Hello. After I export from Blender to GLB and import it into After Effects, the materials get removed and the objects turn completely white. I'm using the latest version of After Effects. Do you usually change any settings when exporting to GLB from Blender?
Hey! I've bumped into that issue before. When exporting to GLB from Blender, sometimes the materials don't show up correctly in After Effects. Here's what I usually do: Stick to Principled BSDF Shaders: Make sure all your materials use the Principled BSDF shader. Other shaders might not export properly. UV Unwrap Everything: Double-check that all your objects are UV unwrapped. Without proper UVs, textures can go missing. Embed Textures: In the GLB export settings, be sure to include your textures so they're embedded in the file. That way, After Effects won't lose track of them. Tweak Export Settings: I always check 'Apply Modifiers' and 'Export Materials' when exporting. Sometimes I also triangulate the meshes under geometry settings to prevent any shading issues. After bringing it into After Effects, you might need to relink or adjust textures manually, especially if you're using plugins like Element 3D. Hope this helps!
@@MasdLab Thank you! I had been struggling with this for a few days, but thanks to you, I was able to import colored objects into After Effects. It seems that applying any shader other than the Principled BSDF results in a completely white appearance, but I’ll do some more research on my own as well. Thank you!
Hey! If you're trying to export an animation with an alpha channel in After Effects and nothing shows up when you select RGB+Alpha, here's what you can do: Check Transparency in Your Composition: Click the Toggle Transparency Grid button in the Composition panel to make sure your background is actually transparent. Set Up Render Settings Correctly: Go to Composition > Add to Render Queue. In the Render Queue, click on Output Module (it might say "Lossless"). In the settings: Set Channels to RGB + Alpha. Choose a format that supports alpha channels, like QuickTime with the Animation codec or ProRes 4444. Ensure Depth is set to Millions of Colors+ (the "+" includes the alpha channel). Remove Solid Backgrounds: Make sure you don't have any solid layers or backgrounds that could be blocking the transparency. Use Media Encoder if Needed: Sometimes using Adobe Media Encoder gives you more options for codecs that support alpha channels. Test Your Render: Import the rendered file back into After Effects or Premiere Pro to check if the transparency works. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
What's super weird is that when imported it will bring some of the materials in but not ALL of them. I'm still trying to import glass and translucent materials. My hunch is that it will only import materials with no transparency settings. Models with 5 or more materials used will have some but not all included.
I have the latest version of AE and im importing 3d objects from maya (obj.) The object imports just fine, however my textures are missing. Any clue on how to fix this?
Hey @zoesolomons7889, this can happen if the textures aren’t linked properly when exporting from Maya or importing into After Effects. Make sure your .obj file is accompanied by the correct texture files (like .mtl, .jpg, or .png) in the same folder. Also, double-check that the file paths for textures are correct. If After Effects still isn’t displaying the textures, you may need to manually re-assign them inside After Effects or use a third-party plugin like Element 3D to manage your 3D objects more easily. Let me know if that helps!
when importing my blender 3d asset to after effect, but when i do export in obj/glb/gltf file i have a white wall at the back and down of my asset, on top on that my asset is full white, with no textures and colors on, and yes i use the last version of AE
