the only way disney convinced me sterling knight was hot is because i’m a sucker for slow burns and sonny with a chance nailed that… i remember this movie coming out and being disappointed how much of a lame romance between boring people it was

When I saw this video pop up I actually thought this movie was geek charming for a minute. They’re genuinely indistinguishable in my mind, except that Sarah Hyland is a much better actress than Danielle campbell
Nick calling the main dude by the wrong name for 90% of the video is amazing. OK, I can appreciate that since 9-12 yos were their target audience. The people commenting about how they were in high school (or older) and JUST LOVED this movie or soundtrack are making me sick to my ass.
Exactly, literally all of my classmates from school at the time loved this movie, we talked about it all the time lmao. Before this review, I still looked back on that movie fondly, though I do remember thinking even as a child that Jessica came off really mean for no reason a lot of the time. 😂
I was super young when it came out too and it was like my favorite movie at the time. (I remember there was like a week where they played it every night) to this day I can't not love it maybe its the nostalgia but either way I still think the songs slap.
I think in earlier years Disney tried to make TV movies that would appeal to kids and parents, but after a while they realized that parents would often put on Disney Channel in the background to entertain the kids and the parents themselves actually wouldn't watch the show/movie that closely, which is how we ended up with a lot of weak plots and flat characters. It's just enough to keep the kids glued to the screen but not meant to actually be good or taken seriously as a film. (I'm just talking about DCOMs, not the ones that hit theaters bc those seem much better in comparison.)
Media in general has been severely dumbed down over the years. 😐 actually, everything has been dumbed down come to think of it. Public education, ppl solely depending on tech for everything, banned books, food delivery services, etc. Minimum wage is still $7.25 and most jobs require at least a bachelor's degree... Ugh I hate living in this timeline. I guess I needed to vent for a minute lol :/

I watched this movie when I was like 12 so I was definitely the target audience but I've always hated it so much, Jessica is so fucking annoying, Christopher is not cute at all (sorry, sterling) and it pisses me off how hard they tried to make us think he is, way too many sonny with a chance actors (a show I found terribly unfunny and couldn't get away from back in the day) just ugh. However I must confess I did like the songs x) and I put up with the movie cuz this is pretty much a self-insert fic of a situation I would've given my kidneys to live with Joe Jonas xD maybe that's why Jessica has no personality besides the whole "I'm not like other girls" she has going on, she's just a placement character
1) I don't know who to blame for this exactly but I am Uncomfortable that while this movie was in production, the lead actress was 14 and Sterling Knight was 20. Please, Disney, don't. It's weird. 2) I only saw this movie, parts of it, a couple of times in rereuns. I wasn't watching that much Disney channel at this point, only really tuning in for my favorite shows like HM and Wizards, and I wasn't clamoring to see the new popstar Chad Dylan Cooper movie with some girl I'd never heard of. But for some reason I always remembered the "best friends since fourth grade" line because it's such specific exposition. I was in fifth grade at the time, and I thought to myself, well, did Stubbs move to Chris's town? Did Chris move to Stubbs's town? All of *my* then-best friends, I had known for years at that point. Most people meet their elementary school best friends earlier, in grades K-to-2, because you're in elementary school for a loooong time and fourth grade is kind of late in the game, if you are not yourself "the new kid." But they never explain it, even while it is stated in detail. It is so odd. Why do they even have to have been friends that long? Looking back on that as an adult, it feels like a harrowing statement about the entertainment industry, that Christopher Wilde has gained such notorious fame and his only best friend is still the same guy he's been hanging out with since he was 9. There are no truly meaningful relationships he's built since? Not even with his shallow starlet girlfriend? Only with some random teenager who is mean to him after he injures her? Food for thought, man.
One of my best friends through out school became my friend in fourth grade. We went to the same school before that too but we just didn't click until 4th grade. It doesn't really need a reason
I didn't even like this movie when it first came out, and I think that 13-year-olds were probably a target audience. Bad acting, bad script, bad music...bad everything.
I like the soundtrack because of the “feel good” energy and easy lyrics. They’re good songs to belt out with friends on a car trip. Jessica was always annoying to me but I think I liked that she had a sense of autonomy/independence. I think they were trying to make Jessica seem like Alex Russo but they missed several steps. The movie in general is easy to watch (due to its predictability).
This felt like every single story on wattpad about a male popstar, or boyband, and the fact that she was a kinda talentless but very broadly pretty kinda made it for me. Although, the actress in the movie was one of my first female crushes, her cheekbones and her smile were so pretty!
i've always loved the way jessica heads over and stands in front of the tv. she hates the singer, so the only possible reason she could be standing there looking like an action figure is to piss off her sister, who was quietly watching tv and minding her own business lmao. this movie is about if the bully character won in the end
This movie was pure y/n fanfic come to life, and the sad thing about it is that it's one of the better ones considering how old it is. Songs slap tho, burn me at the stake, I don't care!
I’m gonna be that person that says I’m never early to a video. So excited for this one! 😆 Nick you make watching old cringe Disney as an adult a lot more bearable
I was going to be that person too, but then I had to take a small break. Bless Nick for putting their braincells through so much in order to keep us entertained and informed - especially on a subject they're so passionate about. --- I could *never.* If I had to subject myself to hours of terrible examples of *my* passions, then go through them through such a meticulous editing process and then try to relay the issues in a fun and/or interesting way; I'd be an empty shell before even finishing my initial notes on what went wrong.
The actress who plays the main character always manages to make the characters she plays as unlikable, irritating and bratty af. She did the same thing with her character named Davina in The Originals.
Same the movie could have been better instead of making Jessica just rude to Christopher the entire movie maybe they could have been friends before he got famous and then he left her behind then that would explain why she was so against him and had this hatred toward him so
The sheer back and forth I went through in 2 seconds from being excited, to confusing thinking you did this already but confusing it with stuck in the suburbs, then excited again. I've wanted this for a while!
Personally I like a lot of the movies Danielle's been in but her movies roles are typically all the same so I get how people might not like them. I think of her as more of a TV show actress. She's had a few starring roles and just got done being on Broadway. She's probably the most famous person in this movie tbh
Would love to see Nick roast the John Hughes films of the 1980s; the homophobic, EVERYTHING-phobic gems that (mis)shaped generations..and why your parents are toxic 😂
I remember when this first premiered on the Disney Channel, I was so excited to watch it, but didn't understand time zones, so 8/7central didn't make sense to me. I turned the TV on at 8 to find the movie was already half over, and I was super sad. I didn't watch it in full until adulthood, because every other time it was on after that I either only got to see half or missed it entirely...
As a kid it's just one of those things you don't think about, you just say "aw cute romance" and move on but as an adult yeah Jessica is constantly angry for no good reason while Chris is just trying to be nice
Honestly, I agree about your underdeveloped Clinique opinion. No one is consciously thinking it, but subconsciously, we might interpret a lab coat as a sign someone has a greater knowledge or education in medicine. That is totally relevant to buying skin care.
There were girls out there like me who was absolutely in love with Chad Dylan Cooper/Sterling Knight. I was glad they gave him a chance for his own movie. Lol
I remember distinctly disliking this movie when it came out despite being the age demographic it was meant for (ok maybe slightly older cos i was 16 but still)
yea, i was 12 when this came out and i never liked it and it always felt weird/off to me (maybe because the lead girl was 15 and the love interest was 21 irl?)
I was excited for this movie because I loved Sunny with a Chance but it was all just awful. She was awful. For some reason the quality of this movie was just bad.
When I first watched this movie my brother told me that there was a side plot where Sterling Knight was a rat king and that’s why he has a little rodent face & that scared me so badly I threw up
I have a memory of watching this in middle school and wondering for days afterward why they made the main girl so Unlikable. and I still feel the same now lol. why is this pop star falling in love with her?? I wont be surprised if I find out all the writers were out-of-touch, middle aged men because this teen girl doesn’t have a human personality
- thank you!!!!! everyone i follow has this movie as one of their favourites from childhood, and like i'm not here to hate, i have undying love for very bad movies, very children movies, i am the queen of nostalgia, my movie taste is basically trash, but i absolutely never got the hype for this one! - first off,for a while i thought this movie and one of the cinderalla adaptations i think it was called ella something wuth the same actor were like the same movie? so i always was confused. - we know nothing about these characters, like why should i care about this romance, where is the romance? they fight constantly, she's super rude to him for no reason, they keep talking to each other like they're telling them someone no one else had the courage to say about them and like it makes no sense because we don't see anything about their character???? - jessica is just so rude to everyone. I didn't understand why she felt she was so superior to everyone. She looked down on her sister for her obsession over Chris and the fact that she doesn't read. Like, I get that she can like his music without caring about his personal life, everyone is like that, I love so many artists and know nothing about them, that's normal, and yes, I agree that celebrity culture is toxic and useless, we don't need them, but she doesn't need to look down on her sister for her obsession, it's such a double standard. I'm sure if Jess had an author she admired deeply, no one would look down on her for loving them, yet a love like that is no more valid than a love for a musician or actor, it's really just a making fun a teen girls thing. i am so over that, it was absolutely painful to watch. - i don't understand how the parens are okay with the girls going around LA unsupervised like it's not where thymre from, is this not a family holiday, should they not spend time as a family? but no one says anything about it, it's like a bad fanfic. and also why is the older sister not worried about her younder sister disappearing when she's on her watch? as an older sister, if i was out with my little sister and she was simply gone without saying anything i would freak out - like, i have never hated a movie this intensely, i try to see the positive in everything, it's annoying to people actually, but this movie just irks me so freaking much, and i know it's an unpopular opinion, it's one of my rare ones
You can always tell how bad the movie/person Nick is reviewing is by how sick he is at the start of the video. Thank you for sacrificing yourself for our entertainment. 🥺🤣

Well they did so random for 2 seasons. And many of them had other gigs within disney
Fun fact. The girl actress was 15 during the time of this film and the guy was 21... Bit creepy but that's the reason they never kissed.
Super creepy and inappropriate
if it were even 5 yrs earlier i bet they would've made them kiss fr :/
Didn't stop Disney before *cough* Blank Check
Ok, but I'm thinking that but probably the only reason they never kissed was because her parents didn't approve it ☠️ and it makes me sick.
You kids love saying anytime theres an age gap between characters its gross and creepy. Grow up.
Christopher Wild’s dreamy eyes stare looks eerily similar to my cat’s blank “I’ve forgotten where I am” stare
Ahahaha, that’s so spot on. My cat has that look 50% of the time lmao.
Ah so the “I smoked too much pot” stare.
☠️☠️☠️
the only way disney convinced me sterling knight was hot is because i’m a sucker for slow burns and sonny with a chance nailed that… i remember this movie coming out and being disappointed how much of a lame romance between boring people it was

“Wow you’re not like other girls” “no yeah she’s way worse” 😂😂
Kids are okay with a nothing burger when we get vicarious wish fulfillment through an empty main character.
losing my mind everytime he says "christopher knight" and "maggie".
Nick you HAVE to do Geek Charming. I was obsessed with that film as a kid and would like to see it taken down a peg.
I loved that movie. I want him to rip it to shreds 😂
Yes geek charming would be so good!!!
PLEASE he has to!
I hateeee that film ever since I found out how cruel the main actor is 😤
When I saw this video pop up I actually thought this movie was geek charming for a minute. They’re genuinely indistinguishable in my mind, except that Sarah Hyland is a much better actress than Danielle campbell
Nick calling the main dude by the wrong name for 90% of the video is amazing. I absolutely loved this movie 😂 It fueled my teenage dream to casually run into my celebrity crush where he’d fall in love with me. (Also that scene where Char literally slams into Ella from Ella Enchanted also fuels this fire🥲)
He got the actor and character names mixed up haha
I was starting to wonder if Chris Wild was actually the wrong name because he said Christopher Knight so often.
Honestly Sterling Knight sounds like a faker name than Christopher Wilde lol
I swore I've heard Nick say Christopher Wilde, Christopher Walken, and Christopher Knight, and at this point, I just figured whenever he mentions Chris something, hes referring to that pale blonde thing on my screen lol
I swear I thought this was a Brady Bunch joke since actor Christopher Knight played Peter on the Brady Bunch.
Fun fact and the only positive thing i know about this movie:
One of my closest childhood friends(Anna-Margaret) is who performed “somethin about the sunshine” for the movie. It’s the only almost claim to fame I know.

It’s crazy to think that just a couple of years after this movie came out Danielle Campbell (the actress that plays Jessica) would date Louis Tomlinson from One Direction. It’s truly life imitating art!

I was like 9 when this came out & trust me … Disney did their job right - I was obsessed 😂🙏🏼
same, literally loved the soundtracks so much it hurt
I loved it soooo much
OK, I can appreciate that since 9-12 yos were their target audience.
Maybe the real Clip Breakdown is the friends we made along the way ✨
I still hear that song in my head sometimes "Starrrrrrstruck camera flashes cover of magazines"
So the girl made the boy fall in love with her through pure negging.
Truly a leap forward for gender equality.
Are they trying to normalize predatory language? "You can't tell anyone, not even your parents"
"If you like any [of the songs in Starstruck] comment down below and explain yourself to the court" Nick really got me wheezing there lmao

They really tried to make the Sonny cast the next HSM cast
I just love how nick basically rewrites key points on the script that would make the movie waaay much better
This was the Disney movie that made me realize how terrible Disney movies were
same:/ all i saw was the Formula and leads that fit current beauty trends and i was like :/oh

I wonder if this script started off as a Fanfiction, it's giving me that vibe 🤔
When you said “Courtney Wortney” I immediately thought “that’d be a great name for a BoJack Horseman character” 😂
I WILL NOT stand for this Starstruck slander

This movie was SO awful, and damn near impossible to get through, even with the death grip on my psyche that Sterling Knight had at that point
This movie was pure y/n fanfic come to life, and the sad thing about it is that it's one of the better ones considering how old it is. Songs slap tho, burn me at the stake, I don't care!
Y/n exactly!!!
Under 21 clubs would attract two types of people: tweens and sexual predators. That’s why we never see them.

I’m gonna be that person that says I’m never early to a video. So excited for this one! 😆 Nick you make watching old cringe Disney as an adult a lot more bearable
Agreed
I was going to be that person too, but then I had to take a small break. Bless Nick for putting their braincells through so much in order to keep us entertained and informed - especially on a subject they're so passionate about.

I could *never.* If I had to subject myself to hours of terrible examples of *my* passions, then go through them through such a meticulous editing process and then try to relay the issues in a fun and/or interesting way; I'd be an empty shell before even finishing my initial notes on what went wrong.
The actress who plays the main character always manages to make the characters she plays as unlikable, irritating and bratty af. She did the same thing with her character named Davina in The Originals.
Yeah when I watched the Originals I thought the same thing. Her character in Famous in Love and that prom movie wasn’t the best either.
I've wanted this for a while!
the fact that the only other notable movie Jessica’s actress has done since this is the fine bros horrendous attempt at one makes all too much sense
but she was amazing as davina on the originals

She's had a few starring roles and just got done being on Broadway. She's probably the most famous person in this movie tbh

I turned the TV on at 8 to find the movie was already half over, and I was super sad. I didn't watch it in full until adulthood, because every other time it was on after that I either only got to see half or missed it entirely...
I used to think that it meant between 8/7 so 7:30 for a really long time and had a similar problem
As a kid it's just one of those things you don't think about, you just say "aw cute romance" and move on but as an adult yeah Jessica is constantly angry for no good reason while Chris is just trying to be nice
The age difference between the actors always ooked me out he’s like 20 and she was like 14

- i don't understand how the parens are okay with the girls going around LA unsupervised like it's not where thymre from, is this not a family holiday, should they not spend time as a family? but no one says anything about it, it's like a bad fanfic. and also why is the older sister not worried about her younder sister disappearing when she's on her watch? as an older sister, if i was out with my little sister and she was simply gone without saying anything i would freak out
- like, i have never hated a movie this intensely, i try to see the positive in everything, it's annoying to people actually, but this movie just irks me so freaking much, and i know it's an unpopular opinion, it's one of my rare ones
I relate to this comment so much even though I never heard of this movie before watching this video 😂
You can always tell how bad the movie/person Nick is reviewing is by how sick he is at the start of the video. Thank you for sacrificing yourself for our entertainment. 🥺🤣
