Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t the line betrayed with a kiss referring to when Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus
Yes, it was! The lyrics aren't only about MLK Jr. but rather several across history.
The lyrics will make the hair stand up on your arms. Give you chills. I suggest their album “Joshua Tree”.☮️☮️
Such poetry mingled with pristine instrumentation and that powerful voice......Rock Perfection!
Dude I'm 62 and I LOVE your reaction!!!! These are the songs that made U2 one of the greatest Rock bands ever.
Edge is a very unique guitarist - brilliant use of syncopated delay effects. You know it’s him when you hear it.
The great Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders sings backup on this track.
I remember when the album "The Unforgettable Fire" came out in 1984, yes, I am dating myself, a great collaboration between the band and Producer Brian Eno, the song was about Dr. King. Loved the chords in the middle.
I remember them playing this on Pop Mart tour and seeing a black cop in security watching a predominantly white crowd celebrating song with video images of MLK, and wondering what he thought of what he was seeing and hearing.
So glad you are enjoying U2. My favourite band of all time and songs that saved my life.
The older, the more rock sound. The albums Boy, October, and War are my favorites.
Here is which persons are meant (courtesy of @curtisthomas2670 ):
"One man caught on a barbed wire fence" - Dietrich Bonhoeffer - anti-Nazi German dissident
"One man he resist" - Mahatma Ghandi
"One man washed on an empty beach" - Roger Casement - an Irish revolutionary who was betrayed by the Germans shortly before the Irish Eastern Rising of 1916. He was left on a beach, too sick to travel and was caught by the English who executed him after a controversial trial.
"One man betrayed with a kiss" - Jesus betrayed by Judas
" One man to overthrow" - Malcolm X
And of course the third verse is about MLK Jr.
Peace from SF
I have probably heard this song 1000+ times, but it was fun to watch your reaction. Keep it up.
Running to stand still is a great u2 song - imo it’s their second best after with or without u
Other songs of U2 to check out: Ultraviolet (Light My Way), Every Breaking Wave, Zoo Station, The Fly, New Year's Day, Vertigo, So Cruel, Angel of Harlem, Night and Day, Lemon. That can get you started!
...stay faraway so close, if God will send his angels, exit, when I look at the world, moment of surrender...list goes on and on
This is old, but. Rattle and Hum. It’s a live movie version of all their songs. It’s beautiful and moving and you could break it up into sections. You’ll know them as you watch
This song is about MLK. Welcome to Black History Month. Nice timing.
"New Year's Day" by U2 next. 👍
Silas! Check out their debut album Boy. It will blow you away.
Can't get enough of the U2 reactions!
Great reaction Silas 🎉❤
The early albums, War and Boy are epic!
Listen to "Drowning Man" if you get the chance.
Best band ever! Pride is a great song of 1984. 'Where the Streets Have no Name' the next one, man!
Or anything from your avatar lol
@@lauraallen55 Best album ever ;)
It sure is! I've kept an older car partially for the CD player so I can play that thing endlessly lol!@@nimboestrato
Im not a HUGE U2 fan, but have always enjoyed this song. Another you should check out is "All I Want Is You" which is both their best song AND most underrated.
He's already done it.
Go on darling. When I was your age, like 35 years ago now, I listend to that song, after buying the record.
I have strong memories surrounding this music. U2 is generally too soft and pop based for my liking, but I find great value in the lyrics.👍
Angel of Harlem is my fav by U2.
Hey Silas. Always enjoy your reactions, I really think it’s time for some more Tool. There are many that you could start back with but I think you’d really like, ‘Right in Two”. Hope all is well there in Indy.
You’re gonna hafta look up some live recordings.
It'll take years to get through the U2 catalog. They've put out tons of great music. I'd recommend "Stay (Faraway, So Close)" or "Running to Stand Still" for a future reaction.
Running to a standstill still/streets have no name from zoo tv tour in Sydney
agreed Aaron, that is an excellent option!
Hi, Silas. Great song.
I have heard a band that I don.'t know Tool. They are very good, really good. Pneuma, Vicarious or Schism to star...(the videos blow my mind)
Now, fir something completely different- U2 song Zooropa, ir Please live at the mtv awards.
Enjoy your exuberance in your reactions.
The next step is Belfast Child by Simple Minds.
Dude why haven’t you reacted to the entire Joshua tree album, I promise you it’s one of the best albums of all time. I promise you it will be a gift.
There's all the earlier Pink Floyd stuff. You should start with "Atom Heart Mother" and work your way back to "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn"
MLK
The most annoying reaction I've seen so far 😂
Is it what more in the name of Love or one more in the name of love? Sounds like they're talking about multiple people who gave it All for Love
