My mom was on Body Wars back in 1990, after the ride she felt super sick...ended up finding out she was pregnant with me. Everytime I visit I stare at the pavilion knowing that's where knowledge of my existence began.
I loved Body Wars! It reminded me of some of the episodes of cartoons that I used to watch that had a similar plot. Like Captain Planet, the episode where they go inside Kwame.
I think your existence began with a very different moment, being your dad's sperm winding its way through her egg wall. And no, Disney had nothing to do with it .
I find it interesting how the imagineers seem to either have a severe case of creative drought, or higer ups have no vision. They let sizable chunks of the park literally die

A couple years ago, I begged my family to take me to Epcot during the food & wine festival for my birthday. The flowers were pretty, but I was there for one thing and one thing only: what might be my only chance to get inside the beautiful golden dome. When I got there and, for the first time ever the garden wasn’t roped off, I RAN inside there and looked at every little remaining detail. It was incredible. I got a picture under the arches for Body Wars (still beautiful) and it was one of the happiest moments of my life. I wish so much I could have seen more, but I am so incredibly happy that I got to see it at all. For those who haven’t, I still think it’s the most beautiful building in all of Epcot. Fun fact: I used to work at Epcot in a position called "Epcot East". Basically I did roving as security for the entire left side, all the way from the entrance to the Mexico pavilion. One of my favorite things to do was explore the Wonders of Life building. Mind you, I had no idea of what used to be there; because the building was mostly used for storage at this time. So anyways, I came across this weird little area with tile floors, and walls. And what I knew used to be a que line. But it was very run down and the posters that were on the wall were faded, cracked, and dilapidated. When I first went in I thought I had stumbled on some sort of genetic testing center or something! 😂 But nope! It was the old Journey into the Human body/Body wars ride. Funny enough, they had the old TVs still on the walls, and two of them were even still on!! It was a very interesting experience. Turns out, they decided to shut down that ride. Took the ride cars out of it, gave em an update, and Voila! They made the Star Wars ride in Hollywood Studios. The que line is/was identical. The cars are identical. Even the set up is identical. So just remember when you ride the old Star Wars ride in Hollywood Studios, that you're quite literally in a piece of history from another park. Another fun story; I ran into another Cast member in there one time, and he had mentioned something about a freaky animatronic who was still in the building. So of course I had to go find that! Went through some twists and turns and pretty much immediately found it. Suffice it to say, it was truly creepy. I wish I'd of taken a picture because it was in a dark room. With a spotlight on the animatronic; and he sat up in his little seat on the robo-arm thing. When I got closer to it I noticed that the synthetic hand-skin had rotted away, so his metal skeleton was exposed. Basically had robo-hands but the rest was how he appeared when he was in service. That same year somebody stole his jacket I heard! This was all 2016-2018, so it was actually really recent. Right before, and during the construction of the Guardians ride!!
Star Tours and Body Wars used the same ATLAS simulators, they took out the Body Wars simulators to use for parts for the Star Tours simulators that have been running since 1989. Star Tours received a major update in 2011 but they continue to use the same ATLAS simulators with improved video displays, audio, and animatronics.

Funny story. My parents took me here when I was in elementary school (early 2000’s). We’ve been to Disney before, but we never really visited this place too much. One day they decided to kill some time while we waited for our fast pass time for Test Track, and they took me in to ‘The Making of Me’. We had been to Body Wars before, but never this show. So, they innocently figured it was something new. But, right before we went in, I’ll never forget my mom asking my dad verbatim, “Do you think they show....?” My dad responded adamantly, “I doubt it...” Long story short, they showed exactly how a baby was made and I was traumatized by some of the specific language they used to describe the actions. Not to mention the crazy scenes. Knowing my parents did this ruined my whole day. My parents felt so bad. Anyway, that’s how I learned about the birds and the bees. I’m now 28 and I’ll never forget that day.
The legendary Wonders of Life Pavilion. The nostalgia my parents get talking about the Body Wars ride is always fun to listen to. I kinda hope it gets a reboot of sorts.
2005 was the last time I visited The Wonders of Life. I made my husband watch “The Making of Me,” and while waiting for it to start, I overheard one cast member tell another that she had never seen the place so busy before! The pavilion was slammed! It was essentially as busy as it was in the late 80s/early 90s when we went.
I loved going to Epcot as a kid in the late '80s and early '90s. Cranium Command was always a favorite. I only went on Body Wars once, because my mom was one of the people who was made nauseous by it. Horizons was great too; it had this cool hidden lounge upstairs that we always got to hang out in because my dad's employer was affiliated with the pavilion's sponsor (GE, I think). Taking a break in the A/C up there on a hot Florida summer's day was a treat. In the late '90s I actually lived in Orlando for a time and had an annual pass to WDW so I could just waltz over to Epcot for dinner or whatever (in those days you could actually just walk into many restaurants on Disney property without having made a reservation a year before). Test Track had just opened and I would go over and ride it all the time. Back then it was still based around a new vehicle testing theme, and when you got out on the high speed loop the V8 sound effects were like sweet music. Gas was 98 cents a gallon, I had a new Pontiac Trans Am and everything was all right in the world; at least, it felt like it was when you were at Disney World. Thanks for stirring my memories of it all! I am now officially old.
I went there on 3 or 4 different years as a kid from the mid 80 to early 90s and it was the coolest place. Loved both Cranium Command and Body Wars, which was packed. EPCOT as a whole was a much different place back then - all about discovery, science, tech and the coming techno-utopia. I get that it’s next to impossible to keep such a place up to date and still be profitable, so having it even for a few of my formative years was special.
Thanks so much Jake! I have always wondered about this! I remember going their when I was a kid. I really do miss it! I can't express my gratitude enough!
I still think it is kinda awesome how my family were one of the last people in the Wonders of Life area. We use to go to Disney World for Thanksgiving week and the week after that. In 2006 we heard that the Wonders of Life was going to open for the Christmas season. We never got a chance to go into it before (as the last time we went was in 1989) so it was crazy how 90s and quiet it was. They had no advertisement for it and we only found out about it from the web. It felt so weird being in the area. Of course my dad took so many pictures since we knew it might be the last time we would be in there.
They caught the big mouthed idiot mentioned in this video selling Haunted Mansion stuff and Buzzy's clothes. But, Buzzy's clothes were stolen a few months before the whole Buzzy was stolen. Buzzy hasn't been found. We don't know for sure it was him.
I first went to WDW as a kid in 1992. Loved it. I didn't get back until 2012 and by that stage Epcot, the park that made the strongest impression on me, was in a seriously sorry state compared to what I remembered. World showcase wasn't too bad, but Future world had been ravaged by budget cuts, closures, dumbing down and weird additions that were completely thematically inconsistent with the parks original mission. Even the latest plans (probably mostly shelved now) didn't get back to what made the original idea so unique.
I always liked this pavilion. My family still quotes Cranium Commando. It's kind of sad how Disney has just changed EPCOT into nothing more than just another theme park.
i was only 7 when the pavilion closed, and despite having been to disney world a couple times prior, i had never been in there myself. however there has always been something about the place that was fascinating to me. i've always been interested in lost/abandoned stuff like this, especially with disney. i love reading about it and watching urban exploration of this place specifically. something about it is alluring and fascinating to me.
The motion from Body Wars made my brother sick and he's never been able to go on a simulator since (14 years and counting) and now I've found out we were some of the last people to go on it, as we went to Disney New years 2006/2007.
I agree, i went on a couple simulators n almost hurled. Even this one geared tward kids at a museum n science center. I closed my eyes , held on. When it was over I got out n ran for the bathroom. Wife said " you get sick?" " yeah i boofed in the sink" " ew why the sink?" "Im not sticking my face in a place that has probably had a million butts on it , ok? I rinsed it out if youre worried"

The making of me is probably the oddest attraction Disney world has had. I mean who goes to Disney world to watch an educational film about human reproduction with animated talking sperm and Martin Short? Like was that how many parents in Orlando at the time thought their kids the birds and the bees?
Eh, I can see my parents doing that. It wouldn't have been that much different from going to the Science center and seeing the different stages of a baby in the womb. And my Mom did work at a hospital so she would've been quick to have answered any questions my twin sis and I had. And this is coming from someone who grew up going in the 2000's.
Remember, this is Florida lol. Anything is possible there. Also, people weren't as sensitive back then. It was more of an open topic. Amazing how this generation gets so shocked about every little thing.
@@DwightLivesMatter True, it's more the fact why on your Disney vacation would you watch an eduction film about human reproduction ? Insanely good Docu to say the least, about the one pavilion I saw getting completed, but never got to experience. In August 1989, they were hyping the hell out of it during the Monorail spiel on the EPCOT circuit, as well as lots of pre-opening signs and pictures for the ride. I regret not having a chance to ride it sadly. BTW: The EPCOT Promotional film used in this... where and how can the entire thing be viewed/purchased??? I've found the snippets on-line from various places, but not in its entirety. That would truly be something to behold.
Seems like Disney is sorta finally doing something about/with their abandoned/defunct attractions. Wonder what they’ll do about Discovery Island in the future.
I have endosomatophilia, so Body Wars was my jam. I just want to know who you're inside in the ride. They're at a distance because it was to be imagined as your own body, but I hope it's a man, because all of the episodes of cartoons with this plot that I watched as a kid used male hosts. The one that I remember using a female host (Magic School Bus "Makes a Stink" episode in which the bus goes into the body of Janet) was really gross, so that turned me off of female hosts, even if I am bi. So yeah...
5:03 I saw "The Making of Me" when I was like 11 in the late 90s. I remember on my way into the theater a boy screamed at the top of his lungs, "I DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHERE BABIES COME FROM" or something very similar.
Sad seeing a lot of Disney rides/attractions closing. I will never forget going to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot with my Grandpa back in the 80's. He brought his RV up to Ohio and took us all back down to Florida where he lived. So Disney world will always be special to me. I'm wondering how long the parks will remain open. It's just a matter of time before people stop going. Prices are just getting way out of hand.

Maybe it's changed but when I was a kid, nearly all of Epcot's "rides" were sponsored, so you'd end up sitting in a slow moving exhibit that told you how important oil is and why Exxon is so great. It was completely bizarre.

In all seriousness, it is disappointing that Disney isn't doing original things anymore. I'm not even a big fan of Disney, but I do like the original, unique aesthetics in the parks more than the IP stuff.
I agree, I have such fond memories of visiting Epcot as a child/younger person and miss some of the things that aren't there anymore. Especially the changes to the world showcase (last time I was there the Norway ride was under construction to become the frozen ride and the Canada film had gotten some Disney IP updates). I hate seeing it change, but I know it probably has to.
At least they’re finally doing something meaningful with that building and not just as a festival storage centre.
Exactly
"Meaningful" is debateable...
The whole very top level of that building is used for offices for various reasons. Way more than just festival storage.
@@BrightSunFilms Can you do a "Cancelled" episode of the Titanic 2? Please blue Star line said it would come in 2018 then 2019 then 2020 and yet still no Titanic 2 can you do an episode on it please
They were. But unfortunately due to Disney's downturn and finances from covid, The plan to redevelopment is currently on hold... Indefinitely. 🤷
But nope!
I remember as a kid actually going on the body wars ride. It was my favorite
I guess you didn't watch the video...he talks about the theft. The guy was caught, he sold the clothes to an NBA player.
@@dontmesswiththeman this makes sense. I saw body wars in the late 90s and came back on Star Wars weekend in 2015, I thought both rides looked familiar.

I'll always have fond memories of visiting epcot in the early 90s when I had a broken leg so we were allowed to get a wheelchair at Epcot and skip EVERY. SINGLE. LINE. It was my greatest park visit from my Floridian childhood. I'll never forget seeing that huge line for Spaceship Earth and my sister wheeling me into the secret handicap access door to skip that line. I felt like a crippled Louis XVI.

It would be cool for the Bankrupt series to cover about the bankrupt shipping company, Hanjin Shipping. One of the largest container shipping companies in the world and offered bulk and container services. They had owned almost 100 container vessels and had 6,000 employees and transported cargo to countries that had notable companies such as Nike. Until it's unexpected bankruptcy in 2017.

But, right before we went in, I’ll never forget my mom asking my dad verbatim, “Do you think they show....?” My dad responded adamantly, “I doubt it...”
Long story short, they showed exactly how a baby was made and I was traumatized by some of the specific language they used to describe the actions.
I want to see a Marvel retheme where Ant-Man and The Wasp go inside The Falcon (Sam Wilson.) That way, it can have an IP and still be educational.
It makes sense. Jake was Buzzy all along
Hello
Thank you Kim Jong Un
Hello Kim jong un
Hey buddy!
Disney wanting sponsors for rides is just garbage idea
Sounds amazing! What fantastic memories.
Bill from Test Track was played by John Higgins, who was also the voice of Mentok on Harvey Birdman.
The Wonders of Life arch can now be seen on the MK toll entrance. You're welcome for that
I thought you’re pfp was bob odenkirk, then Kevin Costner, then I read your username and realized, it was Michael Eisner
Are you really him!
THANKS, MIKEY!
Of course my dad took so many pictures since we knew it might be the last time we would be in there.
im so glad i got to go to epcot in the late 90s early 2000s. it was a magical time for disney world.
I went in 2006. I was probably one of the last people to go on Body Wars, lmao!
How the hell does someone smuggle a big ass animatronic out of the park?! 😂😂😂

December 2018 was an inside job.
That simulator was definitely violent, I always came off sick and I had to ride the ride as part of a school project.
I agree, i went on a couple simulators n almost hurled. Even this one geared tward kids at a museum n science center. I closed my eyes , held on. When it was over I got out n ran for the bathroom. Wife said " you get sick?"
" yeah i boofed in the sink"
" ew why the sink?"
"Im not sticking my face in a place that has probably had a million butts on it , ok? I rinsed it out if youre worried"
I LOVED the ride, because I'm into the human body and all that. The motion never made me sick. I guess I have a strong stomach.
Last time I was this early, Figment wasn’t just my imagination.
It’s Friday and a new Abandoned episode from Bright Sun Films...and it’s about Walt Disney World. I’m in heaven!!!

i vividly remember going to Wonders of Life and Body Wars in early 92, it had the longest wait at the time, but we definetly thought is was cool!
I always wanted to see another look at this topic, Great Video!
The making of me is probably the oddest attraction Disney world has had. I mean who goes to Disney world to watch an educational film about human reproduction with animated talking sperm and Martin Short?
Like was that how many parents in Orlando at the time thought their kids the birds and the bees?
The 80's were a different time
Eh, I can see my parents doing that. It wouldn't have been that much different from going to the Science center and seeing the different stages of a baby in the womb. And my Mom did work at a hospital so she would've been quick to have answered any questions my twin sis and I had. And this is coming from someone who grew up going in the 2000's.
I can just imagine that being so awkward
Remember, this is Florida lol. Anything is possible there. Also, people weren't as sensitive back then. It was more of an open topic. Amazing how this generation gets so shocked about every little thing.
@@DwightLivesMatter True, it's more the fact why on your Disney vacation would you watch an eduction film about human reproduction ? Especially since Body wars next door(while educational )was still a thrill ride.
Like It seems like something would make for grade schools, like they did with The Story of Menstruation or Poohs great school bus adventure
As a biologist, I want to say that this would be a fantastic way to learn about the human body!! I’m sad it’s gone
Its always a good day when you upload ^_^
Sad seeing a lot of Disney rides/attractions closing. I will never forget going to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot with my Grandpa back in the 80's. He brought his RV up to Ohio and took us all back down to Florida where he lived. So Disney world will always be special to me. I'm wondering how long the parks will remain open. It's just a matter of time before people stop going. Prices are just getting way out of hand.

The reason the guy gets restrained for grabbing his phone is because he was shown a picture of his car at the location of the theft and he said "How bout I come back with my lawyer." My favorite thing about Buzzy going missing is that I was traveling for Christmas, had just landed and gotten to my hotel, and saw this on Twitter. For the last 2 years, I've wondered if this was something my jet-lagged brain made up until I google it
As always, a well researched and put together project. Nice work.
Jake I wanna see those postcards designs on t shirts those would look sooooo clean definitely would cop!
I visited this pavilion as a nine-year-old kid in 1990. I remember thinking it was really cool to zoom down an IMAX bloodstream from the perspective of a blood cell on the “Body Wars” ride.
I like to think up a parody of Body Wars where it's Swayzak as Captain Braddock, Sara as Dr. Lair, Moltar as Mission Control, and TOM as the patient (or as I call him, Clint.) In case you didn't know, those are all Toonami characters in the roles. Toonami was a block on Cartoon Network that I adored as a kid.
I went to Disney last year and Epcot was definitely the best park in my opinion 😃
Thanks for the video, Abandoned. Just crazy that it takes so much to keep these attractions going.
