He is, I was fortunate to meet him in 2002 at Warped Tour. He had just played guitar with No Use For A Name. He had a booth and was signing posters. Wasnt many people hanging around so I went up. Got a poster and he was super chill. Very nice and down to earth.
Anytime a fundraiser has been held for an injured motocrosser in the Bay Area Steve has always helped out if asked. Met him a few times very much a class guy. I'm not a skater but he's a great guy and a credit to skating and motocross.
This is so gnarly. I can't even imagine how difficult it was to skate back then - I use a 2 ft. launch ramp as a quarter pipe to learn stuff, before then taking it to the 5 ft. mini-ramp, and these dudes did all their tricks for the first time on full vert, which I don't skate, very likely never will.
i’ve always said “caba-yerial” cause I assumed it was pronounced like the spanish way, where the double L is a Y sound…i think I’ll just keep saying it that way I like the way it sounds and I doubt Steve Caballero would give a damn
partlycurrent True, when I first heard Steve’s last name pronounced with a typical English sounding double l rather than Spanish y sound I was shocked. Everyone I know just calls him Cab or Steve Cab.
This is what you get when a skateboarder that really loves skateboarding just because he loves it tell stories about the trick he invented. He tell story so cool and calm he sounded like way back in 30's by age just like how Mullen tell stories they sound younger they go back i the time.
I'm so glad that we can hear all these stories! Caballero is such an icon and influence on me that I'd probably be more star-struck if I got to meet him than even someone like Swizz Beatz or Kanye West.
How? Brians whole schtick is to act like a know-it-all wannabe professor. Not trying to shit on him either he just uses that persona to lob softballs to other comedians. I don't get that vibe from Chris at all.
For me right now, any 360 jump that pops of the end in which direction your going could be a (half) cab to me. The trick is so universal, that we can kinda change the original meaning. Like nollie bs 180 flip -> nollie bs halfcabflip, fakie fs full cab-> fakie fs 360 And so on. We should worry about the label that much. But sw 360 and Olli 360 can never be cabs
I always called tricks thay I didn't know the name a backside/frontside what the fuck. Because you'd see it and say whay the fuck? One day somebody said that's a strawberry milkshake and I thought what the fuck?
The trick name will always be "the Caballero" too me no offence to oldschoolers and steeve him self... But im with Chris's words chandge over time and language is fluid... and the new way sounds like rodio im just sayin. Pps i was born in 1981
Was Cab fakie ollieing before the coping, or just bonking his wheels off the coping? If you want to get technical, you can't do this trick on the street unless bonking your wheels off something.
Muska era hiding weed in your shoes nowadays the old skate kids are fully behind their kids' hobby. Don't get me wrong that's what we were pushing for as kids, but damn if we weren't in the time and place for raw skateboarding culture reading big brother, listening to the u.s bombs and no fucks given...
So, skaters can get away with a misnomer saying “full-cab”. But a bmxer using the term half-cab receives your ire? You would think you would feel honored that your name is being transcended to other sports and they are stoked on it. But you gripe, and that’s probably why they feel you hate them.
Steve caballero is one of the greatest people on the planet, absolute salt of the earth. I hope you guys touch on the whole braille thing, finally get these kooks out of skating, kids should look up to cab and crob.
Try telling someone it’s not a tre flip it’s a 360 flip. Especially when I say tre means three so it’s a 3 flip? And then explain the 360 part and the flip part and kids still say “it’s called tre flip”
Bmxers . Bunny hops are the double handed precursor to the Ollie. In the 70's you would approach a kerb at speed with your hands gripping the nose and tail and jump upwards onto the kerb. You had to count your fingers at the end of the day. Some vertriders used it in pools early on but it was outmoded by much cooler tricks using one or no hands like the original Gelfand ollies on vert and Steve's trick here.
This is the type of bull that destroys there sport , they talk about rollerblading BmX scooters and all other extreme sports but yet they wonder why there sport is always a roller Coaster ride with attracting fans, Grow up Steve, Change is good and the only way extreme sports will rise is by having love for everyone’s Art. Skateboarding kicked out rollerblading and it didn’t change shit , they are still in danger and nothing changed . Hate brings destruction of all extreme sports...
no one gives a crap if scootering, rollerblading, bmxering, snakeboarding, snowboarding, extreme dildo inserting or whatever gets tossed into the trash forever, its all the same crap. skateboarding will always remain and the fads will get flushed.
Sorry but nollie cab is legit. I guarantee you the first person to ever do one thought it was a nollie cab and they should be the ones to decide the name. He can't remove his name from it just because he didn't do one. He didn't do the frontside cab either but he says that is legit. I don't call them nollie cabs anymore but I still think the name is correct.
Cab is such a likable dude! Always seemed like he would be just as cool in person

Steve caballero is truly a skateboarding treasure...so much class and so much style
He is so well-articulated a joy to listen
Cab is such an OG with class. Solid dude.
80's Skating was so cool... This was my era

I love the balance he strikes on the history of skateboarding. Right in between "Here's why you're wrong" and "I don't care we good brother skate on."
Much respect to Cab a true pro in every way 1 Love to a real O.G. Always smiling & styling !
The trick he invented is named after him, and in his humbleness didn’t call it what it was because it felt weird. True meaning of humble.

I really like the fact that they always custom decorate for the skater that's coming in for the interview...... and Cab is one of my heroes 🤙💯🤙

Doji Satchivi totally legit but that’s funny
Honestly, Steve doesn't even pronounce his last name "the correct Spanish way". So it really doesn't matter that much :D
In México we call it That way Ca Ba Lle Rial - Sounding with a Y or a 180 Pivot

I started the half nelson last year. lol. disaster revert(2 180's). full nelson disaster revert. (360 total rotation).
Steve is so fucking cool
it's like listening to your favorite rad uncle , viva CABALLERO !! LEGEND !!
Natas rules!! 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Respect and love
Imagine a variation of your trick that you can’t do and it’s still named after you.
Any other non-skaters love this kinda stuff as much as I do? Caballero has some great stories.
Cab is so god damned cool
This podcast made me sub because this is awesome. Love it.
Cab and Folmer... Fuck Yes
Chris Roberts is the Brian Callen of skateboarding
Sort of but not really. Callen is always full of shit and trying to hard to be liked and is generally unbearable to watch and listen to

caballerial is one of my favourite tricks ! and I also dont like the term full-cab haha
Cab inspired me!
cab is the best !!!
Lol tried to watch this clip but couldn't get past the first 30 seconds xD xD
legend
Can someone tell me the difference between a cab and a 360?
A Caballerial is a fakie backside 360. It’s just a very specific kind of 360.
I always called tricks thay I didn't know the name a backside/frontside what the fuck. Because you'd see it and say whay the fuck? One day somebody said that's a strawberry milkshake and I thought what the fuck?
YES Half Cab Hop YES
nothing really against BMXers, but it’s fair daft that they use the term ‘nollie’-especially when ‘funny hop’ (front bunny hop) was right there
Now you should invite Staab. Be sick Also he invented the Nollie.
The trick name will always be "the Caballero" too me no offence to oldschoolers and steeve him self... But im with Chris's words chandge over time and language is fluid... and the new way sounds like rodio im just sayin. Pps i was born in 1981

he bonks his wheels off coping, thats how you ollie. the ollie was invented in bowls and ramps and thats what they did.
Nollie 360s are Switch Cabs
Fight me.
Is that steve caballero or pat smear?
I feel it
Synonymous
Just think of it as caballero mixed with Arial
Aerial*
More Cab….
I Wana believe Steve is wearing a magic school bus shirt..
It's prolly not- but that'd be rad
I always thought full cabs and half cabs were only done backside! Glad you asked Kelly.
A cab is already full. There’s really no need to call it a full cab. It’s redundant.
@@heelturnsface I get that. Almost wrote just cab too but then decided to match syllables.
@@heelturnsface I could do switch FULL cabs, but could never do them in my regular stance. FULL cabs are fun to do though.
Everything is taken from skateboarding. The style, the clothes. Pop culture runs downstream from skateboarding.

Can any of these people do a 900?
Chris Roberts famously did a Switch Flip Switch Manny to 900 at the X Games.
@@buckodonnghaile4309 that was dope
Chris Roberts still does not know the name of this trick or how to pronounce it apparently, 😆.

natran21 what??! Skaters don’t feel offended by that at all, you can name tricks however you want
Full cab is lame. Doing a cab implies that it’s already full.
The key word was ollie. He's not hating, he's skating.
he's not hating or ireful, he's just saying it's a different trick and should have its own name -- he even said he wishes he could take credit.
damn so the full cab was inspired from vert skating.... insane.
It’s just a cab. Doing a three implies that it’s already full. Shit’s annoying af.
When can we expect the Half Crob
Steve caballero is one of the greatest people on the planet, absolute salt of the earth. I hope you guys touch on the whole braille thing, finally get these kooks out of skating, kids should look up to cab and crob.

Its all pronounced wrong. Its gentleman. Caballero double LL sounds "ye" pronounced Cabayeâro.
you pronounce it the way the legend says it himself.
Try telling someone it’s not a tre flip it’s a 360 flip. Especially when I say tre means three so it’s a 3 flip? And then explain the 360 part and the flip part and kids still say “it’s called tre flip”
Is that a word?
Cmon Chris get the name right at least
Let bikers use the cab name. Ollies, bunny hops, whatever
? what are you talking about
Bmxers . Bunny hops are the double handed precursor to the Ollie. In the 70's you would approach a kerb at speed with your hands gripping the nose and tail and jump upwards onto the kerb. You had to count your fingers at the end of the day.

I don't see the logic. BMXers don't have fs and bs so calling something a Cab doesn't really make sense to me.
partlycurrent cabs can be both ways. It was also their idea so must make sense to them
Your just doing a half bunny hop
A cabalariol on very you land regular on street you land fakey so I say full can for street and cabalariol for very

What would Rodney Mullen call it?
Isn’t a Nollie BS 360 called a Helipop?
