Dr. Keller's approach is stellar. He presents Truth without being self-righteous or dogmatic. I have learned a lot listening to his lectures. He's a good reflection of God's grace!
I appreciate the discussions and even disagreements like this that can be handled respectfully. I wish we could do more of that without getting defensive or feeling a need to try and prove some spiritual or intellectual superiority over those that we talk too. Peace.
I so love the friendly banter between these two even though they hold opposing views. ❤❤❤
Momma Cita - I agree. That's because they're both reasonable and not trying to overpower each other.
In 2012 I suffered a brain aneurism that put me in a coma for 4 weeks. When I regained consciousness, I said, "I'm not sure who she is, but I think I like her a lot." (And no, I don't remember saying this!). In 2013 my home church hosted a 'Celebration Service that was filmed and posted onto UA-cam under my full name, "Charles Frank Kurtz." Spread word that miracles STILL happen!!! The fact that I'm still alive to say that is a miracle!!!
😂
God gives me perfect love ,and joy ,and relief ,and peace.
And Tim did have more depths to mine as he was plunged into more cancer issues as we all know . What is remarkable is what is reported is Tim’s deathbed statement to his wife as she kissed him on his forehead, “ I’m ready, I’m ready to go see Jesus”. We will grow in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ until the last day we breathe on earth. Then as Tim did, we will see Jesus in all his fullness and glory.
@justbekindtooall (9) In the story of the woman taken in adultery, we are told Christ bent down and scribbled
in the dust with His finger. Nothing came of this. No one has ever based any doctrine on it. And the
art of inventing little irrelevant details to make an imaginary scene more convincing is a purely
modern art. Surely the only explanation of this passage is that the thing really happened. The author
put it in simply because he had seen it." -CS Lewis
He gave an honest answer. We have doubts because the silence of god is a problem for many. But that’s exactly why the reward or consequences of our choice is eternal!!!
"faith, reason and doubt are all mixed up."
Interrupted by an annoying interviewer just when he was getting going.
@justbekindtooall I think you'd have to consider the analogy of a drug addict. To them, getting their fix of heroine brings what to them is 'joy'. Is that 'joy' a lie and worthless? Even if the psychological elements of the addict's mind are stirring up 'joy' its a false joy. Christianity ultimately teaches that unless one's Joy is found in the God who created them, that all those 'other joys' are simply means to Him, then yes they are worthless because they will they pass away. Isaiah 55:2
@justbekindtooall (5) Lastly, even if you don't believe the Christian faith, if you truly have studied it for 40 years you should no better than to call it a 'myth'. You can call it a 'lie', but to declare it 'myth' or 'legend' is simply an uneducated decree. As CS Lewis says in his essay "What are we to make of Jesus Christ?" - (see 6)
@justbekindtooall (8) Apart from bits of the Platonic dialogues, there are no conversations that I know of in ancient literature like the Fourth Gospel. There
is nothing, even in modern literature, until about a hundred years ago when the realistic novel came
into existence. (see 9)
@justbekindtooall (1) Hi again. Not sure how I didn't answer your question 'honestly', but whatever...
My point was simply asking you to consider what gives a joy 'worth'? I find it difficult to attribute worth to a relationship between my wife and I IF I truly and honestly believe that the relationship is nothing more than a biological byproduct of my species due to a unintelligent, and impersonal system of evolutionary changes. (see 2)
There are people of all beliefs and non beliefs as to the God idea. They have great joys, loves, peace in their lives and within their beliefs. Is their peace and joy all " a lie" "worthless" because they do not believe as you do?
@mikeisi Greetings, I see you are as so many are in capable of answering simple honest questions honestly.
To compare people beliefs in beliefs other than Christianity as drug addicts is disgusting, immature, prejudice and hateful.
So the joy one has in their love for their wife, child, family, beliefs , etc are all worthless? Foolishness.
.
The video question was not answered. Not in this snippet.
@justbekindtooall (6) ..."On the contrary we get the impression that none of His immediate followers or even of the New
Testament writers embraced the doctrine at all easily. Another point is that on that view you would
have to regard the accounts of the Man as being legends. Now, as a literary historian, I am perfectly
convinced that whatever else the Gospels are, they are not legends. (see 7)
@justbekindtooall (4) The fact is...there ISN'T such thing as being 'open minded' when discussing truth. The moment you say "I SHOULD be open minded about other faiths", that IN ITSELF is a NARROW claim. Your telling me that it is WRONG to not be open minded. Your declaring a single path that I should believe in. (see 5)
@justbekindtooall (2) What are you really saying when you claim "my marriage MEANS something"? Now the bible says that wife, child, family...those ARE of course filled with worth...but only within the context of understanding that they are 'gifts'. If one eternally rejects that idea...then yes, they are worthless, because they won't eternally satisfy. (see 3)
@justbekindtooall (7) I have read a great deal of legend and I am quite clear that they are not the same sort of thing. They are not artistic enough to be
legends. From an imaginative point of view, they are clumsy, they don't work up to things properly.
Most of the life of Jesus is totally unknown to us, as is the life of anyone else who lived at that time,
and no people building up a legend would allow that to be so. (see 8)
@mikeisi cont
Your God and belief are myths, but it is your right to believe in it, your right to hold it dear just as it is that right for all beings to do so as long as they cause no one harm.
As to quoting the Bible to me, you will find I know the bible far better than most, in study of it, the belief and it's history for over 4 decades. Also in the study of many other beliefs. Where we differ is I do not demand they are all lies, you do.
I have to learn to trust God on your own
I have to learn to trust God on your own
Let me tell you a story. A little after 9-11-2001 I went to see a man who made custom computers. He was a little strange. He was an ex marine who was in black ops. A lot of strange people including Russians walked into his shop whom he had dealings with. But he really knew his computer components. One day, when I was visiting the shop, a customer walked into his shop. I observed the customer for a moment & he was in perfect peace & self control & discipline. I never seen such peace & self control before. I thought to myself that man surely must be a Christian! When the man went to the back of the store to look at something I asked the ex-marine owner of the shop under my breath , " Is he a Christian?" to which the owner replied "No, He is a Muslim" That sort of was a double shock at that time.
What dors that mean
@@reptardequavis1607 It means you cannot always tell a person is a Christian by their alleged "fruit" for self control and peace are fruit of the Spirit. This man just radiated the so called "fruit" of the "Spirit" and was not even a believer. He could have easily fooled me or you if he has said he was a Christian. THAT I S WHAT I AM SAYING.

Keller reads a book without verifiable data, just faith, to believe in Jesus' rising from the tomb. A weak claim. Does he believe in unicorns too?
Hi Robert.
I just found your comment on a Timothy Keller video, saying that the resurrection could not be verifiable. Would you like to discuss that claim?
@@calebp6114 Sure. What physical data is there for his physical claim? He has only text of doubtful origins and unknown editing. King Tut at least left us body, lol.
Robert,
The whole point of the resurrection is that there is no body to be found. If I were to make a simple case, it would be this:
1) Jesus died.
2) Jesus was alive after his death.
3) Therefore, he was raised back to life.
The main evidence for point 2, includes the eyewitnesses - 1 Corinthians 3:8 creed, the fact that people like Saul of Tarsus converted, the physiological evidence, namely that nobody made a pilmigrage to his tomb (shows that he apeared to them). This is a brief summary.
@@calebp6114 No body to be found is an argument from ignorance, a fallacy, There may also be a body of Jesus, you do not know, again fallacy of ignorance for you. Your next argument problem is in citing Corinthians. This is a circular fallacy. You maintain a claim from Scriptures of Jesus rising from the dead, and then quote from Scriptures as a proof. It is also called begging the question.
Habeus corpus Caleb, produce the body, or any physical evidence for your text claim of a physical event.
Tim Keller believes a chatty snake tempted Eve. Do snakes talk? Find me one, just one!
The Christian has the peace of the deluded mind. A relief from mortality anxiety. A false faith.
