Hey Rory ✌🏼 Waited a long time for you to do Queen again. You just reacted to 2 Queen songs that are in my top 5… and everyone knows how difficult numbering favorite Queen songs can be. The album seems almost ‘ tame’ after watching a lot of LIVE!! As a pianist I go ga ga for Play the Game in Milton Keynes and I love Dragon Attack Live in Montreal. You’ve probably seen both . TY for getting back to the albums There are so many. Hope you continue 🥰
You have to do Play the Game, the first song, live in Montreal 1981. Freddie uses the “gravel” voice in lieu of high pitched. It’s fantastic, the drums and guitar are awesome too!! Don’t forget about the 24th! Anniversary date when we lost Freddie.
Yay!!!..At long last 'The Game' review from my friend Rory. First track 'Play the Game' is in my top 5 Queen tracks of all time. Spectacular arrangement, and truly showcases dear Freddie's inimitable range and emotional intonation...totally sublime.❤ 'Dragon Attack' Killer track which is also among my favourites...Freddie and John truly took it all the bloody way when performing it Live.
I completely agree with the comparison of the first two tracks and Freddie's personality/emotion. The contrast he is able to portray is a gift. I'm sure there must be someone else who can do that but I honestly can't think of anyone who can transpose their personality through their vocal like Freddie. Thanks, Rory!
I actually bought this album on vinyl from a very cool used record shop on Ave A in the East Village, NYC, near where I live, the same day you uploaded this video! I had seen it a week prior and even though I'm pretty broke right now - $25.00 was a decent price and it was calling to me all week, I kept thinking about it and wondering if it was still there. I really do love that opening title track - and the funny thing is I've never been over the moon about the Beatles but then I like a lot of bands that are so clearly super Beatles influenced like Squeeze and the first Bangles album, Marshall Crenshaw (few of his singles I do like) etc. Dragon Attack is just f ing kicking - I love that (would we call it a ) walking bass in the second half of the song at the 12:58 mark in your video. There's no song on this album I skip over when playing it at home. Sounds good on a decent turntable with Marshall amp speaker. :)
Yes, I know what you mean re mature younger selves, Brian is still overlaying but not as much, sounds cleaner, then there is the big jumps in technology to factor in. They are leaning more into pop also. Great album.
1980. And Dragon Attack is one of their most overlooked tracks. A trip to a massage parlor? "Got a dragon on my back." (Asian lady?). "Go find another customer." "Take me to the room." "Dragon attack." (Multiple Asian ladies?) "She's gonna give me the biz-a-ness." (I'll bet she is).
Good album with some very good tracks..... Like you say its a clean singing album Freddies voice is very clear.. Link to the live version at Montreal which is different.. ua-cam.com/video/LS1RXZ6qpLc/v-deo.html
Roger is just smashing it on those drums on Play the Game

Freddie always said "You can catch me when I'm very strong, or a real baby." Happy birthday Freddie. Always loved, never forgotten.
Yessss!!! Finally after a long wait, Queen album is back again!!! Thanks Rory 👑👍
Love this album. Thanks for sharing Rory.
Forty five years ago tonight I attended my very first concert,
Queen @The Spectrum 11/ 23/77
The first Queen album I owned, I was 13. It’s still my favorite in their catalog. Dragon Attack is the highlight of side one.
Love this album♥️
