Inflation is getting better and has been better in the US overall than in most other first world countries. The country is more stable than under Trump and the world’s other countries respect us more so than under Trump. And crime is actually down overall in the US despite Fox new’s salacious reporting focusing on a few locations.
But to answer your question, I think the main reason he chose to focus on saving democracy instead of how well things are going under his administration, is that Democrats, Independents, and moderate Republicans are his audience for this campaign. Hardcore MAGA will never listen to facts or reason- they are enthralled by a cult of personality and won’t likely be won over. But Democrats, Independents, and moderate Republicans probably understand the importance of democracy and the threat against it and see this issue as the most important reason to vote against Trump in 2024. The more of those people who vote, the better Biden’s chances. I’m assuming future Biden campaign speeches will discuss the success of his administration.
