    thank you!
I have this amp and live in a country where tubes are exotic lol, this gave me a nice idea of what to expect.

So, you're trying to test a piece of analog gear through a bunch of digital crap and then, you imagine that we can hear any difference through the crappy UA-cam sound... Nice! 👌🏼

I couldn't hear a difference at all in the tubes either, the guitars sound varied greatly. The trick to finding your sound well there is no trick but many variations of combinations & they all sound different. The type of wood in a guitars body, guage & type of strings, a paper cone vs polypropylene, an amps design & speaker size are just the tip of the iceberg. Then there's all the processed sound equipment vs Vintage Analog ones. I'm pretty sure there is a sound for every individual, finding it though may be a daunting task💙

Yes, the final sound is the sum of many, many factors... some matter more than others, but it’s all part of the fun!

With my Vox AC4 amp, using my squire strat with the power amp volume turned all the way up, the amp doesn’t even break up until the gain is 2-3 o’clock! Which tells me any breakup I get is from the preamp, the power amp side is clean! If it’s clean, it’s not injecting any of its own character. I think the first preamp tube is the most important for your tone

    EHX for winner.

"335" sounded muddy throughout. With the Strat the JJ's/EHX to me sounded less harsh than Sino

To the OP, you’re totally deaf. The EH tubes were nice. The JJ tubes were flat sounding lacking dynamics, and the original tubes were harsh.

Hello Jose! Forgive me, I'm not sure if I understand your question. Are you wanting to use a different brand of power amp tubes in your amp? I'm not sure what you mean by "the reference" and the "pre-metal".

Aaron, Does your Defender run really HOT?? Did Tubes make any difference in running temp of the amp?

    • @gastank43
      @gastank43 4 роки тому +3

Running hot is pretty much what tube amps do. Just don't cover the ventilation holes and you'll be fine. And if it catches fire don't piss on it or you will shock your pecker.

@@gastank43 So you're saying I shouldn't put out an amp fire like that? Wish I'd seen your response earlier but thankfully I'm mostly recovered.

You may be tone deaf. Have your ears checked. Each set of tubes had a clear different tonal quality.

I have used the same sets in different amps. IME the EHX tubes are the best quality. You will only hear a difference if your amp allows it - some let youd rive the power section really hard. An ac30 or ad30 for example with a quad of these would let you hear a difference at high volume. JJ tubes aren't great in my opinion... the el84s always seem to die easily and they rattle really loud in combos straight out of the box

the tube-rolling thing is a bunch of cork-sniffing BS. the only time you might hear a difference is when an amp is cranked to the max and the output tubes are pushed to clipping, and the output transformer is saturated...which nobody does anymore. silicon circuitry(namely distortion pedals) replaced playing loud about 40 years back.

speak for yourself - when i put in JJs after my =C= set failed i could definitely tell immediately.

Nobody does anymore, but, that's why we buy these amps! Duuuh!

Did you bias the amp when you changed the tubes? Or did you just switch them out? Did you use the tube socket spray? THanks!

Power tubes have nothing to do with the sound, preamp have..... A lot to be precise
