Well without putting guitarists down, the average saxophonist can solo the shit out of the average guitarist, a lot of that comes down to phrasing, I think it was The great holdsworth who wanted to play sax but could'nt afford it. so tried to make the guitar as saxophone like as he could. Another good one is to sing the notes you play.
Do not stop what your doing, Ive picked up a lot of tips from you that I can't get out of the guy teaching me. Looking forward to the Eric Johnson vid!!
I really like that u always pik 5 of the most important aspects of what ur lesson is about. Its not a thumbnail that says like 35 tips to instantly make u a rock god!!!! And the vid is 45mins long.lol. 5 tips for ____. Ok i can focus, learn them, and practice them. Very nice.
Again another post from me. You really have a laid back way of teaching. I truly like the passion that you have for guitar. I can tell that you love that 'lectric twanger. And btw, you do have some savory axes.
As you say, space within a solo is fundamental...think of music as being the perfect balance between sound and silence...or sound and the absence of sound.
I thought that sounded like Eric Johnson - Cliffs of Dover! Can you play that song? The tone you have on the amp you're playing through sounds sweet! Equally as important, I completely agree about "Ears get exhausted" as you put it, I call it Ear fatigue. Players that try and fit as many notes in the given bars afforded them, don't let the solo breathe! Some guitarist seem to play scales for solos with no feeling which leaves the audience not remembering half of the notes they heard from a solo. Players like Tom Sholtz from Boston and David Gilmour from Pink Floyd and Eric Johnson just to name a few, play memorable solos!
I just love your vids man! Although I pretty much know all the stuff you talk about, it's good to see some fresh blood keeping the knowledge 'flowing' :) Cheers from a studio musician from Serbia ;)
Robert Baker Hey man, great vid as usual! Cant wait to check out the EJ lesson. Love the idea of a vid everyday! Maybe it will get me practicing everyday again. One thing I wanted to ask you was, would you be willing to maybe add a looper pedal in some of your lessons? like on this lesson when you say "If you were playing this" then loop it for us while you play the lead over it?
Hello Robert!! Gotta say I love how you phrase , especially in this video. Can you tell me which scale do you use? (Or in this video particularly). Thanks!
Robert that some great advice. I appreciate it. Let me ask you a question the tone that you're using in this video would you use that live straight out the box like you're doing now or would you have to change it up and EQ it a little bit for your location that you're playing at. Or in other words, does this tone work for your live gigs?
Should have used your looper pedal hard-core this video, would help demonstrate your concepts much better for the newer crowd: great video though man, thanks!
And I have learned that if a lick doesn't work the way you wanted, just do it over again.. some symmetry can camo a screw up and even help you add something into the jam that you didn't think of before.
Can you do a lesson for bending strings? Everytime I bend the other strings get under my fingers so that when I release the bend, the strings ring out in a very uncomfortable way.
Either mute the string with your picking hand or when bending the string try to place your finger in a way that "separate" the two strings. I tend to hit the lower string upper on my finger, kind of like a double bend. Anyhow, you will find a way that fits you. Good luck :)
Try blowing and only playing while you blow, as a saxophonist or trumpet player would, does wonders for your phrasing. great video
deltadaz a very good tip for any instrument. Frank Sinatra learned how to breath while he's singing from watching his favorite trombonist play
deltadaz Except if you're a trombone or tuba player as well, you're going to be blowing for one or more songs. LOL.
As a low brass major and guitarist, I second this. Really makes you think more about where you're trying to go musically.

Purple Haze youre not not playing anything, you're playing nothing
Hey man. Love the vids. could you talk in one about not getting stuck in the typical places when playing pentatonic phrases
"Dynamics" is the most important and the least understood part of playing, for a lot of people. Well done.
Get in the feels lol
Awesome instruction, What you said about learning scales was right on, thanks.
Great tips on phrasing.
Awesome playing, awesome tones!
I love the Eric Johnson-esque octave slides and the Satch-esque slidey stuff
Can you break down that lick at 6:26 for us? So rad!

I just love your vids man!

The arpeggios at the beginning remind me of Neil Zaza.
Me: **is watching the video**
UA-cam: **No Views**
WOW just Wow
When you are even ignored by Computer..
I do love your tone.
I really enjoyed the guitar tones

Hello Robert!! Gotta say I love how you phrase , especially in this video. Can you tell me which scale do you use? (Or in this video particularly). Thanks!
Amazing video, helped me a lot

thank you :)
great video Mr Baker, as usual!¡!¡!¡!
Hey ! Could you please do a Phrygian , Type Of mode or scale , congrats on 100 k !
What amp do you primarily use? I absolutely love your tone
Incredible economy of movement.
Great vid rob!
Good stuff as usual. 🤘
I suspect you're not a fan, Rob, but a lot of your off-the-cuff riffs in this video sounded like Steve Howe riffs from 70s era Yes albums.
Robert that some great advice. I appreciate it. that would have made the video much better thanks for the tip homie
2:41 seems like some jazz players to me xD lol sorry bad joke... :P very nice video by the way. :)
Hey man, how do you set your delay? Your tone always sounds way too good!
The sounder between tips reminds me of Bill and Ted, every time.
For sure totally what I was going for :)
Robert Baker you have mad talent, and it's really cool that you answer fan comments.
Class act, cheer this man!
You’re awesome
hey man, I've noticed that you are using Cubase?
was I the only one who thought of the korg miku San pedal review by rob Chapman hahahah
Also be adventurous by throwing in random notes during a lick, as long as you land on a root note, nothing is wrong. ;)
hell even playing a note out of the song's key is perfectly fine if it fits what you're doing.
And I have learned that if a lick doesn't work the way you wanted, just do it over again.. some symmetry can camo a screw up and even help you add something into the jam that you didn't think of before.
10 metal riffs to help your playing please
yeah i definetely prefer morw shorter vids rather tham just a long one
Anything with metal
Yo guys
Guess who forgot to put up endcards again ;)
Can you do a lesson for bending strings? Everytime I bend the other strings get under my fingers so that when I release the bend, the strings ring out in a very uncomfortable way.
Well, for me at least, getting rid of that is really just to do with muting.
Either mute the string with your picking hand or when bending the string try to place your finger in a way that "separate" the two strings. I tend to hit the lower string upper on my finger, kind of like a double bend.
Anyhow, you will find a way that fits you. Good luck :)
Practice, practice, practice
hello there
how he can easily harmonize the pentatonic scale?xD
where does he live XD cuz its 12am when i saw this and its dark asf outside unless this was a pre-recorded video
for some reason ive found with music channels in particular daily content gets overwhelming
Thanks for the feedback Sammy
6th
Or do what Per Nilsson does, think of hot chicks while playing.
dat hair tho...
First
first!
Bet $100 Robert won't reply to this...
You still have those 100 💵
Are we not doing phrasing anymore?
you have lost your revv tone ..!!!!
Have no fear it's still here
