    It was good that you got out cheaply by choosing another brand of SSD drives and it worked. How common is it that you install SSD drives in servers?
    Sorry for the CPU mismatch :-)
    Thanks for the video Morten!

    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse  10 років тому +1

      Hi lundhM
      It is becoming quite normal to put a SSD in a server, Should we just have a small disk for the operating system. Is it actually cheaper to buy a 64GB SSD than 72GB SAS Drive.
      It is not normal that we put "not IBM" disks in. or HP or or... But in this server, data security was not important and they even run with a raid 0
      Yes the CPU thing,, is something of a mess,,, I purchase a version 2, and the CPU sitting in the server was a version 1 DOHHH...

    Hello again, thanks for your great job sharing your knowledge and time!
    I just discovered that our servers (was a black box for us) x3650 M1 type, only have one processor... Xeon E5405, 2.00 GHz, how important, talking about performance, is to add a second processor or replace the actual one (if any option ever exists)? The server is a Linux 2.6 system, only dedicated to run one application, like a database, for part sales and warehouse system. We just replaced the 2 GB RAM for 32GB RAM, start testing performance...

    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse  8 років тому +1

      HI
      Yes you can replace one or both CPU's. and if it is running a E54xx it shout be good on the hole series. Be sure to update the firmware to latest version,,first.
      And if you get a second CPU, make sure you get the VRM and heatsink for it as well.
      39Y7298 IBM VRM For IBM X Series 3650 : amzn.to/2bnKTdp
      40K7438 IBM Xeon Heatsink X3650 : amzn.to/2bl0FsM
      and for CPU's the Intel Xeon E5450 is a good chose : amzn.to/2bl1sK9
      Better prices can be found,, good hunting :-)

      Hi +Maurice James
      Well now you can make as many Virtuel machines that you memory can handel (You want a bit more)
      Look in to this www.turnkeylinux.org/lampstack
      You can install the "
      304MB VM" on you new VM-ware host.
      I am not a linux genius, but know that this is free and a very good way to go.

    Thank you for walking your viewers through your videos. It's really beneficial for your viewers to go through the experience of working with this equipment with as minimal edits as possible so, THANK YOU!
    I want to build my first data center cabinet with a couple IBM X3650 M? servers and the M1s have an appealing price however I'm a gadget geek who likes newer stuff.
    I would like to use this mini datacenter to setup a whole bunch of servers, all virtualized for a bunch of different purposes, all educational, of course.
    If my budget was $1500 Cdn, what server IBM X3650 M model would you recommend I buy?
    I need to run many virtual servers simultaneously, databases, webpages, app development, one or 2 gaming servers (minecraft server) with the expectation that I could have around 200 users connecting to some or all of the services on each of those servers and any given time.

    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse  8 років тому +2

      Hi +Tom Gwozdz
      I'd recommend you to get the IBM/Lenovo x3650 M1 with two quad cores,,,over 2,5Ghz and 24Gb of RAM or more. And put the rest of the money back in your pocket,, for when you wanna play with the next model.
      Thank you for watching! :-)

    Hello,
    Can you pretty please do a noise comparison video between the servers that you have? I'm most interested in ibm x3650 m2, m3, m4 and hp dl380 g5,6,7. I've searched the whole internet for something like this but can't find anything that would give me the information that i'm looking for. You could use your smart phone and an app to measure the db level at start up and idle state of the servers. I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    George

    I'm sorry, I wrote wrong.
    In the vSphere Client screen, when you adding Ssd storage "Non-SSD" seemed to be. ?
    Is this a problem? So, Ssd Trim support for VMware does it off?
    I think. it should appear as drive type SSD for trim support.

    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse  8 років тому +1

      Hi +Cemal Balkis

      Hi +PixelSlayer 1
      All the servers in that rack is grounded and the Rack is grounded, this server is still grounded through the rack and the other servers. and i do also touch the metal casing of the server,, the grounding is not that important, as long as i am not able to build up a charge compared to the server.
      Had this server been on a table with out any grounding, i would still unplug it,,much bigger chance of errors on interchangeable parts with power on, than from static electricity. But always touch metal before touching the electronics.

    Hello Morten. How can we get this server to run Memory at 1333 MHz speed? We have tested both DDR3-10600 and DDR3-12800 modules. Corresponding to the BIOS summary the server always runs only at 1066 MHz. We got 1 CPU and plugged only 2 modules per Channel. The installation sequence from the manual was used.

      Hi s0lution
      We are talking the x3650 M4 I assume.
      The two smallest CPU's in the Intel Xeon E5-2600 V1 series will only do a FSB of 1066MHz,,, But even the E5-2620 is up at 1333MHz.
      There is also a places in bios to tell the server to run slower FSB.

    Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I have been struggling to download the correct VMware. Can you send me the correct name of the OS I should download because from your video I cannot see properly the full name. Is there a possibility that you can upload the OS somewhere so that I can download it.

      I would take the memory out and distribute it evenly,, according to the plan on the lid of the server.

      Hi 666karamba
      It is not a critical server,, this is a test server to deployment of software packages and the discs are set up in a RAID0 so there are no safety at all. The system owner is aware of the danger.
      But is there any particular reason why that it is a poor choice of discs??
      The Server and the Rack's are thoroughly grounded. I make sure to touch the server's metal, to remove any static build-up´s in me. And the air in the data center is under control so it does not become too dry and tends to static shock. Sometimes I also use a grounded bracelet.
