Mystery, absolute, spaces where humanity will never reach. Music like this is the only thing that can touch this. Touch but not understand. Greetings from Poland.
it's like a movie soundtrack, ode to the long and weary journey, . It's almost like they are just buying time to figure out where to go next with it. A lot like life itself, tedious and be labored downright mundane at times. Climbing that hill
I used to listen to this piece almost religiously when I was in high school. It served as a muse for me whenever I was practicing drawing/painting any Hellenistic influenced artwork. Finally, when I turned 16 I had the pleasure to see them at Wolftrap with my father.
Done the same! *Mystical experience* listen to Children Of The Sun while reading At The Mountains Of Madness and repeat.. "we are ancient, as ancient as the sun.. we came from the ocean, once our ancestral home..." It's the book's soundtrack to me!
@@thomasstock2726 what a nice reply, fortunately, I am a fan of Arvo Pärt. I find that his minimalist approach in classical music brings out more of his technical ability and really stresses an uneasy sense of ambiance that can be perceived as eerie and overall creepy which in my opinion, makes his music pretty lasting.
I work at a animal boarding facility and they play this song like 8 times a day and it reminded me of a playing a video game and I'm blessed to have found the sound finally
I forget thinking about life when I listen to this. It's all lifelessness, the cosmos, the stars, vast and curled up within themselves and...cold. So cold, there is no life.
Incredible music! One of my favorites from Dead Can Dance. It should have been included on either their Spleen and Ideal or Within the Real of a Dying Sun albums.
The mother of two girls who were my friends in my early teenage killed herself not long ago. I listened to this then, soberly pondering what her soul must have been going through which led her to suicide. She was a devout Christian who had inspired me in past times.
al igual que en acid , bitter and sad hay cierta reminiscencia acuática; es evidente el tema de la aparición del hombre, ya sea por creación divina o evolución, ante la naturaleza que se percibe tan "desolada"
At first mesmerizing like a Tarkovsky movie. It reminded me of the dreamy, spiritual, and magical parts of "Ivan's Childhood". Then I had to think of "Mountains of Madness" by H.P. Lovecraft. And it ended like a survival movie. Beautiful symbiosis of sound and pictures. Very intense 8 minutes.
You can hear at the beginning the rough Version of "anywhere akut of this world" and für trumpets at the end of the Song Sound like the chorus of "xavier"... they used several elements of this piece for within the realm
This video brings to mind the question. Is the video a celebration to the wonders and beauty of Earth? Or is it a warning of what we are losing at a very fast rate?
Ever been to a natural history museum and looked at all the fossils of species that lived for millions of years but are no longer with us? We've been around for what, 50 thousands years? A blink of an eye in geologic time. Earth will do fine....us, not so much.
@@jonesy2111 The protagonist... you are hearing the music, you are the one who's living. you are the one thinking about the meaning of the song... this video is superb.
I forgot about this song until a couple of days ago. I found a mix tape that I had made of DCD and this was the first song on side A. I felt renewed while listening to it. Great song.
To me, this song conjures an ancient image of an army of a tribe of Celts staging on the battle field, and slowly begin marching toward an opposing army, perhaps a Roman garrison somewhere in northern Europe.
If you like this video, check "the Quatsi" trilogy by Gedfrey Reggio. The Best "Koyaanisquatsi".... AMAZING!!!!! If you want to see where you belong.... Enjoy!!!
man this is weird this track sounds a lot like some of my own music, made around the same era.. sometimes its like the universe just sends music our way and composers simultaneously pick up on it or something,
C'est lancinant, sournois, perfide, langoureux, une symbiose d'atmosphères insoutenables, le sursaut ostentatoire d'un évènement en approche, le danger tapis dans l'ombre, à l'affût d'un instant propice...
One of the rare official DCD videos, contained on the DVD with Toward the Within concert in Santa Monica, along with 3 CDs of the special edition. Somber, dark, unsettling, you name it! Still, all the beauty of DCD mystique lies there in absolut splendor.
Mystery, absolute, spaces where humanity will never reach. Music like this is the only thing that can touch this. Touch but not understand.
Greetings from Poland.
This song is so dark & deep, and always brings me into deep thinking, and reflection
Я из России,я Вас понимаю
I listened to this when I read military history books: Awesome “background score” to historical events’ images that were racing through my mind!

They should have put it in "Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun". This is just majestic.
I have to agree
OMG, didn't realize they did this in 1987. Might be my favorite DCD masterpiece. Would have been the perfect ending to Within The Realm.
My brain stops functioning when I listen to their music. Its too mesmerizing
My brain lights up with this music!
One of my favorite songs by DCD.
Black sun, Threshold, Cantara, Song of the Stars, How Fortunate the Man With None and this.
lonely is an eyesore, best compilation ever.
Yeah it was. It opened up a whole new world to me, as a teenager.
Strongly agree, got me through college back in the day
Upbeat. Pacey. It's got everything. The perfect antidote to Pharrell Williams' "Happy" .
exactly. you can't describe this masterpiece better.
I love that comment. xD
Having nails driven into my skill is preferable to listening to that accursed "song".
How to describe this music? Impossible. Just let it go and let it lead you
DCD is only music i can listen to while reading Lovecraft
Done the same! *Mystical experience* listen to Children Of The Sun while reading At The Mountains Of Madness and repeat.. "we are ancient, as ancient as the sun.. we came from the ocean, once our ancestral home..." It's the book's soundtrack to me!
Great combination!!!!
Goes great with Lustmord as well
I listened DCD when I read the X-Files
epic
Sublime tension and musical talent all distilled into this elixir of a song.
makes you believe in magical, mystical realms....There is nothing comparable to Dead Can Dance.
the composer arvo pärt has a similar power... check out "silouan's song" for example

What a trip

the best for ever of gothic ambiant music

Esse vídeo me dá uma sensação de nostalgia, de sonho. Parece imagens do subconsciente.
Still have my VHS copy of 'Lonely Is An Eyesore' that this is taken from.. (:
I still have my cassette
The absolute best music for psychedelics!
Thanks to God and 4AD for Dead Can Dance
thank u for posting this! this is from Lonely Is An Eyesore 4ad compilation as I recall and a total classic!
I remember seeing this first time on MTV in Ray Cokes Most Wanted. Amazing.
I have been looking for this song for 6 months.

sounds like the theme for some dark fantasy movie/show
It is very beautiful and very dark..

Absolute masterpiece, I think it was created for this lovely 4AD song compilation album. Anothet immortal DCD song, authentic, real, organic and deep.
Psycodelic!
Lancinant et crescendo
This song and video left an impression on me. Haunting and engaging.
This is WAY darker than a standard minor key. I'm guessing this is in Phrygian mode.
I hear this when my mom is furiously angry at me
@Eeyorewatch08 exactly i totally agree
It gets so much better and epic after 5:15 The marching of monsters, beasts, and zombies. Man, that pipe sure had some good stuff!!

unbelievable video for a fantastic trip of music.Great to have them back in 2012
it is very dark....which is not necessarily a bad thing.just that it implies mystery....very beautiful and dark indeed.
Today I got this LP Lonely Is An Eyesore 1987 release :) nice :)
Incredible video and sound, one of the bests that I ever seen.
I heard this playing while standing at the front lines of battle with Conan the Barbarian.
who made this video was it done for DCD who is the actor what is the story behind it?
Who portrayed the protagonist in this video?
Compare this to Swing Out Sister's "It's Better to travel." Eerie.
ua-cam.com/video/6Pd9dajGJYs/v-deo.html
very inspring
I read a lot of Robert E. Howard. This would be perfect for an army led by Conan on the march.
fantastic video! who directed it? looks very much in line with Nigel Grierson's work
I love this.. :)
💚🤍❤
Who played let's hear some music on same LP?
why did the band not like this video? (that's what i've read)
Cautivante.
this sounds a lot like "Anywhere Out of the World"
man this is weird this track sounds a lot like some of my own music, made around the same era.. sometimes its like the universe just sends music our way and composers simultaneously pick up on it or something,
It has something that reminds me of Philip Glass' "Akhnaten".
John Barry esque
Makes me think of the movie The Hill.
I'm not familiar with this song. Did they put it out as a single? Unreleased?

Why naked human?
Why not? The film is a celebration of the beauty of nature. The protagonist is having a wonderful time.
