    When I first started, I met a fellow that had been painting for decades. He showed me a technique of stacking wet panels face to face, or if multiple panels were involved, pairs face to face stacked back to back. Instead of matches, we used dead twigs from the ground or off a dead branch. I was using a lot of 10”x12” then (still do) and I put a piece of twig across each corner so 45 degrees. Length was about 3/4” and went edge to edge. Put them on one panel then carefully put another panel on top. You DO NOT want to flatten the side of the twig as it will leave an obvious mark. If you leave the twig round any mark will be minimal as there is only a thin contact area. Because those twigs are corner, they can’t roll (yes, I knew that was going through your mind). I used a couple of narrow flat nylon straps with buckles wrapped around the stack to hold them all together. The first time I did it I strapped six painting together and slipped them into a cardboard box for the drive home. My friend was using larger panels and did the same. There was a very famous group of painters in this country that apparently used this technique in the first half of the 20th century.
    Nice video and very thorough examination of options.

    I am liking the display of the different various size boxes for carrying wet canvases in. At 92 years young, I have started painting again after many years. The box would fit nicely on the caddy on my walker when I go out on the veranda. ps . love the quick glance I got of some of the beach canvases of yours❤

    Hi Clare,
    Who know there were SO many different ways of carrying wet oil paintings. To be honest, I have always shied away from plein air oils because of the perceived 'faff', preferring instead to take my small watercolour sketchbook. This video has convinced me that there are ways and means. Thank you so much for such an informative video. Such a natural style of filming too! Love it!

    I am a new-starter, and been searching for a larger sized wet panel carrier; and, I am so very pleased to see your demonstrations, which is very impressive. The large sized Canvas Panel Carrier Raymar; and, the Alla Prima Pochade 10" x 12" carrier; which, is a great step up in size from the Sienna Richeson Panel Carrier, though well made out of wood and wonderfully finished, but, very expensive; which, only holds wet canvas in the following configurations x4 sized 9"x12"; or, x2 of 9" x 12" and x2 of "8 x 10" 3mm canvas panels. Thank you for this video. Best wishes.

    Oh I ordered one of those Raymar panel holders recently to be delivered here ( Ireland ). Time passed, and no sign. I contacted Raymar and they said UPS tried three times to deliver it without success and so returned it them and they had to pay for the return !.
    There was absolutly no physical evidence that they were ever here. Normally if I miss a delivery ( can't be at home 24 - 7 ) the delivery guy or post will leave a calling card saying when they were here. So over €100 down the sawnnie !
    Anyway, I ended up getting a Ugo anywhere version, which is a far better build quality for about the same price. The interior is made from aluminium and proper clips on the cover. Probably heavier than the Raymar but a lot stronger.

    • @ClareBowenArtist
      @ClareBowenArtist  Рік тому

      Hi Mavicity, really glad the video was what you were looking for!! There is a double space for two boards back to back. So putting one board in it generally doesn’t touch much of the edges of the painting. If it does I touch it up when I take it out and it’s still wet. Hope that helps! 🎨😊

    Thank you so much for this video. With each of these methods, does one just have to accept that the edges will get a little messed up? From wet paint touching the supports/spacers? Are there ways of mitigating this, e.g. using a fast-drying medium and waiting until the painting is tacky?

    • @ClareBowenArtist
      @ClareBowenArtist  Рік тому

      Hi Frank the boards are narrower than the space in the panel so generally it doesn’t touch. Hope this helps 😊

    • @leavingitblank9363
      @leavingitblank9363 Рік тому +1

      Yes, the edges will make contact with the supports, but the PanelPak, for example, say it's only 1/16" to 1/8" of the edge that's affected.

      @ClareBowenArtist  2 роки тому +1

      Hi TJ, If you have the carrier horizontal (as though it was on a table) and slide it in so only the back of the painting touches the edges this helps. There will be some marking especially if its thick paint. Depends also on the thickness of your boards. I touch up while the paints wet, if needed when I get home. Hope this helps :-)
