USING HELPER SPRINGS TO LOWER YOUR RIDE HEIGHT

  • In a recent video I fitted some fantastic Meister R coilovers to the Pulsar BUT although the fronts had plenty of room to go low, the rears just weren't quite what I was after because my car is lighter....
So after some discussion with Meister, we decided that installing some helper springs on the rear might help and give me the ride height I was looking for!
It's worth saying that this approach can work for other brands also if you have the option to buy helper springs but you should ask the manufacturer as it can also have an impact on the handling characteristics.

Hi Mythical Mark! These helper springs have made a difference. Now the back is lower and has a more aggressive look. In my opinion, to give a lower look you could put more accentuated side skirts and an aftermarket rear bumper, both at the same height as the front bumper. If I'm not mistaken you wanted to install a custom bodykit of the R32. That would be super cool. Congratulations Mythical Mark, your GTIR is the most beautiful, high-performance and with the best sound in the world. Have a great evening 😃👍

If they're linear rate springs in the coilovers, twisting the spring perch lower will make your car go lower. No changes to spring rate or preload will be made if the spring coils all have equal spacing and they're not progressive rate. The bottom mount adjustment is used to set your damper travel/length, not your base height.

The car can go no lower than where it is now Jack, and I think the height is probably about as low as you'd want to go too!

Looks bang on now. With you though, logically it's not obvious how it works out but it clearly does.

yeah some things like this I find confusing as it's not so obvious until you think about it!

I spent a good couple of minutes trying to get my head around why this works, and I think I got there in the end, but its one of those head scratchers at first...
