      thanks!. THe bike was brand new and there was little help from dealers at the time. After 1.4 million miles on bikes I've learned a few useful tricks . :)

    I can confirm that the firmware upgrade allows usb-c charging while the bike is running.

    You can run (and get wiring) to connect directly to you battery for your Garmin device. They sell it on their website.

      True, but there’s no need with the two power points under the seat as they are ready to go. And with the bag being hot and having the ability to charge gps, phones, cameras, etc, I’m set for longer trips or charging multiple devices.

    I'm trying to wire my garmin Gps to my PA, the instructions say to wire directly to the battery but the videos I have watched say that a switched power source is best to avoid killing the battery, I'm thinking about wiring to the lights, would that be a suitable choice? I already checked the wiring diag and found the hot wires for headlamp in the front. any advice?

      I would make use of the two heated gear wires under seat. Keep one for heated gear and use a coax to sae adaptor to then power either your tank bag or gps and radar or other accessories by running that wire under your tank and to the position you want. You will have no splices in factory wiring thus Harley can void your warranty and it’s pretty easy to do

    I tried this and was not successful getting phone to charge. Used same Gerbing connector off Harley wire. To the Gerbing I plugged in a sae to sae wire to get me in bag. To that I plugged a sae to USB Battery Tender conversion plug, then Samsung phone charging wire. Would not charge with engine running.
    I removed the BT plug and connected a electric vest to the sae connector. Power worked fine.
    I took the BT plug and connected to sae Pigtail off Battery on PA and it worked charging the phone while engine was off.
    I plugged in a cigarette lighter adapter to the sae connector in bag and then a cigarette style plug and phone charger and it did not work (even though it works fine in my Road Glide). Also plugged a mini pump into same adapter in bag and it ran fine so power is getting to adapter.
    Any suggestions where I am going wrong?

      That’s strange. If all pieces worked independently, they should work together. I have seen a few pieces not get pushed all the way together but I’m sure you checked for that. And of course the cig plug adaptors sometimes don’t make good connections

    I got a question. I wanna add some Baja design S2 fog lights upfront. You think I can use that heated gear gerbing wire trick to wire those lights in? The S2’s only pull like 4 amps total. Plus that would make sure they can’t be left on accidentally.

    • @usamedic
      @usamedic  2 роки тому

      You could use it to power them. But I think I would wire them direct to the battery, with a relay that is triggered from a switch.

    • @URBANAMERICANTAC
      @URBANAMERICANTAC 2 роки тому

      @@usamedic so the kit comes with a wire harness that includes a relay and switch. I was hoping that I could use that SAE adapter in place of going to the battery directly. This way, there’s no way I could accidentally leave them on. I’ve never wired anything like fog lights to a bike so I was just looking for thee easiest way.

    • @usamedic
      @usamedic  2 роки тому +1

      @@URBANAMERICANTAC it would work for sure. Maybe a better plan would be to wire in a small fuse block off that hot lead so you could then add other things later like additional lights, bigger and better horn, gps, and other goodies

      Worked out awesome. I was able to run my S2’s and used the Baja designs wiring harness. The Gerbing SAE adapter worked great with an SEA plug and red and black wire. Obviously I had to reverse the red and black for the correct positive and negative but that was easy. I just used shrink wrap to change the black to red and the red to black. Couldn’t be happier and when it’s all said and done, I can remove the entire set up in 15 minutes.

    Hello there,Which side of the gerbin sae to male coax is the positive? i it the expose pin from the sae trickle charger SIDE EXPOSED PIN positive? I AM PLANING IN WELDING SAE RED AND BLACK TO MY GPS WIRES (RED AND BLACK ) AND THEN CONNECTING THIS GERBIN ADAPTER TO MY HARLEY SPORTSTER S 2022 FEMALE HEATED COAX IN ORDER TO SUPPLY POWER TO MY GPS.

    • @robertbaker2964

      the protected part is always positive. So follow you lead from the battery. connect your adaptor, and the protected portion of the SAE will be your positive, while the bare metal portion will be your ground.
