      @@Dr.med.GeorgeGrant Thank you for the suggestion! I have had some requests and helped out here and there. But I quit one of my businesses in 2021 to have more time for the two remaining businesses that I run, next to managing all our own renovations, so I don't see myself turning this idea into a proper business right now. Although I thoroughly enjoy helping others design beautiful spaces so when I get a request I can't really say no :)

    I've been to Gordes a few times before. It's like it is a different place in the winter and in the summer. In the summer it is over crowded with tourists, and the only time it's not scorching hot is very early in the morning or late in the evening. We stayed twice at a beautiful B&B at the end of the village so we had peace and quiet. Provence is also one of my favourite places. I'm always thinking that I'll end up there when I retire :)

    Thanks Marloes for sharing your Provence escape - temperature looks mild judging by how everyone is dressed - is that usual for Jan? Where I live in Tasmania there are lots of vineyards & vignerons say comparable climate to south of France! I think our winter looks & feels colder than Provence! 😂

    Hello, I’m a fairly new subscriber to your channel. I’m am enjoying your content immensely.
    I started watching when my daughter was in France for her honeymoon last month. I introduced her to your channel yesterday.
    Imagine our surprise when the soaps she gifted me came from the same shop (the first). She also recognized as did I from her photographs quite a few areas in which you filmed.
    It had been a long time since anyone from my immediate family was on French soil. My great grandfather and almost my entire French family came to the USA in the early 20th Century from number 30 Department.
    I’ve not been, it’s been a dream of mine to spend spring through early fall in France. Buy a renovated cottage. Find an area that is not too hot or cold. Don’t care for large cities to live. Don’t want a car. Lol. Maybe a village that is close to public transportation so I can travel to Paris or other parts of France and Europe.
    Thank you so much for your content. It has become one of the most delightful parts of my day. To sit with a coffee and enjoy your beautiful French country life. ❤

    Hi, Marloes, Greetings from California! We love your channel! Your videos are such a source of peaceful inspiration. My husband and I are coming to Beaune (and then to Bordeaux) to stay for about a month. We are pretty sure that we are going to house hunt while we are there. What advice would you offer to two almost-retirees that are ready to invest in the dream? We are really torn between rural and village homes. We aren't sure if the language barrier will be too big. We are hoping to find a community like you have. Would you recommend Beaune as a home for French language novices? Are there other towns or regions that you would send us to? Any help is greatly appreciated. Merci! -April

    • @FrenchCountryLife
      @FrenchCountryLife  Рік тому

      I think this kind of life change and choice is very personal. Really, you just need to trust your gut feeling and as you visit places feel if you see yourself living there. Beaune has a very International vibe, even though it is a super small city (only about 25.000 inhabitants). The Bordeaux region and south and western France have many English immigrants, from what I hear from people living there. In any case, you wil have to learn French if you really want to integrate as many people don't speak English and the French will be open to meeting and interacting with you way more if you make an effort to speak French.
      I don't know if you live in a rural area now? We love living in a tiny village, but do realize that you will always need a car. There is hardly any public transport and it may be more convenient in the longer run to have shops or first necessities nearby. Just explore and follow your gut! The right place will show up.

    Hi Marloes. I've just come across your channel and have been binge-watching. Thank you for taking us to Provence. You say, "I knew we shouldn't live there." As someone contemplating retirement in France, I'd love to know why you say that. Why did you choose Bourgogne in the end?

    • @FrenchCountryLife
      @FrenchCountryLife  5 місяців тому +1

      Welcome to the channel!
      I think the choice for a place to live is very personal. For me Provence is too crowded in summer, as homes are in demand I find them overpriced (you get more value for money elsewhere), the summers are too hot for me and I am not able to do anything because of the heat and I want to be outdoors and active every day, I don’t deal with the Mistral winds there very well either (they are year round, not all the time but occasionally but I find them uncomfortable) and most importantly I personally believe that the area will have increased issues with the already large lack of water because of droughts. But for everything else such as the style of the buildings, the food, the vibe of the area, the plants that grow there, the nature and scenery, the people and even their charming accent, I feel it is a dream place. I love to visit but am at home in Burgundy.

    • @laurac7289

      Thank you Marloes for your thoughtful answer. It's so valuable to know the thoughts of someone who has gone through the experience. I wouldn't handle the heat well either! I'm seeing the floods on the west and south-west and thinking you made the right choice. 💐
