Seriously, my dad worked as MHTAS a few times and they are massively underpaid for what’s expected of them. His more recent job, he was taking care of not adults but more towards later teens but they’re just as dangerous to work with. He got thrown, punched, kicked and bitten quite few times and he’s not a small dude. He’s 6,3” and 280lbs. But they were still able to toss him and he’s considered experienced in that field. He actually had to get his top teeth pulled out because he got punched so hard, it literally made a few of his teeth misaligned. He doesn’t dislike the jobs, in fact he enjoys getting to know them and trying to make their lives better. He’s often ends up as their favorite aide but the violent episodes really just happen no matter how much they like you and they happen fairly too often for people to stay in a job that pay only slightly higher than minimum wage. He even said that if we (me and my siblings) are willing to get punched, kicked, or thrown then we might as well try our hand in a combat sport rather than work MHTAS.
I've never worked in one but was a patient for a few days back in 1987. Took 80 blood pressure pills that belonged to my then hubby. So was taken to the hospital where they gave me charcoal and the Dr baker acted me. The psyhiatrist gave me lots of advice that I adhere to and follow to this day. He also put me on antidepressants. Funny thing is? I'm now on blood pressure pills by my cardiologist. Along with a bunch of other dr prescribed meds for various health issues.
