Great video guys, love the shots. On John's style I think while yes its the lovely contrasty stuff we all love. That zoom lens is really the x-factor. It's the compression of the scenes (in my opinon) that set John's work apart. You're two great dudes & I loved this convo, learned alot.
Love his definition of street photography and how he said to look at one scene in many ways. I'm not there, yet but striving to get there. Another fun and informative video 👏🏼🙌🏼
Thank you, Kevin. Street photography is whatever you want it to be. Don't allow your creativeness be stifled by another persons opinion......The definition is broad and wide :) It just takes lots and lots of practise + reminding yourself to take the blinkers off and look beyond what you see. :)
John is brilliant. The way he sees a scene and works it is incredible. I’ve been lucky enough to be around him and soak in his mastery 🙏🏽 thank you so much for tuning in and your feedback. Means the world to me.
Great chat, and a very engaging fella. I believe that walking and shooting streets is a great way for people with insecurity to express themselves artistically.
Great channel. I like listening to their podcasts. As far as photographing the homeless, I don't make an image of this person while they are in their "home," but I don't discriminate by not photographing them if they are in public doing what every other person is doing on the street as a daily routine.
Been looking to this one. Met John and Ben super briefly on George street a few weeks ago. It’s great to see this community thriving with so much talent.
Great interview, 😊 loved hearing his story about photography on the street. Totally agree that a zoom is ok - whatever it takes to get the shot within reason of course , found the podcast will take a listen
I would offer that street photography is not as simple as just taking a photo of something on the street, otherwise anyone could do it and do it well all the time. I think street photography has to create an effect greater than the sum of its parts. Elliott Erwitt’s image of the chihuahua, next to the boot of a person, next to the tall leg of a dog, isn’t just a simple photo of a dog on the street, it’s a collision of a moment in time. On top of that, any bystander at the time would not have seen this, they would have just seen an owner with two dogs. Erwin created this moment with his framing. So street photography has to add/create drama/intention to something that isn’t there but for the fact that it exists in a frame together.
“Fuji People” 🫠 😂😂😂 (Houman begged me to leave this comment for you John! Don’t cancel me!!) In all seriousness, great insights and great work as always lads. I appreciated the shot you got at around the 25min mark of the same lit scene as where I was with H in my video too, only with my 28mm I had no chance from that vantage point!! Great stuff. :)
Ha ha.....You need to get a zoom or just "zoom" with you feet and risk Sydney driver rage and their fondness in using their car horn. ;) Appreciate the comment, B :)
Such a cool episode. John is a top bloke, love his work and his attitude.
Thank you so much. I’ve been lucky enough to call John a good friend for some time now. Thanks for tuning in
Common sense description of what street is. 👏👏

Just love the opening coffee comments. Life is too short for bad coffee! Oh, and the soothing vocals of one John ST... morning magic.
Couldn’t agree more. Coffee is life and John’s voice is magic ☺️ thank you for tuning in.
ha ha I don't think Barry White would have anything to worry about. 😆😆😆 But thanks for the kind words :)
Great Interview between two legends! I really enjoyed listening to John's thought process for when he captures an image.
Also was this sponsered by Fujifilm? 😆

I remember that day... We were like "Where's John? ..Oh he is standing in the middle of a Sydney street in front of a bus..."
Oh no 🙈 I think he’s learned his lesson 😉

It does feel that way doesn’t it. People really open up after walking the streets for a while 🙏🏽
Thank you. :)

Great interview and nice to put a voice to a name
Really appreciate it Philip John’s a good man a great friend
I've never met him but he's been a great help with street work advice
Where did you find out this "X" hat? 😍
I got it through the Fuji X Aus group some years ago. I'm not sure they're still selling merchandise anymore.

Bahahaha Ben I asked you say this? I could never. (Said with a very sarcastic voice) 😆
