I know I've said this 100 times before... BUT... older Otis traction elevators are so amazingly quiet!!
I think it's because they didn't have the buzzing relays or something
This is a piece of history right here...
There can't be anything more fun than operating a manually-controlled elevator! Haha.
When I ran the Otis manual in the Sweet Building in 1960 in Fort Lauderdale, I was taught to not try to level looking at the floor and landing, but using a mark on the door and the crossbar on the gate at eye-level...
There used to be a vintage Otis Manually Controlled traction elevator at 78 Main Street in Downtown Northampton, MA. It had the crank to operate the elevator and it was operated by a hired elevator operator until 1999 when they modernized it.
EPIC Elevator y'all this elevator is definitely a treasure and a treat!
these not Self levelling elevators would have been extremely good for trolling
Think about it your get in then you go up say 4 floors or so then as someone is waiting you stop in between floors
I would LOVE THAT
What a gem!!
That's a neat one. Rare find with the manual operation. Looked fast to
I love that lobby!
While these might be rare outside of NYC, they are extremely common in Manhattan.
As service & freight elevators in older warehouses & bigger office buildings, esp. in the Northeast & Mid-west, they are still fairly common.
Very beautiful vintage elevator!
This elevator have the traction the wrapped around the motor until 1911 when they have the motor that let traction go over it and connect to the counter weight
if it is Manually Controlled then how to you call it or get in to it? 0.0
That is a fast elevator but seems more fun to use than a selfleveling one
ok mr dieselducy. ben has been following you for years. where on earth did you get access to this elevator in NY. we need to go.
It was awesome
I like this elevator
nice old one
How is it possible, to level it right that the elevator fits exactly into the landing? I don't know much about this kinda elevators, cuz i am elevator filmer since 12/26/14
Are all the other elevators modernized? Did you need permission to ride this elevator? Where is this elevator?
Does it have some kind of stop so it doesn't crash in to the ground floor? I have never seen an manually controlled elevator which does that, so does everyone have a stop?
+elevatorJach Every elevator has limit switches to prevent them from crashing.
+elevatorJach its called the final limit switch but you don't want to hit it or it will be stuck there and need reset before it can be sued again and they have to call the elevator company.
Thank you!
I remember BENO was surfing an elevator in a high rise residential block in England and the lift jolted to a stop on the bottom because he hit the final limit.
The inspection certificate is located in the basement
By self leveling, you mean this elevator does not line up to the floor automatically?
Correct
Beutiful! LOVE it!
I got lucky here. the security guard said his operator had gone home and asked me if I knew how to use it. when I told him I did he told me not to break it, ride it, and then get out of his building
+DieselDucy In a few hours I'm going to upload the simulated musical elevators at Crescendo TV Towers. The music on the elevators is so beautiful that I have heard some people cried when they were going up the towers.
+DieselDucy he drove that elevator brilliantly.
Good video
I just got a job and going to operate one of these!
+Nick
What building is the elevator you are going to be operating in? Is it a passenger or service/freight elevator?
The outdoor elevator door is new I think
Definitely
I'm guessing this building is undisclosed
15 Maiden Lane
Very fast!
It in soho I think
Neat!
+EvMast Productions The controller is original. It says OTIS on it and is brass. I believe it has a GAL alarm and stop switch. The passenger elevators had innovation but I was not allowed to ride them. I got VERY lucky to ride this as the security guard had to buzz me in as there are turnstiles here.
+DieselDucy this building looks like it's from the 1950's. and the elevator looks like it's from the 1960's.
+technicalboy “techgeek5000” 3000 The car-switch could be as new as the 50s but the elevator's most likely older.
+EvMast Productions What the heck it doesn't look like it's from the 30s at all! It looks like from the 70s earliest.
EvMast Productions What I am trying to say is even though it's very old, it looks and runs like brand new.
