I would say check the SMD components at the bottom of the Yaesu encoder, I had a similar problem which was caused by a bad solder joint on one of the resistors. The symptoms might also be caused by dirt in the sensor inside the housing.
I have an Icom 765 and the VFO tuning knob does nothing. I have to make a direct frequency entry on whatever frequency I want to listen to or transmit on. The VFO Tuning Knob will not change the frequency whatsoever. Anyone have a clue what might be wrong? I wonder if this might be a faulty vfo sensor?
