All he needed was a strike partner tbh, Chelsea at the time had lots of wingers and other strikers were not as fit to the task as Torres.
I remember watching Torres and being frustrated at how many runs he made that went unnoticed. His style didn’t really suit a Chelsea especially initially

Chelsea in the last decade has been all about pace. One of the best counter attacking teams in europe. I will miss this. The hazards, pedros n willian. Absolutely amazing trio for me these 3.

I don't get why so many people think Torres was a failure at Chelsea. Yes he wasn't a prolific scorer like he was at Liverpool but he worked very well for Chelsea and scored some crucial goals for them, including against one of the best Barca teams of all time (aka Uefalona haha). He lifted some impressive trophies with the Blues which, in my book, is what makes someone a success for their club.
Every single time I watch Torres' goal and I tear up in pride. Down to 10 men and being the underdog while facing Barcelona and yet, we were magnificent! It just feels so good coming back to the goals from time to time.
Most of these came from Conte's 3-4-3. Oh I really miss him.

He didn't fit conte's strategy and at the time $60m was one of the highest transfer price ever.
Oscar was class on his day but still too inconsistent. He didn't improve in this regard and didn't fit Contes strategy (or was unable to adapt)
He was a bit slow and couldn't defend also with his physique. That's why Liverpool got Origi gaining Kilograms of muscles before he was allowed to play under Klopp.
He wanted to leave citing better salary package offered elsewhere.
I'd have him back any day. He's still a class player. He just needed to be more selfish in front of goal. Great team player.
