I just went down the rabbit hole that is UA-cam, and getting a ten second music theory lesson from Watsky was probably the best thing that happened today
I think it's great how you're so open and honest, I think your opinion about swearing is great too, I have no problem with people swearing cause after all, they're just words
I really appreciated your take on showing you are a technician and transitioning into being able to connect with an audience. Also your take on showing your true self in your art form is spot on. Highly important for any artist. Fantastic. ~Katy
The awesome thing about you is that you are so real about everything. You're straight up and honest and thats a really respectable thing. You're music is addicting and lyrically genius. Keep it up Watsky!
I am so excited that you are going to be in my area for like 4 shows in a row. I will be there for all of them. You are, in my opinion, one of the most intelligent talents on youtube and in general.
I love your line "If I just get 15 minutes I'm gonna stay myself And when that 16th minute comes then I won't hate myself" in your 4AM Monday song... You're awesome man!
Man, im a drummer too, and i love how i can understand everything you just said. i smoke as well every now and again, just gotta keep it on the downlow. please come to Michigan, your my favorite music artist and i would love to see you live
It's cool to watch your vlogs, because it's like we're all sitting in on a really chill interview. Great to see a tidbit of your life outside of the studio. See you on Twitter.
I think the reason why you can rap the way you rap(how fast) is because you are a drummer and you understand the 1 e and a 2 e. You understand where you need to put your words at (if that makes any sense) I've read percussion music before and you have to count very carefully understand all of the off beats. I'm a musician, so I read sheet music daily, so I understand this. I can't wait to see you on the 22nd of Oct In Colorado! I hope all is well with your epilepsy and I hope you have an amazing tour. Sincerely , Samantha Earp
I love what you said about the language not being aggressive/offensive unless used in an offensive way. To me, words are just words, sounds you weave into sentences, and it's the implications and conceptions we put into them that give them that power over us. I can't remember how many times I've had that conversation with other people and they just don't get it, refuse to listen. It's nice to see someone who actually understands.
Ha ha I'm glad to know there is someone else out there who didn't drink in high school or drank much during university. Mad love from one who was the DD to another. Kept up the honesty and the amazing music.
No matter what, I will always be a fan of Watsky. I have been a fan now ever sense his first video....When I met him, he was one of the sweetest people! Nothing will change my opinion about Watsky, He is never disappointing. I have always been a huge fan, and always plan to be in the future!
I have mad respect for you. You are a very intelligent human being. You always have something new to teach me every time you speak or rap. Keep doing what you're doing.
Wow, these are the only vlogs I actually watch to hear what he has to say and not just because it is funny, he explains himself and his views very clearly and I think its pretty rare to see this on youtube
Agreed, stay honest with yourself. I can relate to alot of your song lyrics, that's one of the many reasons I love your music. ALSO, please perform in Canada in the future? :D
I really admire George, he's so articulate, and faithful to his convictions. He could have cut corners and made a pile of money fast and dirty by selling out. Instead he shows real character. His parents must be really very proud of him! This video shows that he's a technician when it comes to his art. It's not just a gimmick for him to get views on UA-cam.
If you care, Picasso painted in the cubist style. It uses multiple perspectives in the same painting (like draw a woman from the front, and the profile in the same face) to give the illusion of the passage of time in a still picture.
Dude your such an insperation, i never knew i had what it takes to rap fast, but when your pale kid raps fast video came out i loved it, i would listen to it over and over untill it got to the point were i was singing along at the same pace and i just want to let you know your an insperation, i love everything you do i have memorized all of your songs, just keep doing this because i love it. And you should do another fast rap soon! i like trying to learn new songs. thankyou man
Love that you actually explained the measure system... have you ever looked at rapping to non-standard (non 4/4 time) beats? Maybe something funky like 6/4? You should also look at Outsider, a Korean rapper whose speed you might enjoy
dude i feel like im a spitting image of your personality i drum write poetry and your my idol when i think of poetry and how to write it i think of it like a drum beat or fill
Since I found your music online, I can't get enough of it! What attracts me is the personality and intelligence that shine through. It's apparent that you put a lot of thought you put into your lyrics and you're very funny too. I really appreciate the political opinions. I don't know of another rapper who shows more of themselves through their music. =) Hope you come to Connecticut eventually!
I have a lot of respect for you after watching this. Very informative as well. I am also a percussionist and rapper, and never thought to look at writing my verses in a more "musical" type of way I guess I'll call it.
I'm really glad there's a rapper like you that doesn't rap about the typical hip hop subject matter. I'm so sick of hearing about money, sex, drugs, guns, etc. Thanks for being unique!
Watsky is by far one of the most intelligent and inspirational rappers of today. Of course this is just my opinion however i believe he has provided sufficient evidence to back this claim whether its his poetry, his music, or his Vblogs George Watsky always brings new thought to mind and I'm very impressed by his work (granted I'm not anyone important so that may not be worth much lol). I guess what I'm trying to say is that Watsky is the rapper we need too much of this genre has been taken over by money, fame, and sex and while yes those things may be fun to listen to every now and then it is my honest opinion that the overuse of these topics from popular rappers or labels that kids hear everywhere is whats causing Rap music in general to become so...well terrible. So thank you Watsky i agree with you on many of your topics and I appreciate you doing what you have for a genre I thought had nothing left to offer rap/rapping should be fun and meaningful that's how i see it and that's what you deliver so Thank You.
Damn I've been love in watsky since like his first album came out how did I never find this video. His a very good teacher. Because 90 percent of "rappers" now adays dont get this real musicians get that. Edit and oh and man so glad he is going where he is going in his career. :)
actually not all measures are only have 4 beats. if the time signature that your playing/rapping in is like 3/4 then there are 3 quarter notes in a measure or if you are in like 6/8 then you will have two sets of eighth note triplets. counted 1-la-li 2-la-li. so really there is one whole per measure that can then be divided in to several divisions called "the Beat" which can then be further divided in more notes such as 16th or 32nds. If the beat is not defined as a 16th or 32nd notes.
Noticed that there is no plans for Oregon on your tour and looks like you never have had a show up here, whats up? Would love to see you up here man!! Make it happen!
I hate trying to explain different notes and time signatures and tempos to people. It seems like whenever I mention sixteenth or eigth notes to someone they look at me like a deer caught in headlights. I've played the violin for eight years and people are always like "How can you read music like that? It looks so confusing! I could never learn how!" etcetera, etcetera. I'm kinda ranting but I'm glad that you could explain the fast rapping like that. It makes a lot more sense to me.
Would you consider doing a rap battle in any of the leagues that are out now: GrindTime, KOTD, URL, DontFlop, GotBeef, etc.? And who would be your ideal opponent, or someone you would like to battle?
Just found out about you (via John Green...I'm a nerd, whatever) and you're kind of great, man. You said a lot of things in here that I strongly agree with but have been having trouble articulating. Keep doing what you're doing, I think it's pretty awesome.
when i was in the drumline we counted our 16th notes as hug-uh-dug-uh and the piano teacher i had always laughed cuz when i had to play my parts i would still count out the 16th notes as hug-uh-duh-uh instead of one-e-and-uh
You're coming to WI, which is exciting and I'll travel to see you if I can but it would be fabulous if you could come to Madison sometime...it's pretty much the best city in the state :)
I have a question for you Watsky. What's your opinion on Jay-Z? Is he one of the rappers you like to listen to? I know he doesn't rap fast but he has a great flow. Hope you answer this in the future !
well you can use 16th notes on a lower tempo, or you can jack up the tempo and keep the 16th note phrase... so you can in fact go faster and still keep 16th note timing, you just need to up the tempo. the note timing (1/4, 1/16, ect) is different from tempo (60 bpm, 120 bpm, ect.) so youre not exactly correct watsky. but im sure youre right in that there isnt much room to go any faster without it being gibberish.
It's funny, because as a drummer, I understood everything he said when describing the fast rapping stuff. Who knew so much rapping is revolved around percussion?
Watsky, you absolute legend. Fair play on sticking to your guns! You should get in touch with your Irish ancestry! Do a mini-tour in Ireland! :P Either way, meas mór!! Good luck with the tour!
I see absolutly nothing wrong with smoking or drink as long as it (like he said) in moderation. The mini rap lesson was helpful as well and for those of you not familiar, quarter notes are couted as 1 2 3 4, eigth notes as 1+2+3+4+, and sixteenth note 1e+a 2e+a 3e+a 4e+a
Watsky you are a soldier for music, you are bringing your best weapons and attacking on all sides, There needs to be a new movement, a forward thinking and living movement, Where people such as yourself ,spread the word, that real love and respect for one another is the secret, and I dont just mean in the "hippie way" I mean in the "shits all fucked up and what are we going to do about it way" lol I love your music and Im glad someone else is apart of the solution not the problem Thank You!
I just went down the rabbit hole that is UA-cam, and getting a ten second music theory lesson from Watsky was probably the best thing that happened today
I think it's great how you're so open and honest, I think your opinion about swearing is great too, I have no problem with people swearing cause after all, they're just words
+Tabi B I don't get it either, its just a word, and casually saying fuck isn't going to hurt anyone. Why care about something so small?
listening to you is such a breath of fresh air. i have so much respect for you Watsky. thank you for everything you stand for.
I really appreciated your take on showing you are a technician and transitioning into being able to connect with an audience. Also your take on showing your true self in your art form is spot on. Highly important for any artist. Fantastic.
~Katy
One of the few vlogs I have ever seen that are not cut. He did and said all of this in one take. Amazing skill aside from his amazing rap. Love him.
I'm obsessed with him lol he is great
Wow. I love listening to people who are passionate about their craft. Well done Watsky.
I've been listening to your stuff for awhile, and from the beginning I've found you extremely inspirational. keep it up, Watsky.
So, I recently discovered your songs and such and I love them! I'm from MN and I definitely want to try and get one of your shows when you come!
Watsky I love you. The world need people like you buddy.
I love your line "If I just get 15 minutes I'm gonna stay myself
And when that 16th minute comes then I won't hate myself" in your 4AM Monday song... You're awesome man!
somehow you manage to remind me of whats really important on a regular basis. thank you so much ! i really appreciate you putting out things.
Man, im a drummer too, and i love how i can understand everything you just said. i smoke as well every now and again, just gotta keep it on the downlow. please come to Michigan, your my favorite music artist and i would love to see you live

Just want to say thank you. You have been one of my inspirations for writing and maybe soon I'll go public with my raps
Ha ha I'm glad to know there is someone else out there who didn't drink in high school or drank much during university. Mad love from one who was the DD to another. Kept up the honesty and the amazing music.

I'll be your friend. The world needs more balanced people like you.
These vlogs have inspired me to become a poet.
your one of the best rappers and poets i have seen
Man, you are an amazing lyricist, and I'm glad you don't censor yourself for other people. Keep on kickin', Watsky. :)
I have mad respect for you. You are a very intelligent human being. You always have something new to teach me every time you speak or rap. Keep doing what you're doing.
He carries himself so well, very articulate. Props man
I have a heightend level of respect for you. I had mad respect for you before but now respect is through the roof
correction: a measure can be 4 q notes. a measure can be in 3/4 time, 2/4time, and on and on.
You are a really good role model and down to earth guy, I definitely hope more people start to find out about you through your youtube channel

Can't like this enough. Mad respect to Watsky
hey thanks for making these videos with tutorials, as a young musical artist, it really helps a lot with technique and flow
All of this is so true watsky you are an intelligent man and a role model any parent could be proud of
watsky you're my dude
i get so excited when i see two things i like in the same place
I really admire George, he's so articulate, and faithful to his convictions. He could have cut corners and made a pile of money fast and dirty by selling out. Instead he shows real character. George Watsky should totally run for president, and Prime minister, and the King and a Dali Lama
GEORGE: Thank you so much for all the Wisco dates!!! I am in HEAVEN.

Im a french guy from quebec and Im Watsky number 1 fan. thank you :)
When are you performing in NYC? I would really like to see you live..

You are my favorite contemporary poet!

This man just changed my life.
your eyes pierce our soul
I always want to say something clever, but really.. I just end up saying the same thing.. You are such an amazing human being. Such an inspiration!
Would you consider doing a rap battle in any of the leagues that are out now: GrindTime, KOTD, URL, DontFlop, GotBeef, etc.? And who would be your ideal opponent, or someone you would like to battle?

He answers the question at 5:18
thank you glad someone was wise enough to post this regardless of how much i like listening to him talk
6:27 Best fact of the video (:>>_
WAS WAITIN FOR THIS
I love what's behind them, too.
I completely agree with pretty much everything you've said. Thank you for putting it to words.
this vlog made me respect you so much more sir. i look forward to seeing more of your videos :)
I will never stop asking. YOU NEED TO COME TO THE EAST COAST. SPECIFICALLY NYC. I missed you in 2008 and 2009 because I was always grounded.
when i was in the drumline we counted our 16th notes as hug-uh-dug-uh and the piano teacher i had always laughed cuz when i had to play my parts i would still count out the 16th notes as hug-uh-duh-uh instead of one-e-and-uh
You're coming to WI, which is exciting and I'll travel to see you if I can but it would be fabulous if you could come to Madison sometime...it's pretty much the best city in the state :)
how far in advance are your tour dates typically scheduled?
I don't know how anyone could start or hold an arguement with him. He seems really reasonable and understanding. ^^
One question: When will you be coming to Norway??... i hope its in the near future, bcus i just DIG your stuff!!!
I have a question for you Watsky. What's your opinion on Jay-Z? Is he one of the rappers you like to listen to? I know he doesn't rap fast but he has a great flow.
Hope you answer this in the future !
i love the line "sept for california where you see people buying it from convenient stores"
This proves there is hope for rap music
well you can use 16th notes on a lower tempo, or you can jack up the tempo and keep the 16th note phrase... so you can in fact go faster and still keep 16th note timing, you just need to up the tempo. the note timing (1/4, 1/16, ect) is different from tempo (60 bpm, 120 bpm, ect.) so youre not exactly correct watsky. but im sure youre right in that there isnt much room to go any faster without it being gibberish.
It's funny, because as a drummer, I understood everything he said when describing the fast rapping stuff. Who knew so much rapping is revolved around percussion?
Watsky. who produces your beats? and would i ever get a chance to produce a song for you to vocalize over?
Wish you was coming to Indianapolis on the tour!
george watsky is a saint. Watsky for President!

Watsky, you absolute legend. Fair play on sticking to your guns! You should get in touch with your Irish ancestry! Do a mini-tour in Ireland! :P Either way, meas mór!! Good luck with the tour!
You should come to Lowlands next year in the Netherlands mate.. Pretty big festival ^^
you sir seem to be a very awsome/intellectual person itd be awsome to see you live.
I've had the utmost respect for you, and now i fucking love you and respect you
I see absolutly nothing wrong with smoking or drink as long as it (like he said) in moderation. The mini rap lesson was helpful as well and for those of you not familiar, quarter notes are couted as 1 2 3 4, eigth notes as 1+2+3+4+, and sixteenth note 1e+a 2e+a 3e+a 4e+a

George, how is it you haven't come to texas yet?
