I picked up gentleman with MS that had fallen down in a weed store. Someone at the store helped him by using his phone to order a car going to the VA emergency room. I took him there and helped him inside. He wanted to tip me but he didn’t have very much control over his hands so he asked if I could do it for him and I obliged. He said 20%, I hit 20% which was $7.19. When I get back in the car and finish the ride the tip came through for $6.47, 10% less. They’re playing with the tips in more ways than one and there’s not much we can do simply because of the lack of transparency. We’re in a scenario where we’re forced to trust the untrustworthy.
A trash system will ALWAYS end with trash results. Even more so with trash people at the helm. Good on you for being a solid individual though and helping out a fellow man in need. Terrible that they then extort or pilfer your hard earned compensation. Almost tragic is what these systems treatment of us has become. Keep fighting the good fight though, and NEVER give up!
Drivers have been saying this for a while. They noticed there are no tips when passengers say they left one. The only way we will know for sure is stay in contact with every rider to see if they tipped and if it went through. Uber knows we won’t do this so it will continue to happen until it’s done.
I don’t think they are stealing tips; they just take a while to show. To your point, this could be INSTANT like the rest of their business. Such a good point. More importantly, I’m so happy to see this channel getting the views and attention it has deserved for so long. Great work Levi!
I've tested this with passengers on the Lyft & Uber platform. I remember specifically on Uber I had the customer tip $5, and it showed up at $2.78. I showed the passenger and they were so shocked. Believe us when we say it happens.
Dara knows I am sure. Our rides here are as low as 30 cents a mile on standard rides no surges. Airport rides for 30 - 50 miles at a low 17 dollars, a 20 mile trip is 8 dollars. Here no driver will pick up a short rides so they have to take drives from other areas and make the passenger wait 15-30 min to go 3 miles or less but the driver may have drove 15 miles for pickup. Short rides are 3 bucks but might be 3-10 miles driving in traffic. Some rides they charge passenger 100 bucks and pay driver 13 telling customer fares are higher than normal never passed to driver.. Then they also offer passengers a 30% discount which comes off the drivers pay.
They are doing the same thing in Phoenix Arizona an average trip to be 25 MI for around $13 by the time you take out the gas you might have made $9 6 months ago the 25 me trip paid $22 unfortunately they're making us all cherry pick you spend half the night sitting waiting for that great ride that might be $19 for 25 MI and Lyft in Uber's wasting all that good time that you could be making money for yourself and for them
@@michaelcampbell8032 well riders are about done with Lyft and Uber here. Long long waits and cancels all day long. Uber and Lyft are killing off themselves. Wish investors knew the truth.
So, I think the question is "how would we know" if they are stealing tips? Like everything behind the algo, there is no transparency. So how would we know? And since they've been busted shaving, how hard would it be to write an algo to "steal" or "shave" portions of tips seemingly randomly? All undetected.
Been with Uber since day 1. Uber told the customers no need to tip your driver, it's included in the fare. Not true and they got sued. Door DASH here in DC was caught keeping tips and got fined by the DC government a few years ago.
That’s true! Uber is stealing driver’s’ TIPS. Uber also steal driver’s cancellation fee. Uber also steal driver’s long pick up fee. It’s odd, but it is true. I drove 19 minutes to pick up rider, wait 3 minutes for the rider show up, the trip time is around 4 minutes. I got paid $1.75 base pay Long distance time 3 minutes =$0.45 Long distance lane0.3 mile =$0.29 4 minutes time =$.60 Distance.5mile= $0.47 Total I got paid that trip is: $3.56 For 26 minutes. To drive for Uber, you don’t get pay for the first 10 minutes to pick up rider, and after that you will get pay 15 cents per minute and 95 cents per mile . For that trip Uber should pay me 9 minutes for long pick up time, but Uber only pay 3 minutes. I call Uber ( it long story) Simple is Uber try to steal money from drivers as much as Uber can. Uber operate the business as the communist party way. Not honestly. I think Uber is the looser in the future. Thank you.
I just had a situation where the passenger put in a tip in front of me and it didn't come right away. He was concerned and then put in another tip. It just came in 10 minutes after I left him. As to the late fee, I've seen it happen to where the passenger was I canceled it early and they still got charged. And where I said don't charge the fee and they get charged anyway. 🤷🏾♂️
Because there are drivers like you and passengers like you that think a big corporation wouldn’t do this that is exactly why they do and why they’re able to get away with it
I might start using this as a tactic to get tips. Me: Uber is stealing my tips! Passenger: No way! Me: Try it! Leave me a $5 tip. Passenger: *Leaves tip* Me: *Ends ride* See, no tip! Passenger: Incredible! Uber: 10 minutes later the tip comes through. Me: Cha-ching!
For me I get a tip that comes in the following week from the previous week and I never received it on the following week. Takes an hour on the phone with support to get the missing tip.
At the very least these amp-based gig companies are overcharging the customers to the point where they are effectively taking the tip opportunities away from the drivers. This is a form of tips stealing as far as I am concerned.
I think it’s a flaw in the app coding that was never fixed. I have seen it happen before for years, both as a pax and a driver. That’s why when I have to use a ride I keep cash for the drivers
When it comes to Uber, nothing is a flaw or a coding app. They pried themselves on being a tech company and not a cab company. If you’ve been driving with them for many years, you think they would have recognized this issue and keep letting it happen. Always remember one thing if you’re questioning anything with Uber it’s done on purpose because we know it’s wrong. They are always 10 steps ahead of us knowing this will make your life a lot easier as a driver. It won’t make you feel better but it will at least keep you sane.
Dont know if its true but someone mentioned that when riders tip based on a percentage of the total ride cost, Uber sometimes takes a portion of that tip and only gives the driver a percentage according to the upfront fare they accepted.
I agree mostly with you , I say mostly because this no tip shows up to me when I had customers tip in front if me. I’ve had customers ask me to show them and I use customer phone to do it. This is in California. I’ve also added up my yearly earnings and Uber states I made more than I actually earned which they claim some of it for insurance and the rest just seems to be a ghost earning.
I've noticed that sometimes I'll get three tips in a row later in my driving shift, like they were in the ether until some sort of refresh then they came through. I also am a rider a lot, and I tip while I'm still in the car, when I do this rating the driver is not yet an option. This is a total theory, but I don't think those tips go through because I don't rate the driver in that moment. When I have to go back into the app, and it asks me to rate my last driver, I will sometimes get a thank you for the tip I left during the ride, after I rate the driver.
That's happened to me too a few times. I remember one night about a year ago that I wasn't getting any tips, and then all of a sudden like 10 came in all at once.
@@tipyouintheapp A few drivers commented on my videos back then telling me that I had no proof of theft, therefore I wasn't being honest. I hope you guys keep putting pressure on these apps/agencies to tell the TRUTH, brotha! We still have people that doubt what we're saying.

Yes uber stealing tips customer tips 10 dollars after dropping off she adds a nether 10 dollars and I see 👀 and she wanted to see if i received they add 1 dollar so i received 11 not 20 and customer said that is a pullshit i am sorry for you guys and these is going on allat to me
I am a driver. I’ve had 25,000 customers. And yes, many times I’ve had customers tell me they were going to be tipping me on the app and yes, I have had customer sitting in my backseat. Tipping me what shows up on my end Zero. Is it OK to hold tips for 2 to 3 days or 2 to 3 weeks so they can build up their stock market value?
We need a NEW LAW; -The amount PAID BY the rider and PAID TO the driver are on screen for the whole duration of the trip for BOTH rider AND driver on each person's phone, any tip given is shown INSTANTLY. -Uber and lyft can ONLY collect ONE $5 FEE no matter what. No more sliding scale where Uber STEALS 50% to 80% of the driver's money.
The tip doesn't show up until it gets processed and that can take time. It's not a huge priority to process, so may take some time. Stealing tips would END Uber and jail time. That's an incredibly stupid thing to attempt and easy to prove.
Idk because i got people tipping me soon as they get out and i received it within seconds of them walking out of the car (on the lyft platform). And yes i have had many times heard the "I'll tip you in the app" and never got a tip. I also seen a dip in my tips in the last year and a half so theres that too.
I’m in the Atlanta area I have done this with some customers and they take some of the tips. Also last year I was receiving 1.00 tips or I’ll get tips from 2 or 3 weeks later.
I am in Harrisburg Uber does this to me. Uber does this nation wide. Why do you think Uber drivers have been protesting ? Its our pay too. Taking 55 percent of fares or more in some cases.
Man it's been happening for years now. Many occasions where the rider puts the tip while in the car but it never show on my end. Or sometimes you see tip amounts that make you go hmmmm.🤔 But there are times when you get all your $20 or $10 tip amount. It's insane what goes on behind the scene.
I've had a few passengers who said they would tip me after the ride, and we waited together to see, and in some cases, I didn't see their tip until hours later or days later.
I think it's very simple. Since they own and control the app and they're not at all as transparent as they should be. It seems to me that it's very possible that they are writing it into the algorithm to go ahead and take maybe 10% or 20% of the tips from each Ryder without them knowing it cuz it was just as soon as we can't know for sure if the driver I'm sorry if the Ryder has tempt us we just probably assume that we didn't get a tip.
If a company who used to take 25% of the fare now takes 50 to 70% percent of the fair no I don’t find it all that they may dip into other things like surges and everything else
I also know other drivers that have said the person said they were going to tip them never got one dime. I know a customer that tipped from the backseat in Utah his driver $10 not one dime showed up on the drivers app. It definitely woke him up and he said from now on I’m only giving cashto the driver
I drove a father and son to Disneyland. He said I tipped you $25 in the app. He got out and I looked at my ride and I received $14.80. Yes they steal. This is why we all need to stop driving for these criminals.
I don't think Uber is intentionally stealing tips. I do think that they sometimes include the tip as part of the upfront fare on reserved trips and food deliveries which is wrong. Some people think they are shaving which could be true. The problem with the situation is that Uber doesn't care or appreciate their drivers who they should see as assets not liabilities.
Listen I also believe that because it's a revenue stream that we don't have any visibility on before Uber and Lyft do that it's a it's a bit too tempting for an entity like that who has to simply be trusted with the tip money money in order to distribute it to the driver. Any person that's worked in a restaurant or a bar who has to account for all their money and all their tips is either sitting in the office with the manager while they count everything. But sometimes the store takes all the revenue earned in the night including your tips they jive everything that they should be getting for the product sold and then they give you the rest. When you exhibit and force that level of control the restaurant or in this case lift an Uber can very easily manipulate the money and take the tips or a portion of the tips without you being able to account for anything. Sorry for the typos typos typos typos
No way to know for sure, but yeah, easily something that real journalism could identify easily. I still think it's a combo of passengers forgetting/lying, the time it takes to go through the system, and super high fares that aren't being passed along making the passengers think that the driver is already getting a huge payday.
I've done 11,600 rides in 3.5 years in a 20 minute market (small) I got to know these riders. Absolutely what the rider tips (at times) is NOT what hits the driver. For what ever reason. The tip will hit the driver phone in 15 seconds or less. When it dont it never does. The whole tip disappears about 30% of the time. Guaranteed !! Then part of the tip disappears. I have a picture of the riders phone side by side with my phone and rider tipped $15.72 and it hit my phone 3 seconds later and it was $5.72. 10 doller....whole number disappeared. IT IS WHAT HAPPENS !!! You might notice a RASH $3.28 tips (+ or - a few cents) or $6.23 tips....those are 5 and 10 doller tips after something happens to about 35%......That is what they do !!
It is malicious and fraudulent I drive with Uber in Austin and than k in Florida as well and they have been stealing my tips for over a yr now! I created a post on it on facebook. It’s extremely well worded. Please share it!
Even when uber delivers your tip, pronto or even delayed, the will reduce your rate per mile for the next trip. Watch how the service fee baloons immediately after you receive a nice tip. They make money and they keep you on the road longer (that's why the want you to set a "goal").
Greet content. I really appreciate your balanced observation and that you're at least willing to consider this is a thing. Nevertheless, as a driver on the food delivery vertical, I feel there has to be something fishy going on with the app famously only showing a tip up $8 dollars on the offer badge. Then they send you a message an hour later pretending customer increased the tip. That's flagrantly dishonest and a very good evidence to support the argument that they're pulling other skullduggery.......
The same reason Uber takes 50 to 80% of the fair now rather than 25%. Do you think they’re not gonna skim something else besides all of the surges and everything else?
Made $73,000 in one year. company takes $23,000 and whatever else they may have skimmed. Guess who pays the full amount of taxes on this? The Driver…..
I tip drivers every time. But very seldom do I receive a 'thank you' in the app from the driver. So I've wondered if the tips are actually reaching the drivers.
every time i get a tip i always hit the 'thank you' button instantly often, when a rider says "ill send you a tip in the app" i dont get a tip did the rider change their mind? or did uber steal it?
Levi go and read what Dara wrote in the IPO. It states that we expect drivers won't be happy in the future because we plan on paying less and incentivizing less. They wrote into the IPO! Evert driver needs to read it for themselves. Make a video about it.

And yes i have had many times heard the "I'll tip you in the app" and never got a tip. I also seen a dip in my tips in the last year and a half so theres that too.
I don't know either. We need an investigative journalist.
Taking 55 percent of fares or more in some cases.
uber takes 60-70% in dallas,texas
@@skyhawaii6831 Totally believe it.
The fact that Dara K issued a statement said a fix is in place means that they were in Fact stealing tips. Enough said!
Good point.
They do take the tip
Man it's been happening for years now. Many occasions where the rider puts the tip while in the car but it never show on my end. Or sometimes you see tip amounts that make you go hmmmm.🤔 But there are times when you get all your $20 or $10 tip amount.
It's insane what goes on behind the scene.
Do restaurants keep the tips when you pay at the register with a credit card or debit card? Are they gaining interest during that time lol
They're stealing no questions. The Justice department needs to step in and look into this
I think you're in the majority with this perspective.
Hey Levi where do you drive what city?
Syracuse New York
Syracuse
Daily I notice that tips come into my account hours after I have signed off my app.
I assume that my rider forgot to tip.
Sometimes tips come in day or so later, especially when I take days off, lol, get me back on the road ?
Tips come in all different times for sure. There's no reason for the tip to not show up instantly though.
@@tipyouintheapp 💯
Tips have come a week later
I also know other drivers that have said the person said they were going to tip them never got one dime. I know a customer that tipped from the backseat in Utah his driver $10 not one dime showed up on the drivers app. It definitely woke him up and he said from now on I’m only giving cashto the driver
I drove a father and son to Disneyland. He said I tipped you $25 in the app. He got out and I looked at my ride and I received $14.80. Yes they steal. This is why we all need to stop driving for these criminals.
If your a driver long enough you kmow they steal, ive caught them many times
I don't think Uber is intentionally stealing tips. I do think that they sometimes include the tip as part of the upfront fare on reserved trips and food deliveries which is wrong. Some people think they are shaving which could be true. The problem with the situation is that Uber doesn't care or appreciate their drivers who they should see as assets not liabilities.
That could be the case.
Uber stole my 20 dollar tip and refuse to give it to me and I put the tip in myself.
That sucks
Yes
I am a Uber driver with over 10k fares,
The answer to the question, is Uber stealing tips: yes.
You sound so naive... do you work for uber corporate?
I am naive. I can't prove if Uber is stealing my tips. I hope they aren't. But maybe they are. Do you have proof?
No way to know for sure, but yeah, easily something that real journalism could identify easily. I still think it's a combo of passengers forgetting/lying, the time it takes to go through the system, and super high fares that aren't being passed along making the passengers think that the driver is already getting a huge payday.
Great observations. I want to give passengers and Uber the benefit of the doubt. But after almost 10,000 trips I'm losing my trust.
Ofc they are stealing tips and completely on purpose.
I've done 11,600 rides in 3.5 years in a 20 minute market (small)
I got to know these riders.
They either steal a little and hide it in 'fees' or all of it and hide it in fees
Even when uber delivers your tip, pronto or even delayed, the will reduce your rate per mile for the next trip. Watch how the service fee baloons immediately after you receive a nice tip. They make money and they keep you on the road longer (that's why the want you to set a "goal").
What is wrong with sharing tips with the executives, CEO, engineers, and the shareholders?
Nothing at all... 😂😂😂f
I think it shows up later, why uber steal tips they can just raise the prices
Why Uber steal driver’s tip?????
That’s right.
To answer is :
Uber is dirty.
Just simple.
I knew it money wasn’t adding up!!😮😮
I've had riders in the past literally hand me their phone to add a tip and I still never got it. 100% scam app
Wow!
I tip drivers every time. But very seldom do I receive a 'thank you' in the app from the driver. So I've wondered if the tips are actually reaching the drivers.
every time i get a tip i always hit the 'thank you' button instantly
often, when a rider says "ill send you a tip in the app" i dont get a tip
did the rider change their mind?
or did uber steal it?
Damn Straight!!!
No one knows, except uber. Sometimes the tips are delaying
If it doesn’t exclusively, say the tip is for the driver, then the tip is for Uber. There’s no misunderstanding. Just shady business
Good question.
The Apps have been stealing tips for quite some time now…….
Favors need instant $$$$
Yes sir!
Levi go and read what Dara wrote in the IPO. It states that we expect drivers won't be happy in the future because we plan on paying less and incentivizing less. They wrote into the IPO! Evert driver needs to read it for themselves. Make a video about it.
This is insane that bill ackman caught them stealing tips the same way I did , they are still stealing tips!!!! I caught them sept 1st, 2024
Kudos to Bill!
It’s hard to believe… but it definitely should be more simple
I know my tips aren’t being stolen
How do you know?
Prove It!
Definitely stealing tips, they've done every damn thing else illegal
Not right wow
Sanbernardino ❤
Yes, it is. Uber is a scam
Feels like it sometimes.
yeh hitting the tip button is different? really?
He text DARA
U don't think they still haaa
How many people have experienced the nonstop dollar tip that you never saw before dollar tips that’s the new way of skimming the tip otherwise there’s no tip whatsoever high class businessman one hour comfort ride into the wine country and he doesn’t have a tip get real. And after that, you can sell me the Brooklyn bridge.
