I just watched a quick video from my Sketchup class then ran across yours which really made me understand much better what this tool can do! Thank you!
In V2 of SUbD the corner vertices on the boundary will be creased by default - as it should have been. It's clearly the commonly desired result.Great introduction to creases by the way!
Thanks a lot! Love this extension, but it requires a bit of a mindset shift to get it to do what you want (simply due to the way the subdivision calculation works). Any ETA on when V2 is coming out? (I'm sure you get that question ALL the time :) )
Yes, the quad-based workflow is a workflow constraint which is rather unfamiliar in the SketchUp world. So it's not for everyone. It was actually one of my main concerns about releasing the extension, but then again I always make these extensions because I want them myself. (Coming from a background of other modelling packages.) However, I was positively surprised how many picked up the quad workflow and started helping each other out. QFT have been out for years but never picked up traction until SUbD. Now you got other extensions tapping into the workflow, like WrapR. :) I think what helped the adoption was a few good community members that already had quad modelling experience and generously helped in demonstrating workflows. Intending to rework the website at some point with more workflow examples. Version 2 was going to ship this month, January, but I'm out travelling - living at hotel - this month and that has made it somewhat challenging to get everything ready. Most likely it'll bump until next month.
I think it will take off a bit more as more workflow examples and other info gets posted out there. As a complete quad newbie, it's a lot easier to wrap my mind around working with them when I can just watch someone else's work. Aaron Dietzen's Martian headgear video was especially helpful to me. Thanks again for watching - really love your extensions - they're awesome!
i just wonder, why that plugin should be payed, after you buy sketchup itself, and that option SHOULD be built in from the box... i dont think sketchup is worth anything without that kind of plugin, because there are much better alternatives for lower price, and that ability to subdivide, which is the main thing in modelling as it is.
I have using artisan instead, b cause they not free! And i had to choose, and arti.has more tools to edit vertisies and so on.although they are close functionally. Thx Justin.
After I have already watched over 1.000 video tutorials I would say it doesen't matter to see you in the vid. Its nice to see how you look like for a first impression, but thats all. So in the Introduction of every vid its ok. The interesting things are the things you do not what you look like. Keep on with your tutorials!
When I make a cube and then click subd, it doesn't make a sphere for me. The bottom is creased, and no matter what I do I can't 'uncrease' it to make the sphere. The same problem occurs when I try your rectangle example, the edges don't get rounded. Does anyone have any insight as to why this is? I only started using Sketchup recently, so I have the latest version of SubD and I'm using Sketchup Make 2017, if that makes any difference. Edit: Seems I've solved my own problem - using 'copy' seems to be the culprit. For whatever reason it throws everything off and creates 'uncreasable' edges. I'd love to know if anyone has insight into exactly why this is happening, but I'm just happy to have found a solution.
Interesting - is the object you're creating a group or a component? I'm wondering if the issue isn't trying to edit a component for some reason? I'm not really 100% sure on this one...
SubD is brilliant, its super clean and powerfull really worth it, giving sketchup the high end finish it lacks compared to the rest of 3d programs, you can try both free trail to decide and see what tools are best for your.
Both work together well. Artisan is great if working with terrain meshes etc. But SubD creates Quad-faces with are easier to work with then triangulated mesh. Quad-faced meshes tend to be more predictable & you get a smoother result if that's what your after. Sandbox creates triangulated meshes, where's a plugin like Fredo's Toposhaper makes quad mesh terrain, which is much easier to work with. I use Toposhaper to make mesh terrains then Artisan & esp. Vertex Tools to move mesh around for landscaping terrain. I still find SubD tricky to use, which is why I'm watching this video. Headshot insert is cool, as long as it doesn't interfere with seeing what your doing in SU. Just good to be able to follow your cursor etc. But otherwise, nice personal touch, but I think being able to understand what your saying & follow what your doing is more important. I hate those videos where I have to slow it down to 0.25 speed just to see what they're doing. It's like they're more interested in showing off helping, but ya get that. Keep up the good work man.
Great video! I think removing the background music would make it a lot better, I find it difficult to concentrate on what you say with it playing. Thank you :)
this plugin is paid..so do you have an idea to use it for free or crack or something cz i need it so much..or if there is any plugin same but free?? please can you help??!!

It took me a while too, but once I got it figured out, the extension became much more intuitive. Thanks for watching!

You are hardworking, your lessons are useful, I like you
Thank you! 😃
I was searching for a personal tutorial, glad that I found you. Subbed! Thank you
Awesome - glad you liked it!

You saved my life I had to make something that looks organic like Zahl Hadids architecture and you helped me so much
Awesome! Glad I was able to help!
Thanks a lot for this! can understand it better now :)
Glad it helped!
love all your videos....nice to see you....but your videos are great with or without the face...
Lol - thanks for the feedback :)

And I also see this , justin, thanks a lot
Thanks for this knowledge..
Really appreciate this.
👍
I want SubD tool and Vertex tool. How can I download and install it
thank you for the tutorial
Glad you liked it!
Another great video!
Thanks James!
Wow. Fantastic!
😎
do you have the plugin subd for sketchup 2021 full free
Good afternoon! Tell me, can using the program to design tents for boats and if so, which method is better to use?
Tents for boats? Like sails? Maybe one of the methods in this video will help you - ua-cam.com/video/oqq0qYkrpws/v-deo.html - Thanks!
have you tried the plugin sculpt tools? any vids about this one?
No - based on what I'm seeing, that extension hasn't been updated since 2015 - I don't know if it even works...
Good work, I like your tutorials.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you.
