped away. I liked most of the dolls in SH series 2 but pretty much all of series 3 bores me and that goes for the newer RH dolls too. It’s sad but I guess the brand just isn’t going to be putting out as many dolls that fit my interests. I’d like to be wrong about that though.
Also I despise the forehead glitter with every fiber of my being. It’s so unnecessary and distracting. I don’t know what I’ll do if they somehow release a doll that I like because if it has forehead glitter I feel like that’s going to be a nightmare to remove without messing up the face.
My hope is that even if they decide to go more budget, they’ll still make occasional releases that are similar to the quality of older series. My favorite dolls were the ones released during Rainbow Vision. I loved the style of the Royal 3 and I feel like if they pushed the alt fashion of Neon shadow further we could get some really cool dolls. Best case scenario they’ll use whatever money they’re saving by making more budget releases to fund occasional more risky and creative releases. Worst case I just won’t be buying any new RH releases.
I'm grappling with the consumerism side of things myself. It's a fun hobby but I don't want to drown in a pile of toys either.
Not me crying with joy of seeing that Venus McFlytrap. Also the Pixlings are eating. I just wish they didn't come with the potions either omg.
I don't know if she was mentioned in a previous video or if she's just not one you were interested in talking about or whatever.... but Holly Happy, the Haribo Goldbears themed LOL Tween is just to die for in my book. She has stripey socks. Her earrings are bags of gummy bears. She has a bucket hat and glasses with little bear ears...
I just ordered her. I’m not a huge Tweens fan (I have around 7 of them), and I’m not a gummy bear fan at all, but the doll looks as adorable and good quality as the best of the former ones.
Today we are here to remember Poppy “Orange Girl” Rowan. Despite MGA being an idiot, she will be remembered fondly for her 3 years of existence. ~In the arms of the angellsssssssss…-😭🪽🪽🦋🍊🍊🍊
RIP orange girl 🍊
When I saw only six dolls for the upcoming line, I knew someone was missing but couldn't place who. RIP Poppy. You were my favorite from the first wave.
I loved her so much I'm gonna c r y.
i understand what you mean about playing a role in consumerism. i think it’s important to share your honest opinions and thoughts about these products. i appreciate the honest critique, mentioning the price, and mentioning the designers / creators. i also appreciate not giving the companies (who lazily profit off of children, designers, and trends without care about how much waste is produced) a free pass when they produce shitty dolls. i think they deserve a dissection lol. no shade to budget dolls, but they all look dollar store. like the point of dollar store dolls is to be cheap and accessible, don’t sell me a doll that’s $30 that is the quality of $5. blatant disrespect to the consumer. most of these look lazy in my opinion.
As far as budget dolls go, the swimsuit RH dolls aren't too bad. If it means a kid whose parents are on a tighter budget can get a cute doll I'm all for it. The slime ones are abominations though and aren't even worth customizing.
I used the potion bottles for my Halloween display. I made swirling potions - painted the bottle tops and used them in my Halloween haunt
that's so cool! i wanna do something like that with mine eventually.
Rainbow high is taking Barbie's direction sadly.
Also 16:00 the America's next top model reference 😍
I actually like the lighting. It complements your pink sweater, color wise. Thanks for posting! You and your content are a good mood booster
idea: you can turn the Magic Mixies bottles into, like, planters for flowers or herbs. like, maybe do a minor paint job to give each their own look and then boom! planter for a flower or herb. Addition: you don't even need to get, like, a real flower and dirt. you could get fake stuff so you don't have to worry about watering the plant
Poppy’s antm elimination is the funniest thing I’ve seen today.
The first time I saw the Rainbow High fashion packs I thought they were off brand packs from the dollar store :I
genuinely i love the direction they went with Venus, she's SO cute. my complaints are more about the shirt just saying NATURE, i feel like they coulda done somethin else there, and the shorts coulda been frayed in some way...but those are nitpicks! oh my god i adore her, i finally got Abbey and now i wait for Venus. even her box art, oh my gosh i'm in love. her little ears, her hair, i can't WAIT...g3 has gotten me into such a collectathon mode.
The Monster High x Off White collab really feels like its trying to coattail off the various Bratz designer collabs we've seen the last couple years; I also really don't like that 'streetwear' designer look of Off White or pretty much all the ones Bratz did. (and that's in quotes because I find it weird how there's this certain 'streetwear' aesthetic that is like a hypebeast supreme guy look and then there's streetwear which is just anything cool and interesting people on the streets could be wearing that encomposses a lot of subcultures. I digress). I feel like someone like Betsey Johnson would've fit Monster High more, would've been way more fun, and interest me, personally. Or take a more serious route and pick like an Alexander Mcqueen (but something from before he died, I've never liked the brand since.) and do some really incredible high fashion doll scale reproductions.
I have just recently decided to go back to collecting RH after a year of intense focus on My Scene and I must say I'm pretty devastated to see that all I'm gonna be doing is completing the waves that have been released up until now. Imagine being completely out of the loop with them, all excited to learn about upcoming releases and finding out that they're over lmao. We really took MGA for granted haven't we. With how scarce and expensive My Scene are getting and RH and LOL fading away, things are looking pretty bleak for me lol. People have been saying that what is happening to RH is a sign of focus shift to Bratz and that we're gonna be getting some real good dolls but I find it hard to be optimistic. With how the economy is rn toning down RH is probably just a way to stop shareholders from panicking once the next financial report comes out. Good to see you back! ❤
Yeah, Bratz does give me a bit of hope. The leaked Always Bratz dolls have full articulation and genuinely great outfits. They don’t have second outfits sadly, but other than that, they look great
As far as I know, MGA doesn’t have shareholders: it’s a privately held company. Some have suggested that as the reason they are able to take more risks and not take as much profit as Mattel. However, they still want to make money, and I imagine Isaac Larian might want to retire some day, and maybe even sell or get money out of the company, in which case he needs it to be financially healthy.
I will also forever maintain that Chewlian genuinely looks disgusting. What is that creature? Why does it have that horrific grin? So unnerving😭
it's cute in it's creepy way
The mammal-fication of every pet in G3 is the only thing I have strong negative feelings about regarding it. WHY? Kids like things that aren't dogs and cats too
I feel very let down by MGA's recent decision-making, but I've basically got all the dolls I've pined for. As I won't spend money on a doll that does nothing for me, I guess I'll be saving a lot of money. 🤷🏼♀️
They should start selling the magic mixies dolls without the bottle as a choice, and just see what would happen. There really is a market for quality pixie / fairy dolls!
It would be great. I can't stand that potion bottle. It is a waste of useless plastic for me. It has put me off buying one.
Everyone's talking about RH but for me, it's OMG and the tweens that got me tbh. OMG was such a comfort line tbh. Ik that they eventually have to close OMG but I'm hoping that they'd go out in a bang tbh...OMG are mothers they deserve it
They are my favorite too. I think they are superior: affordable price, fully detailed and unique styles.
I come to these videos to learn, I find them incredibly informative and useful for someone who wants to keep up with doll releases. 😊 also your opinions are interesting! You don’t have to be concerned, the content you’re putting out is great ❤️
rainbow high was my favorite brand because of how amazing the dolls looked, the full articulation, and the amazing outfits. im really disappointed to see the direction its going in
livinggg for Venus she ATE
I had a feeling the high quality seen in Rainbow High weren't going to last after MGA flooded the market last year. :/ It was fun while it lasted.
i just want to say that you have reignited my passion for fashion dolls, doll customizing, and collecting in general and you’ve really helped me reconnect with the little kid i used to be who wasn’t afraid to like what they liked. thank you for that! our opinions aren’t the same all the time, though we do have pretty similar ones most of the time, and truthfully i don’t think i’ve ever felt like you’re advertising these companies. you’re critical but clearly with thought and when you praise something i don’t automatically feel the need to jump and buy anything. if anything you’ve helped me not give in to overpriced dolls and to think more critically about what i really want.
sorry this is wordy, i hope my sentiment still comes across because i know how it feels to get in your own head for too long
The way I GASPED when you showed the two new pixlings, they're so beautiful it's unreal. I've always loved dolls but I'm not a doll collector, but something about these girls cracks that barrier for me, I don't know if it's the extremely well-done fantasy elements or what, I just really want them all.
i can't recommend the Pixlings highly enough, i have 3 of them rn and they just make me so happy 😭 they're so cute and detailed, and also their hair is really good at not getting messy, like even when i take them around and their hair gets messed up i can literally shape it back into place with my fingers within seconds. such good comfort dolls and so so pretty to boot.
Yeah the fantasy elements and face designs are really great. They do come in big packaging, so if you know any kids in your life just give it to them.
Completely agree about Venus. She will be joining my small collection of g3's and Cave Club on my shelf. ALSO, can we please talk about your beautiful sweater? Such a lovely shade of pink, and the fit is perfect.
I hope with the Venus redesign that her clothes are made with eco friendly fabrics or biodegradable in some way and that she doesn’t get sidelined. Make her a less apathetic Daria, she can get preachy and eye rolly at things, it isn’t just save the planet she’s anti conformity, she fights for human, monster, and plant rights, she is against racism and sexism, and she walks to school because it saves gas. She also should also be close to Draculaura but also butt heads with her because plants have feelings too so they argue who is better a vegetarian or an omnivore.
I never saw your videos about new releases as advertisements, it's just always interesting to see what new stuff is out, even if i don't collect the dolls myself and don't intend to buy anything
I am getting worried for LOL omg, they've been my main collection for a while, and I can feel the quality slipping. There are fewer dolls to pick from in stores because of poor quality control. I don't mind the playlet focused dolls, but it would be nice if they were all as good concept wise as the watermelon one. I do love the tweens and this is the first round of them that they feel less unique in concept, like some of them are redesigns of ones that we have.
I guess for LOL OMG & Rainbow High, there might be a change of management or people who came out with the changes. I used to work in a company and the product was doing well. But when new management & people came in, of course they wanted to voice their opinions and make changes (Just so it makes it seem they were being 'innovative' and contributory). I was like "Why change something that isnt' broken?" but we didn't have a choice and had to roll with it.
I just wanna say that the lighting today is so cute🙏🏽 the room has such a nice pink glow that’s giving doll connoisseur stuck in their pretty pink castle
It is really sad to see what is happening to RH and how they absolutely did not learn from other doll rebrands. MH on the other hand really seemed to listen to criticism and toned down the cuteness on most of the refresh and new signature dolls and started to use some alternative fashion influences, and they seem to have stopped using poly hair thank goodness. The Pixlings are absolutely killing it, I hope they have a nice long run and don't run out of ideas too quickly. It does feel like the "doll renaissance" is ending, but thankfully 2 out of the 3 brands I love seem to have a bright future.
I feel like once Mattel rebooted Monster High, MGA just gave up for some reason? Maybe they realize they’ll never compete with such a mega brand and are going for a younger audience? It’s a bit sad, Rainbow High is what got me back into Doll Collecting after not collecting for several years! Now I find myself less and less excited with each new release and not buying as many. Meanwhile I feel like Monster High has been killing it with this reboot! I’ve been loving (most) redesigns of my favorite characters! I’m always excited for which character will get the G3 redesign!
I mentioned this in another video, but confirming here that the direction of RH is in line with what I learned from a partner presentation with MGA at my job (we're a licensee) a few months back, which is that they're aiming to marketing to moms/kids, and it looks like they are doing that in making more budget dolls (appeals to moms) and picking characters kids seem to prefer/focusing back on the original six (minus Poppy) (appealing to children). But it looks like they're applying this to all their fashion doll lines too.
Did they ever say any reason as to why? Because they should have learned not to make 2015 bratz mistake..
@@blazinbratzy3592 It was a bit ago so I don't quite remember, but I actually took notes, and here's what I bulleted from what they said about RH:
- “Research tells us that sales should be stronger” - their quote. They weren't specific on what research exactly. Sounded like a company just wanting more profits to me.
- Expanding to younger demo
- Optimize pricing for moms - cheapening? (that was me questioning that first remark regarding moms, seems accurate)
- Roblox game popular (including this because I think that confirmed their strategy to focus on kids/moms, I'm assuming that game is largely played by kids)
Three fundamental changes to marketing
- No more school rivalries, focusing on friendship
- Diversity, Inclusivity, Friendship
- Embrace Color (again) - “lost their way in 2022”. Kids Love Rainbow Colors
- Mom Brand Campaign - not sure where they're going with this still
- Core 7 girls - Original 6+Amaya (they mentioned the runway line having all 7, which wasn't out yet then)
@@blazinbratzy3592I can only think of 2 reasons. 1. Rainbow High has not been making as much money as it used to, so lowering the budget and making it for younger kids might bring in more money. 2. The more more hopeful one, is that they're making a new more mature doll line that will fill the same void as RH, but RH was turned into a younger demographic line because of its bright colors.
@@helloill672 I think they are banking on bratz being the more mature, adult collector focused line
This makes sense as a doll living mom of a doll loving kid but not as an adult collector. Especially during the pandemic when kids where home parents and kids became flooded with dolls, for something new to come in to the house it needs to be a) super affordable or b) super special and I know my kid will get lots of play from it. I don’t want to start a new line of dolls either because for a kids room it takes up too much space, but I would be inclined to try a new line if it was super cheap. Luckily my 6 year old daughter is quite satisfied with Barbie (mostly vintage stuff from eBay specifically for her interests like Happy Family Midge, Kelly and Baby stuff), but she also wants the Disney ILY Barbie sized doll which I think are really well executed.
I'm in love with Venus! I already really liked her G1 look, but this feels elevated yet realistic? Like, I know who she is as a person by looking at her. So much detail, love it 😍 I hope they make her canon queer in the series and that we actually see her (I'm heartbroken about how little they have done with Ghoulia despite giving her a doll in the first release)
The 80s inspired fashion in mh never made sense to me cause likr the entire brand is based around late 2000s & early 2010s altarnative fashion, its what made monster high(as in litrealy-thats what inspired sanders to make mh) so now seeing the brand throw that away in favor of 80s fashion makes no sense-thats like bratz sundally having their dolls dress up in only 70s fashion and completly throwing away the y2k inspiration
I do also wanna say-im so tired of the howliday dolls only doing christmas & valetine 😭 like we now have three christmas dolls & two valetine dolls yet nothing for any other holiday
Like how are you gonna have a brand called MONSTER high and not make a holiday doll for halloween??
I’m not a doll collector but I love watching these videos. That being said… those Magic Mixies Pixlings, ESPECIALLY the second one you showed, are so insanely cute I may just need to grab them!
I feel like Barbie (some) designers don't know about fashion.
Monster High is really lazy using that ombre paint on the shoes, already overdone and unappealing. 😴
The only interesting thing from MGA is Bratz.
those rainbow high fashion packs look like they're inspired by leftover froot loop milk and that first carlyle barbie looks like she was designed specifically to be a topper for 'thirsty 30' birthday barbie cakes
i do love the mixies pixlings dolls; all of the designs have been super cute so far. they have a touch of that "kawaii blind box bjd figure" aesthetic and it works really well. im most excited for venus mcflytrap, though. looking up more photos of her in different outfits had me drooling. i simply choose not to acknowledge chewlian 😌
i am so blown away with G3 Venus 💚💕
i am SO excited for g3 venus, venus is one of my top dolls from g1 and her g3 design is gorgeous. tweens falling off is so sad to me since i genuinely loved them and collected them more than regular omg's. and i'm also sad to see rainbow high flip the switch like this. while i do think they were running out of ideas for names (all of g3's names were so literal it was annoying imo), i could see them really pushing the limits with accessories and concepts until the most recent shadow high line. i was excited to see more from them, maybe some core refreshes of both rh and sh series 1's. it feels like they may have jumped the shark somewhere along the line and are now trying to circle back to the original younger kid's slime toy demographic despite that failing. i hope to see them come back one day if this really is the end, the tweens too!
unrelated to the topics in the video i guess, but i also really hope the lol omg fierce line comes back one day. saw a prototype i fell in love with and they got cancelled before she reached production i believe. a tragedy.
Love that you're always so articulated, and i actually like your pace with posting. You're a person! I absolutely adore the Mixlings! The themes and colors are eyecandy, and the scale is so cute! I can't wait to get the new ones. But i hate the packaging! One use gimmicks are so wasteful.
I don’t care that much for Monster High Gen 3 dolls, with the exception of Draculaura (she never looks bad, even when the clothes suck), since despite the cool doll skeletons, the fashion is very lacking.
But Venus looks stunning, the outfit is nice and it fits her. My only complaint is that they should have given her a little ecobag, made with actual fabric instead of the plastic one.
The Rainbow High situation is kind of wild. I do think it was time for a change, I personally was kind of bored with them, but uhhhhh, that's not what I meant! T_T. At least there will be some that my daughter can actually play with, and I might get one if the hair is still nice.
babes i just wanted to say, I've always seen you more as a doll critic than like, a doll influencer. Like, not once have you ever encouraged viewers to go out and spend money as far as I'm aware. I'm here to see you talk about cool dolls
That's a shame since I love the soft orange. I think they were going for a strawberry blonde with Poppy Rowan but I'll be honest, whenever I see a Poppy Rowan doll, my first impression was a blonde gal with a monarch butterfly fixation (because apparently that's the only orange animal in existence lol.) So they didn't really sell me on her and I kinda blame the aesthetic?? IDK! It doesn't help they have like a million dolls out now and since I only have so much space and funds, I'd prioritize the dolls that really speak to me. (I still haven't gotten a RH doll yet, because I really do want at least one, but MGA's quality control and my current status of being broke have kept me from doing so yet. I'd focus on snagging one of the Band members, the Target drummer for sure but if I could, basically the entire bands made for Target and Walmart exclusives.)
Also, I never watched it but I heard they made Amaya Raine the main character in the Rainbow High cartoon series. So this is an understandable result (I'm assuming low sales combined with low importance in their cartoon) but it's annoying, especially when they're pushing Amaya as the pink one. I enjoy pink, certain shades are stunning, but I've never been happy that any color was so aggressively marketed to girls and women, like calm down literally every company out there.
Edit: that reminded me, I guess they sold out or stopped selling the 24 inch Amaya Raine doll who had blue hair mixed with rainbow colors which is a shame. I know she went for like 35 bucks one year, or some crazy low price, on Amazon and Target. I was so tempted to get her but talked myself out of it because of space at that time.
I hope that since MGA went so far to kid side with the main original core dolls, that they have another plan for us adults ? Cause different kids are always coming of age where to some, the core dolls are new for them. They put "Storywood " on Scarlett hoodie. I hope theres a plan for us adult collectors.
I really like the lighting in this video, it feels very cozy and makes everything look extra pink :3
7:27 the one on the very right is litrally a scene queen, I LOVE scene dolls and its so rare that i find a doll like that!! hate the price tho 30 dollars!?!?!?!?
The ANTM moment for rainbow high 😭😭😭🤣
Even as a MGA/OMG stan, im only slightly saddened by the coming downfall. My wallet and shelf space will be so much happier for it. No more doll fomo!
Omgs are the main line i collect, i have so many of them at this point that the thought of being able to focus on my favorites indefinitely cause they have no competition is very comforting.
Also, I'll have more money to put towards azones and bjds 🥳
Look listen up...
I know people keep saying how sad they are about the quality drop and stuff of rainbow high but honestly it's for the better. They still have quite the amount of quality but the things they had before were just too much and too unnecessary for playline dolls. Was it nice? Yes.
Collectors loved it. But the play value of the dolls was horrendous. Clothes would rip just by putting them on carefully all beads etc. would fall off even on collector dolls who obviously don't play with them like kids would. Also the dolls were mega heavy because of that and very hard to move and stuff. Not to mention the absurd price of the dolls because of that. Like kids would "collect" monster high back then but no kid can "collect" rainbow high unless they are a mega rich family who lives in a 5 story mansion. And let's be honest.. do doll boots really need to be Fabrik? No no they don't. They bump up the cost like crazy, you can't get as much detail and they are really hard to put on.
Like at the end of the day you need to REALLY think about the play value
* whyyy did they make the normal RH dolls go that way, the junior line is right there! good thing i got the 2 i really wanted, and now i can just buy other's clothes separately (aka ainsly's fit pspspsps)
* poor LOL, girlbossed too close to the sun with their big 'ol eyes.
* barbie hasn't served since the movie, they need more sauce.
* bratz forever diamonds rerun pspspspsps
I know LITERALLY nothing about rainbow high, and the first thing I thought was "wait.... shouldn't there be an orange one?"
im looking forward to a post rainbow high and lol omg world
Carlyle Nuera is like a natural calamity. Whatever he touches, wherever he goes, ruin follows. This person absolutely needs to be given less importance inside Mattel, his dolls range from meh to hideous, and Barbie cannot stand for such low quality designs if she wants to regain momentum.
@chrrycola2717 Also mediocre dolls i guess. That person should step down
i luv ur sweater cammy U look so lovely !!
I'm going to get the Sunny dolls as they come out because she's my queen, but... it's all just very tragic for Rainbow High. I am looking on the bright side though. This will save my wallet some agony and I can catch up on the past dolls that I want but still haven't gotten yet. Same with LOL. Kitty K was such a beautiful doll and her nail art version... I mean is this even still Kitty K at this point? I thought we were getting more Fierce dolls and wanted that Candylicious so bad 😭 but now we got these nail dolls instead??? MGA what is going on??
I'm so excited for Venus McFlytrap. She lowkey has such a lesbian vibe, which is really exciting for me. However, as someone that was planning to start collecting rainbow high soon, I'm really bummed about the direction that the brand seems to be going in. I feel like they're making the same mistake that monster high did, and are getting rid of the qualities that people like the brand for (high quality outfits, creative doll concepts, etc) to save money and market to younger kids.
I'm so sad about the current direction on Rainbow high. The most recent main series line of Rainbow high was so good, I bought three of them (Olivia, Michelle, and of course Victoria). The runway line isn't for me, but I can see a lot of value in it. The last lines of Shadow High and Junior High were similarly not for me, but still had some great, inventive dolls. I have a friend who's more into SH than I am, and she couldn't wait to get her hands on some of the new SH dolls. Colour and Create was maybe a bit gimmicky, but I think the gimmick makes a lot of sense for RH, and I like 2/3 of the base dolls so much they're on my Christmas list. And New Friends gave us something that people have been asking for since the series began! It was really feeling like RH was on a roll... but then we saw pictures of the swimsuit dolls and other upcoming releases. I'm so sad to see the quality and creativity that drew me to Rainbow high, and really to doll collecting in general, be thrown out the window like this. It feels like Rainbow high came crashing down overnight.
I’m liking the new pink doll. I love the Rainbow High clothing (over the dolls themselves) but the new outfits do not impress me. Never cared for LOL OMG or Tweens but I do appreciate the clothing quality (again). I really really wish that Mattel would come out with good fashion packs (like the old Fashion Avenue). I don’t like to buy dolls just for their clothing but I will to get good outfits!
Monster High G3 has been giving me NOTHING and then suddenly they drop Venus, who might be my favorite G3 redesign of all time because. Just wow. The only thing I don't like, though, are her light denim shorts. I'll probably be replacing those with something darker, maybe a plaid skirt.
Don't worry! I never got the impression you were advertising, in fact, I probably wouldn't enjoy watching your content if I felt those vibes. I just get the impression that this is your passion and you like to discuss the dolls, your opinions, knowledge, and information about them more than promote them. If someone becomes interested to buy or start collecting, it's just because that might become a passion for them, too, I think.
"...to Carlyle Nuera"
Good God, the second you uttered that man's name, lightning literally struck down outside my house.
Why didn’t they make Turquoise Barbie referencing Southwest US and possibly traditional turquoise jewelry (if it makes sense)…the Western Fun Nia from late 80’s seems more turquoise than the new doll
I think since you're giving your honest opinion, it's a form of anti-consumerism too. It's like saying "don't just buy something because it's new. Think about the quality of the thing you're buying and whether it's something you're going to actually enjoy for the full life of the product".
The absolute disrespect of replacing Poppy with Amaya. I love Amaya, I really do, but how can you have a rainbow without orange?
My guy I watch your videos bc I can't afford these dolls, I want to follow and excite over dolls through your videos. I can't speak for your other fans, but you don't personally influence me to buy anything or want to contribute to consumerism.
Something that has been annoying the hell out of me for a while now is that all of the special edition mh stuff is done with the g1 models despite us being well into g3 by this point. Maybe its because the g1 models are easier to make clothes for because theyve been around for longer, but from a company as huge as mattel that would sound like a lazy excuse.
It feels like theyre undermining g3 with every special edition release. Like "oh, we know were making new dolls, but dont you want more of the old ones that you remember? For $200?" . If im going to be paying that much for a doll i want her to be unique with the g3 body type diversity. Not the same swaybacked models from 10 years ago
I'm only interested in Venus, but only buying her if she's on sale.
If Poppy is gone, at least replace her with Michelle St. Charles. Only Sunny is the darker skin tone among them.
I just got my 1st Bratz doll ( a Felicia😩😛) and i really just have to say thanks to you and this page for inspiring me to get back into my loce for dolls and heal part of my wounded childhood. before finding this side of youtube i assumed this was something i had to give up forever so thank you again. i havent felt joy like this since my last American Girl doll❤❤❤
Magic mixies deff needs an option without the bottle. I emailed the company and they were like, but that's part of the activity! Bitch I just want a doll, not a bunch of garbage for the landfill
I am someone who has never really bought dolls before, and now that I am an adult with expendable income I finally got into buying a few for myself and I think your videos help me from going overboard. There are a lot of things to consider, like hair, clothing, personal taste, etc and you bring them up and remind me that the urge to own should not overwhelm my logical decision making. Your into to doll collecting and these videos are a great resource I think to keep me in check.
Honestly I'd get one or 2 of the budget dolls just to bodyswap and restyle
Violet especially, because her swimsuit face is stunning
The lol nail salon stuff upset me so bad. not because i think they're bad. the timing just felt like a slap in the face. i was DYING to get candylicious and kitty k's fierce dolls. and they got cancelled. and then shortly after those two are axed, those same characters are used in a budget style look?? it just felt very poorly timed and left a sour taste in my mouth
