Learned much about SPAWN in this video. I was a lapse reader of SPAWN from the beginning who jumped back on board with issue #308. I am enjoying the art and stories. I am glad TODD never renumbered the run.
Probably from 252 to close to 300, they are in the 15k, with the exception of Satan Saga Wars from 259-263 I believe. The 2 retailers close to my home only ordered Spawn for suscribers, or by preordering it. I would say the decrease of sales for single issues happened to all, and the trend was (and in some cases still is) the tpbs, since many people (as you said) prefer to wait to gather a bunch of issues in one compendium, to read the whole story in one shot. I still prefer the comics-drug in small doses, I love the glossy on the covers of the single issues, the art, and the simplicity to read them.
vampirella is tough like 5 diff covers for the same issue - not including virgins - vengeance of vampirella (same) then Vampi vs Purgatory - then unholy series - hard to collect them all - any suggestions from anyone ?
That is a tough character to collect all of the covers for. They put out so many covers every single month. It might take winning the lottery to be able to keep up with that endeavor. In all seriousness you might want to use a LCS that offers a discount. I use G-Mart Comics for my pull list. They mail me my comics every month or so. They offer a 35% discount. Good luck.
Buying the ANIMATED SERIES on DVD rekindled my interest in the series enough for me to read it for another 8 YEARS! Now reading GUNSLINGER SPAWN! Just when I thought I was out... I keep hoping Todd will reprint the first 100 issues in b+w paperbacks...if possible, given the "Angela"/Gaiman fiasco!
Spawn was so good at the beginning. Great storyline after another. The Gunslinger is another fun read. Is the Spawn animated series good? I’ve never seen any of those episodes. Thank you for the fantastic comment.

There was an article on key collector comic app. But they got that information from ChomicChron. That lists the sales data month by month back into the 90’s.

Also At timestamp 4:09 - that cover (issue 100) reminds me of Sandman #1 - since you mention Neil Gaiman, I thought that was a cool homage. lol and props to your camerman/camerdog. I didn't realize how low of a print run (15k books ordered) there was with some of those books (I cant imagine if they did ratio variants). Long comment here, but this taught me so much! I really like videos like this, showing data+books I haven't read+sweet mcfarlane covers+nixon/matt = a fun video (I also just rewatched your original comic room video, and wow, love this camera angle)
Wow man, that's a lot of great info. I never collected any Image, but it boggles the mind how a popular property like Spawn could hit such low numbers. I didn't know that Spawn had so many cover swipes, heh. Great stuff man. Arf arf!
I've tried not to go into detail but basically, Todd started writing it again and while I liked it overall, it was pretty different from Classic Spawn! The biggest change was that from about 187 or so to 252...AL SIMMONS was GONE and someone else tookover! That's all I'll say unless someone asks! In 2022 Al has been back since roughly #257 or so!
@@MattWoodsComics I think if it had been anyone else but Todd McFarlane the series would have been cancelled a long time ago. Look at its success now, years later. An amazing thing to see and I am happy for him.
Im a huge spawn fan and have every issue so far to present. What I would really love to see is McFarlane to draw again like he used to back in early hey day! The comics are now computer drawn and miss that old pencil artwork!
Fellow Spawn addicted and completionist here. I love Spawn a lot and really Love his remergence to popularity. And it hast mich to do with Todes increased engagement in the title again. It is like He rediscoverer his own brainchild and puts most of his energie there again. There indeed was a reason for the Sales drop, as there where Made some story decisions executed from #185 which, though nott badly executed and generally interesting, at least to me, obviously did not sit well with fans. Read it and you will know, what I mean. But I'm glad those days are over and the series ist really firing on all cylinder again. Again becoming one of my must read quickly books. they need to get the spawn movie ( thats been in the works for years ) out there......that alone will bring new fans to the franchise....

Love those Spawns man. There was definitely a lull in the Spawn collecting. Even McFarlane came back to do homage covers to drum up interest again.

Spawn 9 Angela belong Neil Gaiman he won the lawsuit, he turn around and sold the Character to Stan Lee at Marvel. Angela belongs to Marvel Comics.
