I dont understand why barely anyone ever made sailing videos like this with animations that lets us see everything easily.
Great job at this very good presentation! I learned a lot!
always happy to hear the effort is worth it, makes my day, thanks for your great response
@@searchingforcoconuts2248 Thank you for your great videos. I dont know what youve planned forvthe future. But I certainly would be very interested in a video focussing on the boom rigging with the halyard, the reef lines etc etc.
I need to figure out how mine is supposed to work.
@@obiwanfisher537 hi again, sorry for the late reply... it's a bit difficult to do tutorials like that as each vessel/brand/captain has their own set-up.... My advice would be to join as many sailing groups as possible, maybe even one specific to your type of boat, and bombard them with questions... sure, most of them think they know everything but these groups can provide great knowledge
@@searchingforcoconuts2248 no problem. I did my own research and it turns iut I have a very old furling boom system. I also learned that its not very good for reefing and that I should modify the boom for slab reefing.
These videos are exactly what I've been looking for. All super easy to follow, even for a beginner like myself. Great Job!
Mate i love the way you stop and wait after explaining something , people need to stop and think and imagine and when you can see then move forward .
These are the most informative and easily digestable tutorials I've ever come across. Thank you!
Thank you, for your support and great comments, much appreciated
A picture is worth a thousand words. So your animated tutorial was very good.
Easily the best simply explained rigging/sailing instruction I have seen. I did RYA Day Skipper last year and this was a fantastic review. Good work ! Thanks.
it's so satisfying to read such great comments, thank you so much
Damn, this is good. I knew the mechanics of the old gold age of sail ships, but this explains clearly and with great visuals the purpose of everything in the modern ship rigging.
thanks so much for taking the time to leave such a positive review, much appreciated
Had read many books dealing with sailing ships, but couldn't comprehend the meaning of sailing terms. Now it's clear
As a beginner sailing enthusiast I find these videos to be absolutely gold! So happy I came across them on YT.
I have n9ot yet sailed but I am trying to familiarise myself with where everything is and how it works so that when I do go sailing, I only need to learn how to sail, not where everything goes. I've watched this (and some of your other videos) several times now and today I set up all the sheets and line just to go through the process. It's a great way of beginning to learn what I need to know when I go sailing, so I'll be setting the lines up and taking them down a few times to get used to the motions. These videos are the best, I've learned so much already, I wish I could thumbs up for you 50 times. Thanks for helping a complete newbie get prepared.
Great videos. The only thing I'd add for anyone watching is that when furling away the jib it's a good idea to keep a little tension on the jib sheet (port or starboard depending on tack) to ensure the jib wraps away neatly. The easiest way to do this is a single wrap around a winch (maybe more if very windy) of the jib sheet and holding it lightly in your hand feeding out the jib sheet as you (or mate) pulls on the furling line.
Fantastic! The clear lines and colored ones to explain are excellent. Going next weekend for my ASA 101 sailing course! This is helpful!!
fantastic, thanks for the great comments and good luck on your course
These videos are quite brilliant - they are perfect for novice sailors and cover areas that are often glossed over by others.
Thanks. A good refresher. Just bought a keeler after years of dinghy and Hobie sailing. Did spend a fair bit of my youth crewing on racing keelers out of Durban, a place I am sure you are familiar with!
Hi Mike, thanks for the feedback... I'm a Cape Town boy myself, wishing you great sailing
The mid-cockpit travelers are great on the shins.
Thanks so much for this video......Sailing for Dummies.....absolutely perfect for sailing beginners like me. ;)
glad to hear that, thanks for taking the time to post your awesome comments
The animations are excellent as they give a clear view of what's going on.

Wonderful and simple to follow I'm a new sailor on a 50 f' sailing ocean yacht
fair winds, and thanks for taking the time to post such amazing comments
These are the best basic technical sailing video's I have ever seen. So useful. I guess they could be at great use for RYA courses. I appreciate the effort and hope you will keep posting them for free.
Excellent tutorial, superb graphics and you fixed the echo from episode 1. Nice!
I am about to do my RYA Competent Crew Course and these videos are great and easy to understand before I go
Brilliant - Well done on a great video - A professional tutorial as usual !
Thanks! These Sailing videos have been super helpful in my learning process

that's so great to hear, thanks so much and welcome aboard
I’ve been stressed over learning in books and limited sailing experiences, what you so eloquently illustrate here. Thank you so very much! 🙏🏼🛟
Hello again, thanks for the amazing feedback, highly motivating. Wish you well in your progress
I feel like I am enrolled in a professional sailing course and I didn't have to pay the $600 fee!!! Thanks!
These are really great videos. I've been watching a lot of videos because I'm interested in getting into sailing. You make everything so clear and easy to understand and have great animations too.
HI Matt, thanks so much for your great comments, hope you can get on the water soon
@@searchingforcoconuts2248 I have to second what Matt is saying!! Really awsome videos! I´ve been watching several others and theese are by far the best!! Answered many of my wonderings!!
Excellent format and explanations I’m a novice and find your series very informative… thank you
glad we could help... thanks for posting such great feedback, it's very encouraging
ive watched so many videos... for begginers ...and i only understood very little from those until i came across your videos...
very good at explaining.. terms and names are so easy to understand..giving info one step at a time.. thanks for this...
SUBSCRIBING NOW!... Looking forward for more Sir...
I learned to sail in 5 minutes. Regardless of all the terminology, remember newbies...FIND the wind. The wind may change on you. It may change direction at any time and can catch you off-guard. Check the wind reports, identify any land/terrain that will affect your wind patterns as you sail by. Plan your course. Be safe and have fun! Happy to answer any questions from my experience. I sailed 14ft to 25 ft sailboats and hobiecats. Good to learn in case someone is not available to toss you into the wind.
Enjoyed the info answers the questions in a simple manner for the layman like myself thanks
Learning a lot from your videos. Perfectly paced for absorbing info and the graphics are very helpful. Thank you for this effort.
thank you, your comments are very motivating and appreciated, thanks for watching
Great video. The sound is much better than the 1st

You are the Best of the best, only know i could understand how things are called and function, many thanks Bro
Good stuff as always.
Just found these videos today as I think about taking ASA 101 sometime in 2021. Awesome work! I subscribed.
So much to learn! Hope it's easier when you take practical courses!
Thankyou, really enjoying your clear instructions and these diagram motions.
Looking forward to mainsheet traveller operation!
Very nicely done!
thanks for taking the time to offer such great comments, much appreciated
What program did you use to create these models? They’re awesome, thanks for posting
thanks so much, we use the software Blender 3D which can be downloaded free at Blender.org. Go ahead and learn the basics at ua-cam.com/channels/CkVT2KL4slCH3HEbeq3MFA.html
Wow, the first one was amazing, but the audio wasn´t good. Now it´s a 10/10 tutorial, hope you can keep your work with the channel and thank you for the material!
thanks to all the reviews, we were able to improve as we go, thanks for your positive feedback
Yes, more gratitude from a sailing newbie. I've completed ASA 101, this is a great review. Super helpful and clear. Thank you!
Keep up the good work! the more info the better! chop chop! And thank you!
Super videos!!! Will you have any showing running backstays and check stays?
thanks Larry... hopefully one day we can do some of the stays and their settings
So, in the setup showed around the 4 minute mark where the sliding traveler is located in the floor of the cockpit, is that main sheet line not meant to be used with a winch? I am guessing that the block and tackle gives you enough mechanical advantage to adjust it by hand?
Hi, and thanks for watching. When you have a cockpit traveler, because the mainsheet is attached far to the end of the boom, you have enough leverage with the blocks. On systems where the traveler is set mid-boom, you need will need a winch to get it sheeted in. Hope this helps
Thank you so much !
I've found these videos to be the clearest explanation of each line there is.
My only problem (my problem, not the videos) is that I have a smaller older boat that doesn't have any jammers, and also a main sheet that is attached to each side rather than on a rail, so some stuff is harder to understand, but still... this is the video I keep coming back to for clarification.
I also seem to have 2 extra lines that go up through the mast which I have no idea what they do.
Haylard thick line that runs inside the mask 8mm.
Topping line that is external to the mask and just runs through a pully at the top 6mm.
2 x thinner 6mm lines that run up inside the mask and tie off at the base. No idea what these are for.
Any ideas anyone?
1973 Sunray 21
greetings and thank you for your amazing comments. I have posted your query on a couple of forums to see if we can clear this up. I myself have an opinion about these lines but am not an expert in Sunray 21, and would probably learn something along with you. You can follow the discussions here... facebook.com/groups/futurecruisers

Very informative. Question is there anyway that I can mute the sound of the waves? Very annoying. Hard to concentrate. If it can't be muted could the background sound be turned way down?
unfortunately, sound issues are due to rookie mistakes. Things I wish I thought about, thanks for your constructive input
So I listened to videos 1,2&3. Sound quality on 2 was better & #3 was very good :)
Thank you soooo much! REALLY GREAT!!!!
Açık, ayrıntılı bilgiler için sağolun!
I realize there are way fewer people interested in the mechanics of how to actually sail a boat, but these examples are awesome and are way more helpful than other videos, where they skim over details without explaining them! Cheers!
thank you, your support and great feedback is highly encouraging
