In this short video, I will try to cast a silver piece for the first time using the old method. This is a burnout casting.
Yes, I will use modern equipment, but this does not change the very meaning of this method. So I hope you enjoy this video. Happy viewing!
I just got my pinecone necklace today and I love it. It’s so unique and the fact that there is a video of its creation to go with it, makes it even more special.
Just ordered one ;-) - received it today, great work!!! Thx
Another great video, but to be honest with my skill level, I would have got as far as 1:03 and said “Here mom, I’ve made you a Christmas decoration”.
I didn't understand what was going on, but I'm impressed anyway!
Felicitaciones por estas obras realizadas en plata, saludos desde Venezuela amigo.
Dobrý nápad. Veľmi krásna práca...
Genial 👌
Gracias por compartir la técnica 🙂
Nice work! Have you tried bones? Like small bird skulls? I'm wondering does bone burn away? Bird bones are thin and often hollow. I cleaned one bird skull and wanna try it at school.. Maybe brass skull :)
I was trying to think of ways to do a 2-part mold to preserve the skull, but I'm thinking you would have to simplify the form since there is so much negative space..kinda defeats the purpose.
I'm really curious, did you end up trying this? I have a tabletop kiln and some spare bones I just might try it too. I mean, that's how things are cremated, right?
according to google, bones will not burn.
also, they put cremated subjects in blenders to resemble ashes.
Great video. Thank you for sharing!
I assume that the molten silver burns away the tiny pinecones, correct? Or does the silver just coat them with the pinecone staying inside, which I can't imagine actually happening?
dolfinmagikpro they probably burn away together with the wax when he put them in the furnace
Plaster and cones/wax stay in the furnace until they've burnt out and evaporated entirely. The empty space gets filled by whichever liquid metal is then used for casting.
Yeah it’s all incinerated prior to the silver being poured in.
I think when he puts it in the oven before pouring the silver, the wood burns away just like the wax would.
The ancient secret of casting silver jewelry remains a secret.
Hey Bonn make articulated finger rings for the next video
Much love from Nepal 🖤
Oh those are beautiful. I'm going to have to get one; they're just gorgeous.
That easily??!
Gonna have to try this
Beautiful jewelry
How did you remove the charcoal left while burning the plaster ?
Some Furnances get hot enough that it just kind of vaporizes away. You could also blow some air into it to remove the ash.
They probably just left it in the furnace for a long time with plenty of oxygen to allow it to burn out.
Bellissimi 👍🏻
Bravissimo 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
So the mould can only be used once?
what was the material you used for casting the negatives right before adding your silver? Plaster?
How did you remove the wax and cast silver after completing the pour?
its called investment, not sure what it is, sold as compound for jewellers
Why didn't you show the process of burning out the wax and whatever the cones were made of? Were they wax? I can't imagine real cones would burn out cleanly enough
Beautiful!
no idea what the old method means, but you should do it more often! I want one!!
Looks amazing. Does the oven burn out the organic material too? Or does the silver do that?
Your first guess is correct.
This music really remind me of "Time" from Inception
(What's the funky dome thing?)
Whats the white molding material? Ive been trying to find its name for a hot minute. I cannot find any products with the keyword "investment". That just shows me the shares of casting companies etc
This is amazing. Not one cast is exactly the same.
i am from indonesian.
And i am subscribe your UA-cam channel ..
Also hey look bonny boi uploaded
Craftsman!!
Always exciting to watch your creations 🔥.
Im second
Video top.🔥🔥
Wow that’s amazing
Beautiful
I think you skipped the step where you suspend the pinecone array in the plaster hah. Unless I’m thick and didn’t see it, but I think you didn’t show it. Regardless - you’ve got another subscriber. This stuff is my jam!
How’d you get the pine cones to burn off completely??
How long does it take to bake, for the wax to disappear?
I had no idea the ash wouldn't screw up the mold?? What temperature do you have to reach, or how else do you cast organic things like this?
Yea thats the biggest question here. He probably cleaned it with compressed air but left this process out..
You should cast some marbles. That'd be awesome like this video. Put your makers mark in them.
Thankfully now it’s much easier
Your like a pro
Amazing
awsome!
awesome
What is the rotory bit you using at the end
What is the second container for which you put the mould in?
To hold the mould and temperature at the same time or does it fulfill another purpose?
If you are referring to the container after the furnace it's a vacuum chamber. It pulls air through the holes in the flask/plaster and allows the metal to fill in the detailed places.
@@SheepSlayer Aaaah I see. So that's then the "replacement" for the original centrifugal force casting I presume. Thanks for your reply!
@@avyitis3425 Yes indeed! For larger tree-based molds vacuum is the way to go. Centrifugals works beautifully for smaller or single items though.
Anyone know what the mold mixture is?
@@greasephotography1166 you can buy premade plaster mixtures for just this purpose. Make sure you research what you need, as burnout temperatures can be different and prices can vary greatly too. Don't get overpriced crap.
All who say first taste my blue shell ,
The real wood part melted in the furnace with the wax?!
Me when artists post workshop tutorials: Yoink
You poured the silver into the mold, which was mounted in the kiln, then you sealed the kiln. Was that to burn out the fiber or is this generally done?
Can u make the Knife from Stefano Valentini from the Game The Evil within 2 please 😉😉😉😉😇
What's the secret tho??
I am not English,I am русский :D
Топ контент,смотрю что залетает,какие видосы,англо или русс,вооот,а крафтишь офигенно!
what secret?
Хата в новом жилищном комплексе, мастерская с кучей дорогостоящего оборудования, возможность потратить годы на обучение и получение должного уровня мастерства в креативных навыках, татухи. Круто наверное, когда есть богатые родители.
Did somebody already reproduce this method? I'm not buying this :-( normal burnout cycle is up to 750 deg C, wood will not veporaize and vanise at that temp
The old secret of using vacuum casting....
Oxidize the chain bro
Hi
Who use plaster
Having a bunch of expensive equipment is not a secret.
