Dressel is just a pure talent and well athlete that no one would dare to compete to because they how prepared and determined dressel really is that's why it's hard to defeat someone who is full of determination drought for victories. Before the race, the US team was viewed as an obvious underdog. Apple and Andrew were heavily judged, Murphy missed all the expected golds. Dressel was hoped to carry the team. The almighty British team was the clear favorite. Winning gold and breaking the world record by 0.5s is the evidence of a truly great success story.
Lol no, they were heavy favourites. Apple's ability as a 100m freestyler wasnt questioned at all. Murphy was a solid second and a half faster than Luke Greenback in the individual 100m back and Dressel had just broken the world record in the 100m butterfly. Not quite an underdog team
Just because the prelim team screwed up doesn't mean Team USA became the underdogs, especially when all four legs were swam by different swimmers in the final.

The USA swam this race to dynamite perfection and GB also swum out of their skin. Both teams swimmers for each of their leg were equal, and if had deficits was spread across the team. Team USAs changeovers were second to none and almost controversial at some point (Apple on a .04) but they added up to a win and WR. Whereas Team GBs changeovers were still sublime (0.1-0.4)

Italy got their medal out of pure luck... just look at Russia, Rylov fucked up his backstroke completely, he was 51.9 in his individual swim, and was 52 high here in the relay. Kolesnikov didn't do his best either, he can swim a 47.1 on a flat start but only swam sth around 47.3 in this relay, so if u really do the calculations, Russia can beat Italy easily if they were in their best form

Based on that previous free relay final, I believe their performance in this medley relay too, seeing how good were Thomas Ceccon in backstroke, Nicolo Martinenghi in breaststroke and Alessandro Miressi as the anchor.

This was by far the most confusing medley relay at the Olympics. I mean, the winner come from Lane 1, and yet still win gold and break the world record? That’s crazy.
USA were the main favorite. They were the defending champions, WR holder. But in this case, they had a strategy to not race from centre lane, avoiding Great Britain who beat them at WC 2019.

Based on that previous free relay final, I believe their performance in this medley relay too, seeing how good were Thomas Ceccon in backstroke, Nicolo Martinenghi in breaststroke and Alessandro Miressi as the anchor.
@@lexsoft3969 LMAO dude looks like u didn't do ur homework again! Russia lost it because Kolesnikov and Rylov had just finished their 100m bk final just minutes before the relay final! Russia had no one else to put on the relay team, therefore they had to use Kolesnikov again but left out Rylov. Remember, BOTH Kolesnikov and Rylov was on the team back in 2019, which the latter anchored the free relay and won silver behind USA. U can't say that Russia is better than USA, cuz USA has undoubtedly the most experienced relay team ever! u can only say it might be close if all swimmers were in the best form. i know how good the Italians are, not questioning this, don't really need u here repeating the same stuff again and again. do some research first, then come here and talk.

Dressel was over 1.2 seconds faster than Guy, so it definitely made sense in the end.
@@nightflyer3242 The point i was trying to make is that Andrew is the third quickest 100m breaststroker in history but still 2 seconds slower than Peaty. Don't think Guy is in the top 10 fly swimmers of all time? The gap is just scary

This was by far the most confusing medley relay at the Olympics. I mean, the winner come from Lane 1, and yet still win gold and break the world record? That’s crazy.
USA were the main favorite. They were the defending champions, WR holder. But in this case, they had a strategy to not race from centre lane, avoiding Great Britain who beat them at WC 2019.
