Poor Isabelle has never heard of VPN's. Also Seeing as most of the porn sites are hosted in the US or elsewhere in Europe the impact this will have is laughable-as was pointed out years ago when the Tories last tried this wheeze.
There are a lot of younger people who have the nous to hack into the computer on the presenter's desk, let alone bypass blocks on anything on the Internet. I've been involved with computers since the mid-1980s, and it's simplicity itself to get around so-called blocks.
@Ralph Reilly But the savvy young ones can. There's even free software online and tutorials on how to do it if you choose to have a go. (Hacking computers is, of course, illegal so my advice is don't go there.)
This should be top comment. If you're giving your child free access to the internet, there is nothing you can do to stop them seeking out anything that makes them curious. The parents should protect their child, the government shouldnt be doing it for them.
Plus the fact there are literally porn accounts on Twitter, and all you need to do is click that you agree to view the profile when it asks. Literally just one click
I agree there should be something to limit risk of children accessing these sites. But it shouldn't come at the cost of tens of millions of users privacy.
Age verification on youtube and other social media has proven to be a failure. UK however, not to be outdone in its incompetence, seeks to roll this out nationwide. I hope this censorship gets quashed.
The problem isn’t the porn or internet it’s the man himself committing these so called fantasies in violent ways. Blame culture at its most ridiculous.
I've always said if you're a parent it should be your responsibility what your child does online. It should also be down to the ISP's to provide information on how to block content from the router level. All devices have a parental control, parents just don't use or unaware of. Tech companies like Microsoft even have a service where you can add a childs account to yours, so you can control what they need a Microsoft Account for. There is lots of stuff in place, but sadly the tech companies don't promote it enough, so the Government has to step in and be the parent.
It's not easy it is trivial. There are many ways round these things, they can't force users in other countries to be puritan separatists - once that's a thing you're in deep water. There are multitude other problems, a HUGE one being privacy, but the risk of forcing people into the rabbit hole that is networks like ToR where they'll find *entirely* different content. The solution to this is simple: a strong reminder, with fines for parents, that the internet is not your babysitter - or alternatively just grow up and get over it. You can police the wider public internet, it is possible - you just need to get basically every country on the planet to agree to it and to enforce it with the same standards. How's that going so far with say, I don't know something easy like piracy or terrorism?
Out of interest, it would be interesting to know when Martin Daubney spoke with those 45,000 teenagers, if he'd asked them if they had actively searched for porn on-line or if by some astonishing co-incidence not one of them had and yet, for some unfathomable reason, a pornographic image suddenly popped onto their computer screens from out of nowhere. At least, I'm assuming that was their excuse when Mum opened their bedroom door without warning and caught them unawares. 'Honestly, Mum, I was looking for background info on the Wars of the Roses and this came up instead. I don't know how it got there...' Or maybe Dad or Mum, forgot to deploy incognito mode or delete their browsing history and junior just happened to press the wrong key...
How do you know how to breathe or walk? It’s as easy as that. VPN’s, foreign sites etc so it’s incredibly easy. All bills like this do is show that politicians have absolutely no clue on how the internet works.

We need LESS government regulations, NOT more. This bill should NEVER become a bill.
Porn and Sex Trafficking go hand in hand though !
The only people this is really going to affect are somewhat tech-clueless, lonely, older men, who are persecuted enough and should be left alone.

@Burning Union Jacks I'm afraid any teenager or younger in the UK could do it in seconds.
That’s what parents are for.

@@Liamneedham29Why shouldn’t the government? They do the same thing with gambling websites.
Young people will still be able to get on to online porn sites most are computer savvy to the highest level.

VPN
Forget age restrictions, just ban porn altogether
How about you just don’t watch it and leave the rest of us to enjoy freedom of choice.
Or take better care of your kids and make sure they're on safe websites. Not hard.
