    Earlier this year my family and I embarked on an adventure we call Slow Travel. Instead of traveling at a fast pace, we stayed in each place for weeks at a time.
    In this video we explore a little bit of the Wicklow Mountains, and the wonderous Fore Abbey in County Meath, Ireland.
    This place is spectacular! Definitely visit if you ever get the chance!

      Unfortunately many of my ancestors were slaughtering on this land. For being pagan or Celtic. she feels all the Lost Souls.

      You should come to the Hill of Uischneach, the ancient centre of pagan Ireland. We still hold festivals there celebrating change of season, thankful for harvests and then Samhain. Amazing

    I live about 15 mins from here. Beautiful spot and great day out. On a nice day have a picnic. You can walk up the hill near the hermit chapel. But watch out for cows, sometimes they are in a different field. Don't go too close to the rock exposure atop of the hill as rocks can fall on your lovely little head. The town is quaint, with a nice pub and cafe.

    Wow!! Leah xxx That was the best adventure video yet!!! there are so many ancient Abbeys, Churches & Castles in The British Isles. You have only seen the tip of the iceburg so to speak. Many Castles lay in ruins to varying degree of crumbling. But there are many many more 99% in tact.....Hope You Will Come Back Sometime to Explore to your hearts content XXX Love to all Thanks for sharing........God Bless The whole Family xxx

    There are lots of these over the coasts of England, Scotland and Ireland. There were so many attacks by vikings they built monasteries as fortresses. There is even one on an island on the south coast of England which was used by British scientists during ww2 to develop radar. The walls were so thick it repelled multiple bombing raids by the Germans!

      Most of the abbeys and monasteries in Ireland were ransacked or destroyed by Henry VIII, Elizabeth I or Cromwell. There is a surviving Franciscan Friary from the 13th century not far from here in Multyfarnham. It is still functioning, with a few old monks and priests, who are extremely friendly. The old church is amazing. It is also close to the beautiful Lough Derravaragh.

    I doubt the monks buit it personal probably made the people or slaves do most of the work while they prayed and ate kidney pie

    • @Leahmchenry
      @Leahmchenry  5 років тому +4

      Nope it was really the monks. They were frequently attacked so that's why Fore Abbey was also a fortress, meant to keep attackers out.
