Also as a black guy I know race shouldn't matter but i must confess its does my heart well seeing more black guys explore this genre of music instead of the status quo rapper or R&B or Neo Soul feel like a ton of black folks be in a box... But I say this because I have always been a rock fan but nice to see more representation in a genre i love
I always felt pretty alone in my love for rock music growing up in ghetto parts of Chicago. Performed a rock song for a school concert show when I was in high school and was surprised by how many people liked the song. A couple white people were there, but it was primarily Hispanics and black people. I'm fairly convinced that more people would enjoy the genre if they didn't just settle for what they find on the radio. Gotta experiment more, broaden your horizons.
You should check out Howard Jones (Killswitch Engage, Devil You Know, Light the Torch) and Tosin Abasi (Animals as Leaders) if you haven't. Also, if you're into Deathcore (warning: not for everyone), Adam Jones of Oceano is really good.
There’s also The Veer Union (I forgot his name), like half of the band Volumes isn’t white, Alexis Brown or Straight Line Stitch, and the singer of Oceans of Slumber is also a black woman.
Idk man, I should be 100% over this but I love love LOVE seeing black lead singers. In the city where I'm from, it feels like me and my sister are the only black people that listen to rock music. So when I see a black lead singer/band member, it just makes me feel a little less alone.
I love his voice. I know this is going to be a generalization, but black guys tend to have a deeper resonance or timbre to their voices that I really enjoy. Wish we had more black vocalists interested in the genre.
Most deep bass I know that actually sing are white. Haha plus most white guys have this deep of a timbre (baritone) they just raise there larynx to fit the weird norm that's been created.
Black dudes in the rock/metal genre make me happier because life should be about coming together with similar interests and acceptance of our differences. Metal music has brought people together based on the interests and always accepted the differences regardless of race, color, sex or creed. Just a bunch of people who can't fully express ourselves without music. Today's society has utilized those differences as ways to separate us further from one another to define our understanding of one another as an intangible, distant concept. Fire Scot Linehan.
If your a misfit, freak, don't fit the societal mold of so called perfection, or semi normal (Whatever that is) metal head's are Always down with who you are no matter what you are. We're always accepting and have the mindset of "The more the merrier" and "There's strength in numbers." Thank the Metal God's because there's nothing worse than an entitled pretentious snob you have to deal with in a crowd. I've never had a bad experience at a metal show. I've always had an Epic time and made great friends who I run into at other shows no matter the distance. I wouldn't trade the meet ups and humorous memories for anything. Born And Bred Metal Head Always!!
I like how much the singer looks like he enjoys the singing. He can't keep a smile of his face lol... of course if i had that kind of voice i would be pretty stoked too.
Josh Bryant yeah I agree. This song seems to be about someone who feels unnatural to his surroundings and a feeling of not belonging, but the power in flipping that into a trait that makes you a unique individual, can be extremely uplifting, as well as embolden the individual to explore and cherish their individuality further.
As a human being that happens to be black I love that more black people are coming to metal. All I ask is leave the victimhood and oppression garbage out and we are good. I love metal especially Thrash Metal 🤘🏾
This guys vocals are sooo full and that is very rare in metal now a days. Most voices are thin and made bigger with reverb. Good job fire from the gods :D catch tune.
This song has kept me alive since it came out two years, ago. If I could reach out to the band and thank them for giving me some type of way to rationalize my feelings in my head through music and cope better. Rob D I'm just happy there are more. I love kwi. An seven dust but these guys are standing out more.
This video has been in my sidebar for weeks now and I had a feeling it would be some rap metal thing, just cause the guys black. Glad I clicked it and doubly glad to admit my own failings because holy shit this is good!
I love in living color, Hendrix and Kill-Switch Engage!
Can't forget about Filth and Oceano! Adam Warren is a fuggin beast. Definitely has some of the best deathcore vocals atm
Rob D no kidding. Godfathers of blues/rock and hip hop. Heavy influence on country and country rock as well. We owe the black community huge for music. Keep music alive lol
Proper drummer. People forget that drummer makes a dif. :)
Yep. To hear the importance of the drummer, someone could just watch the Wacken live version of Ghost Love Score by Nightwish.
Fun fact, Richard(drummer) wrote and produced this song. It's his love baby.
Facts
Definitely top 5 greatest bands to see in concert, i was front row a few years back and the energy flowing from them was absolutely incredible
Ahh yes, a bridge, a chorus and melody. First modern metal song I've come across in a long time that doesn't seem to be just a display of overly talented musicians making boring non-hummable songs. This is excellent!
His voice is pure magic. I love how rich and smokey it is!!!
I love metal , and very happy to see another black man in this genre. Metal doesn’t discriminate!
A black dude created this kind of music lol
This song has spoken to my heart, its exactly how I feel. I dont belong in this place
Lead has a killer voice. No matter how many times I replay this song it never gets old
This song got me through a lot of hard times these past 3 years and now that I see that chapter of my life closing I'm finding even more inspiration from it. Such gr8 soul to this and a sound iv always vibed with. Thank you so much for your art fftg.
Kind of getting a "Hands Like Houses" vibe from them, but you guys are freaking awesome. Keep up the good work!
same
Listen to their other stuff, it is NOT like Hands Like Houses at all
I listened to another song of theirs, and you're right. They're really good though :p Jimmy Lynch
+screampfan2013 Oh yeah it is very good, just not like HLH
Right. Jimmy Lynch
The Music, the vocals, the lyrics, the vibe, the video
This song is perfect! And I think its my overall favorite rock song of all time
I agree
They need to write more music like this. So good
To this day one of the best songs I've ever heard. Still hoping this band gets big one day
How am I JUST discovering this group? I dunno, maybe I was hermiting under a rock or something. But these vocals are so crisp and punchy its criminal. I cannot get enough. The bass just smashes right into you, no apologies. Solid drum work, really engaging guitars - from the first note to the last just raw feeling and good technical control.
Excuse me while I devour their ENTIRE discography like a starving woman
I just same the same thing like whoa!
Redemption and become a hero that resonates with me heavy
His voice is only going to get better through the years dude these guys are going to be a classic!
Anyone listening to this song still in 2024?
Got to shake hands with these guys in Camdenton, MO last night. Rare sight for bands like this here. Awesome show!
Every song of this band is just pure masterpiece! Hope to hear more from them. Amazing
Style and flow are in line with Sevendust and they are very talented. BIG UPS!!!!
YO his voice. I've listened to this on repeat about 20 times in the past hour?
This is as close to a perfect song I've heard in years, love these guys.
Man I feel exactly the same
First time ever hearing of this band. Really happy with the outcome. Great song! Any more good songs from this band?
"Excuse Me" is a good song tho... you should listen
+Lucas Renato I was listening to that song as I got your reply. haha really dope song tho.
The softer track like this "evolve" has a lot to do with the current state of the world. Dope lyrics and vocals!
+raiderdavemusic Thanks bro great song indeed. 👊
+Chris Mendoza I manage them, if you ever need swag from the band Lmk david@piratemgmt.com
Stumbled on this gem of audible bliss today. Wont be the same tomorrow. Thanks Guys, you have my support and respect.
This guys fucking energy when he sings is awesome he looks like he's having so much fun I'm so glad I stumbled upon this band on accident!!
am I the only one who likes both bands fire from the gods and backwordz... I mean why the "this band is way better" or "backwordz kicks their ass" I don't fucking care, both are fucking talented and geniuses in their way. what's in their past is in their past. fuck hate, fuel happiness and positivity, cheers.
Found this jam last night, played it on repeat about 200 times today 🤟
My husband and I got to see you live in concert and I gotta say you guys really are amazing. The vocals were great and you guys kept some insane energy on that stage. You guys are creating a different feel to the metal scene and we love it. Keep on rocking. ❤️ I'd buy another ticket if I get the chance! ✌️
I love seeing my fellow black brothers be lead singers in this genre or even heavier music
He's smiling because as long as the song last he feels as if he were a million miles away...
Gotta be the best band i’ve ever listened to by now: Right Now is the most catch song ever, Excuse me is just a pure banger and so heavy, the ambience in this and all are so different.
This dude's voice gives me goosebumps, holy fuck!
This band needs a much bigger fanbase man
I just discovered this song and band and I'm in love! I can't wait to listen to more!
Listen to their newest album it’s pretty good :)
Finding this band in an accident is the best thing ever
Man... this era of metalcore was and still is truly unmatched
These dudes are fucking badass! I am ashamed of myself for not listening to them earlier! Lead vocals kill it! Great job dude!
Hey Eric what's up? This might be my favorite song I've discovered in the past 2 years.
Troy G. Hit me up on email dude! skild.sic52211@gmail.com
The vibe I get off this band is a mix of Sevendust and The Veer Union! So glad we have more of my black brothers getting involved in Hard Rock and Metal music!
No one gonna comment on how this is basically the story of the new power rangers?
No one wants to admit to seeing that dumpster fire.
mind blown lol and honestly while the movie had its small flaw, as a totally former rad 90s kid. I thought it was a 3 outta 5 star on my scale. and dat ending though if you know what I mean
Lol! I thought it was actually pretty good!
He's got that hint of Lajon voice and it's AMAZING! Great music guys!
Not gonna lie. Black people have generally amazing vocals.
Cleaner than lajon ...lajons voice is still good but too many ciggys and too many years screaming have somewhat taken its toll
@@twinrivers6200 Nope LJ's voice has aged like fine wine have you heard anything off of Blood & Stone God Damn are they best hearing vocals since CDM.
