I played one today for first time at music store in Tangshan, China. This is first video i searched after realizing I will buy one. I think there is no other string instrument that is as free flowing as this one. Reminds me of the kind of expression string players usually envy of the wind instruments. I have a guzheng but I think I will play this even more.

@copperleaves I play GuQin and I am an American, I agree with you. Out of the many fretless stringed instruments that I play like violin, viola, cello, upright base, oud, rabab, sarod, sarangi, erhu and one I created using two strings and my broken bouzouki, only the GuQin is centered around the realization of universal harmony through sound. Sorry to use your phrase but it describes the GuQin better than anything I can write. When I play GuQin I am an observer of life as well as a participant.
The low tones of the heavier strings almost have the sound of a piano. I suppose when you consider how they are being struck it shouldn't be surprising. It's a very similar motion to the piano's hammer.

我很久很久以前就買過呂老師的錄音帶，呂老師的古琴就是會讓你一直聽到聲音不吟了為止，呂老師的琴音一直扣住你的心，而其他大部分人的古琴會讓你耐不住要"轉台"。你看呂老師的彈奏好像旁若無人似地在和琴對話，琴也積極回應，而其他的人感覺裝模作樣姿勢太多，純粹是要讓人看他的演奏姿態，換句話就是表演給人看的，有那種"我是大師在彈奏古琴耶"的感覺，很抱歉我這樣說，這是我的感覺，我也很直白不拐彎抹角說出，很抱歉，請原諒。呂老師已經融入到琴的世界，不是在表演，是在和他的琴老友聊天。其實呂老師會很多樂器，琵琶曲十面埋伏我不知聽了多少次。可惜他住在香港，不然我就不會學不成古琴了。祝呂老師身體健康。

The tune is actually called "流水高山" i.e. flowing waters, high mountains. One of my favourites. Wonderful performance.

there is a different guqin song also called 高山

***** I prefer guqin than guzheng as well. Guzheng is more emotional than guqin, but guqin is the one that can bring peace in your mind.

吴先生基本完全是按照管平湖的原作弹奏出来的，句子清楚，段落分明很连惯不脱节，手法很形象地表达了流水的态势，演奏得很有水准👍👍👍不象其他人弹的《流水》，乱编一气给弄走样了🤣😂😅
