I'm certain this video was difficult to make, but it really was one of your absolute best. So good. Thanks for all your work. It really shows. I learned a lot.
Thank you so much for your very kind words! It took most of the day yesterday to work on - but worth it. There are so many daylilies and they are a magnificent food source!!
Thank you so much for this fun and informative video, I sent it to my mom and sister. We're in CA and trying to learn what we can eat around us, this is wonderful!
Fan-freaking-tastic Karen!! I eat them as a trail snack when I go foraging on my long 4-5 hour foraging walks here in Ottawa. I've never fried them though. Never tried pickling or making a cordial either. I must try! Thank you for sharing
Oh my - thank you for your super kind words!!! They do make a nice snack!!! Great for the eyesight!! Whoa - long hikes!! I have been in Ottawa a few times... love Mer Bleu and other areas! Also - of course, the Gatineaus!
I eat a lot of these. The buds are my favorite fried in coconut oil and a little minced garlic. I've 12:22 never tried battering them. I like the flowers raw. I have to try the tubers and the cordial. Great info. Thank you
Another GREAT video on your channel. Tomorrow I will harvest some buds to pickle them. I have some fermentation starter that will be ready tomorrow, so the timing is perfect. I stuff daylilies with a variety of things and for an extra kick I include Nasturtium leaves. Do you happen to know if the tubers are high in oxalates? I have to avoid foods high in them due to passing a kidney stone a few years ago.
JoJo thank you so much!! And thanks for sharing...nasturtium...mmmmmm!!! The tubers may have oxalates I am not sure. I have no scientific research in my files that says they have oxalates... or if so how much. Sorry I can't be of more help!
@@EdibleWildFood-1 Thanks Karen, I will continue my research. The problem is that oxalate testing requires a lot of time and they only focus on foods that are highly consumed. Potatoes and sweet potatoes are high in oxalates and carrots have less. I am assuming that all root vegetables are higher in those little devils. Everything in moderation is the best way.
@@jojow8416 As I say to people on my plant walks.... moderation - always!! Just because something is deemed safe to eat does not mean we go crazy and eat tons.... you know what happens if too many plums are eaten!!!!!! lolol

didn't you get diarrhoea for eating the day Lilly at all? I tried them once and I ended up with diarrhoea for the whole day
@@susannguyen6757 I have never gotten diarrhea from eating them. You must be allergic to them.
