    Probably my craziest nba take ever is that if that pelicans team stayed healthy, they could’ve won a ring. Nobody was beating GSW in 2018, but in 2019 If that roster had stayed together and warriors are still hurt, I think they could’ve made a run. AD, Jrue, and Rondo have all been top 3 players on championship teams since then, and Boogie was unguardable. They swept Portland in 2018, and Portland made it to the WCF in 2019, it’s not out of the question that there’s a universe in which that team wins a ring of boogie doesn’t get hurt

    Did you ever watch the video of the Kings war room during the 2014 NBA Draft?
    Shareef Abdur Rahim had been the Kings main scout that season and he wanted to go after Zach Lavine or Elfrid Payton. Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond who were Kings execs also really liked Lavine and it looked like he was their pick. The problem was the owner was in the room with them and he came with a team of Yes Men around him. At some point the owner said "Nik Stauskas" and the entire room EXCEPT for Abdur-Rahim all start nodding their head . Great idea, Nick Stauskas, a good shooter in college who also happens to play the exact same position as their pick from the following season, Ben McLemore.
    The picked him and Abdur-Rahim resigned on the spot. He had spent an entire year scouting these players and had long since crossed Stauskas off of his list, saying that he would have a lot of issues getting his shot off in the NBA.
    A season later every single person in that room besides the owner was gone, all resigned for one reason or another but really what it came down to was they couldnt work with an owner who was going to make all the decisions. Eventually Vlade Divac was hired and as much as I like Divac as a player he was basically just a mouthpiece for the owner.
    It is no wonder why Sacramento, while doing well in a few drafts by finding Hield and Fox, are not in danger of making the playoffs in the foreseeable future.

    Boogie is really a double case of "what if":
    1) What if he wasn't traded by the Kings? Worst (tied with Wolves?) run franchise of the past 15 years
    2) What if he didn't get hurt when in New Orleans? The duo of AD & Cousins was really something scary.

    The cousins era is when I really started to watch basketball and start to grasp it more I’m a kings fan and even back then with not great understanding of the game of basketball I could tell that they weren’t getting him any help, I was excited for rondo coming cause it meant some kind of hope but still nothing and then we traded him for buddy which is when I had a good grasp on the game and I was so upset, he was my favorite player and all love to buddy but if we would have just kept cousins and got him some real help his career could have gone so much better

    I still believe that that Pels team would’ve got the best battle to Golden State if Cousins didn’t get hurt. Those two would’ve been a nightmare for that defense without real bigs and right before his injury those two were amazing with Rondo and Holiday.

    That was really it, what sunk Boogies career to what it is today is his Achilles injury/other following leg injuries and his reputation with the refs. Got teched a lot because of his reputation and never really changed how often he would get irate with refs even after the injuries and the injuries sapped his jumping making him less of an offensive threat from beyond the arc and less of a defensive threat in the paint.

    • @tnk4me4
      @tnk4me4 2 роки тому

      @@calumwainwright9545 yes he would have. The celtics had the no1 pick that year and traded down with philly to finesse them since they knew that they were picking tatum and fultz was concensus at no1. LA were bullied by hype to pick Lonzo so Tatum wasn't on their radar. Some Mock drafts actually had Tatum lower than Josh Jackson. No way SAC or anyone else in the league doesn't pick fultz with that pick.

    I don’t disagree that the drafts were a flop-but to say they missed all those all stars is hindsight bias. Who’s to say Dame is Dame if he goes to Sacramento? Same with all the others you mentioned. But I learned from and enjoyed this video. Keep it up!

    I'm a pelicans fan and i absolutely agree with everything, people seem to forget that even after cousins went down the Pelicans swept the Blazers with a core of AD holiday Rondo and Mirotic. If cousins was healthy we could've given the warriors competition in the 2nd round

    so the league judges players based on how healthy they are not how good they are. But boogie means scary good, and someone
    you don't see or hear coming. And that is the definition of what demarcus cousins brings. He is so versatile and can play any position. Before his injury DC was the best center in the game. Six yrs in a row. Dre even said so at the time. It's that fight he has in him, fierce. Sactown to NewOr. And carried GS in the '19 playoffs. He is still, with 30 mins ; 21pt 11reb a game. Boogie means he has unseen power.

    Not the most tragic career ever, but certainly left a lot to be desired. Even after Sacramento, once he seemed to finally get his mental stuff under check for the most part, it's like he was cursed. I remember that year on the Pelicans, I was really getting behind the Cousins is an MVP level player talk. Then the Achilles, I think he's torn his ACL twice, at least once. Then the quad, 2-3 different teams with different roles and playstyles. It's not hard to see why he could never be the same player.
