It seems like the tungsten filament's behavior in the oil could be due to a mix of factors. You see, those filaments in bulbs are fragile and need specific conditions to work right. When you put the tungsten bit in the oil, it probably started glowing because it's resistant to electricity. But, outside the bulb's controlled setup, the heat might not spread well. That sudden temperature rise could've made the filament super hot, causing it to melt and stop working. Also, the oil not being a good heat conductor and having no controlled atmosphere could've messed up the heating, making the filament fail. In short, the uncontrolled settings, bad heat flow, and varying temperatures likely caused the filament to glow briefly, then fuse and die out.
