I want to give a big shout out to whoever is responsible for this movie I've been looking for this movie for the longest I want to say thank you and stay blessed
This movie was very good. I am so glad that Princess aka (Harriet) realized that she didn't belong down there in Harlem, NY where she came from. She had made it out of the hood with determination and education and family encouraging her. And she has a boyfriend that really loves her who was a successful attorney. She needed to be with people like herself. It's good to help people in need but you are only one person, and you can't save the whole world. You have to do your part and help some people. Great!! movie
I agree with all of that with the exception of her being so loose outside of marriage. Just a small note: Harlem is actually "up" there; its the Northernmost part of Manhattan. 1:19:43
Her cousin Ivy kept in touch with their childhood community and didn’t share that information with Harriet… She let her loss touch yet she kept in touch on purpose…. The world we live in now is constantly changing… This movie is still very informative about culture and society…
We been doing our thing for sooo long now, and we still holding onto a Victim Narrative, by 'we' I mean the younger generation but it's society and our elders that perpetuate this limiting belief and it's got to stop
these movies remind me of my childhood, my dad and mom coming home from work, our brick street, the street light that came on in the neighborhoods. Never ever thought of a pandemic in my life time. its 2020 and this is what help me make it through these days we live in
Seeing these women in their prime and seeing them now really drives it home - time passes SO fast. Young today, tomorrow older (and hopefully wiser). Our life really is like a flower.
Rebecca, You are sooo right, I've found that the FOUNTAIN of youth starts with the acceptance of the Word of God. He has a lot to say on aging, it begins in the mind the central professing unit for the body. If we can wrap our mind around what our CREATOR says about us, not what we think, read Ps 139, it says it all. I am 72 yes young same as some of the people in this movie today. I still play tennis, jog, walk, golf etc, because I embrace the Word of my Creator. I have the mind of Christ, I hold his thoughts and purposes in my heart.
lol, the arrogance of youth is a laugh, younger people make remarks about older people not seeming to realise they to will be the same age lol, its just down the road and round the corner, for you lol,,just get over yourselve,s
It seemed right, when's she said she rather help from where she was, some times people embrace negativity I'm stead of shunning it so they can be better people.
I saw this on television when it originally aired , it was interesting then and still is . Some Blacks find success and some don't , some want to help and some want to forget , this dynamic is still ongoing . However, it was great to see images of successful Blacks too. Just like she said help from where you are . Thanks for these great films .
I think she was too confused between guilt, memories, and, as the boyfriend said: "wanting more of life." Sometimes it´s too hard to help, but it´s possible to "do" something, and that´s helping indirectly. Maybe that´s fairer for everyone; and it would give her a connection to both worlds she wanted to be in touch with.

Beautiful story and characters and situations, beautifully performed by amazing Afrikans. No blood, no guts or serious violence necessary. No nude bodies exploited... No LGBTQ-BS agenda being pushed... No...
I always find it funny that homophobes always mentioned black LGBTQ out of context. That hatred harms you, and not us, brother. Remember that Gay and Lesbian black people(James Baldwin, Bayard Rustin, and Barbara Smith) were fighting for the rights of all black people. The children always forget what their hatred ignores.

@King Khan On top of that, women that shave their cat makes me think what's going on down there. Personally I rather for it to be unshaven, just leave it natural and the hair on the head as well.
I wish I could LIKE this film 10 times!!! BRAVOS all around to the entire ensemble. I don’t care what anyone says the 70s are my favorite era of Black cinema. With all the remakes/reboots being made how did this one slip through the cracks? @reelblack Thank you for introducing me to Saundra Sharp and I have a whole new respect for Morgan Freeman. I love these old movies. I saw this when I was growing up. I can not remember if it was home on television or the theatre.. Very good theme about working , and getting educated to progress in society however we must always mentor or pull someone else up. You can still go back to your neighborhood and give back. I always thought Saundra Sharp was great looking and classy like Dianhann Carroll.
This was a suggested movie from an old uncle of mine after I tried to help my classmates and got ridiculed for helping. Not all of them but a few weren’t very nice to me behind me trying to help. I received comments like “who asked for your help?” I’m trying not to b afraid to help others again. Can’t wait to watch this and c what he’s talking about lol 😆
Wow! A beautiful and powerful black film with excellent talent and story line. I was too young to remember the movie back then. I wanted to move to NYC to become a fashion designer, but now into film production (I do a little fashion design now as well). Thank you for posting this movie.
Omg I just love the chocolate sister hair styles and how she put multicolored scarfs around her ponytail omg I am definitely going to do this to my hair she gave me an idea
This is an amazing movie, thanks Danny and many old and young entertainer's,Such Grace, style and elegance Out black Community has.... let's continue to grow together in a positive way.....🙏🏿❤️
Wow! I can't believe that this was the first time that I've seen my cousin working in his craft. This movie really shed light on issues that we face in our communities, positive communication strategies and bridging the gap between blacks of different economic and social levels.
The scene when they were at the arcade ( Coney Island) put a smile on my face. I couldn’t stop smiling 😁 This picture was before my time, but I see myself in this picture 💕
Watching this movie for the first time at 35 years young I see this from a different perspective. You really can’t save everyone. Instead of Sweettalk getting his life together he wallowed in pity for himself then tried to blame Hattie for reacting to what he was. She was the first person in a long time to actually show him the truth. Danny had been enabling him for a long time. Hattie was right. Both Danny and Sweettalk were afraid of moving forward. At least Hattie attempted to come back and help unlike Paul and his buddy. In the end Hattie did what she could and still realized she could not go back and also move forward. Sweettalk robbed her and used the money to buy the drugs that killed him. Danny blaming her showed her that he too was stuck just as much as Sweet Talk. I’m glad she made the best decision for her.
YO! I’ve been looking for this movie for years! I remember watching it, as a kid, one late night back in the 90s. All I remember was Morgan freeman falling from the roof and the “making it to the top” song. It’s been over 20 years man smh, thanks for posting it I really like this movie.
Oh Hattie Winston- (actor in Jackie Brown) Saundra Sharpe (actor in Good Times : mother to Gary Coleman and Anna Marie Horsford (actor in Amen, Wayans Bros and Friday movies) ALL were accomplished ladies were underrated as it was sad that good acting roles weren't available for tha sistas! So many blacks cud neva get mainstream looks. 2 much DAMN TALENT not enuff appreciation 😉
So everyone in this movie was in their midcto late 30s? Wow! I dont really know these woman but I've seen the darker one in movies. Morgan was the male I knew.
This was a made for tv movie that I watched when it first aired. Great to see it again. The plot holds up and I like seeing "old" New York City. Thank you for posting. The 1987 movie Street Smart was Morgan Freeman's breakthrough movie.
I was thinking about this movie the other day, wanting to see it again! Thanks for making my wish come true! Loved Saundra Sharp in this, I wanted to be just like her back in the day.
Me too! the sister were so Sharp! and cared more what they looked like i had a Angela Davis Afro back in the day! wish i still had one but now i thank God i even have hair left! still Black and beautiful! by God 's grace! Peace Family!
This was a great movie, you can tell low budget movies, yet we know that take away from good stories. This brought back memories. The struggles our people go thru even when you do make it. I thought of mahongey with D. Ross, but that was love story. This was real good writers, good actors, great reality story. How far we gotten from to where we are today. Family movie. Thumbs up baby, Thumbs up,
What purpose is that? To further teach that successful blacks don't understand unsuccessful ones. Or that being a token is acceptable and that they help from a distance. This movie was alright until the end. 👎
Showing you the REAL outcome of drugs and drug addiction.Morgan Freeman as Sweet Talk was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!Gritty and soooooooooo real!Thank you,Casey Grimes-Finley,Chicago,Illinois
Great movie! Straight, sad facts. How painful it is to see certain things shown this clearly; but it´s good. It´s so easy to turn our back on those who remain in poverty, illness or violent areas, from which we achieve to "escape". I think that those who know the pain themselves are the ones who can do some things that others can´t do; they must not, but they may, and it is something that fills one´s life. / Strength, goodness, knowledge, patience, persevearance, hope, ... so much needs to be done; so much can be done, ... and it is done, if we just pay the price to stay long enough as to get it done, with sweat, tears, faith, laughter, song and celebration! Great songs! Many blessings!
This film evokes nostalgia for me, as I lived in that neighborhood during the 70s. I can relate to Harriet’s struggle of reflecting on the past and trying to assist others, yet failing to recognize how much she has changed; what once benefited her at 18 no longer applies. Great movie!!
No+ such great 🎦 movie I never saw Morgan Freeman perform so well actually the movie was very touching it also says when you make it you sometimes have to leave the past behind and live in the present even when it" hurts" if not the past will destroy, nonetheless, the fashion designer had a reality check which was excellent going back would have captured her I can relate to this particular movie 🎬 Thanks reelblack excellent choice.
THIS CLASH BETWEEN THE SUCCESSFUL & THE NEEDY - TO HELP OR NOT TO HELP, IS A BIG QUESTIONS, SOUL CHALLENGING & THAT THEY ARE TACKLING IT HERE IS A GOOD THING. INTELLIGENT MOVIE.
I really enjoyed this movie. I like the ending / her understanding of how to help. not where she came from but where she is at now. which is part of accepting someone where they currently are.
Why do the characters with a darker complexion always have to be the mean or negative people in films while the rich and successful characters often have a lighter skin tone? I wanna see a film where dark skin people play both roles. Any recommendations? Apart from that detail, this film had a great message and very good writing.
The hidden techniques Hollywood uses to continue to color code our presumed intentions in a movie we didn't write! I would place pentagrams on white people's foreheads for immediate identification!
THIS REMINDS ME OF 'MAHOGANY' WITH DIANA ROSS & BILLY DEE WILLIAMS... SAME THEME. LIKED THE LAST LINE... GOTTA MAKE CHANGES FROM WHERE I AM, NOT FROM WHERE I HAVE BEEN...... TRUE WORDS.....

SUPERB!!! 🥰Thank you reel back we as a race truly know how to entertain as a people of power👊🏾
🌿❤️🖤💚🌿😍🌿🥇🌿🌏🌿☀️🌿🥰
Beautiful story and characters and situations, beautifully performed by amazing Afrikans. No blood, no guts or serious violence necessary. No nude bodies exploited... No LGBTQ-BS agenda being pushed... No...
I always find it funny that homophobes always mentioned black LGBTQ out of context. That hatred harms you, and not us, brother. Remember that Gay and Lesbian black people(James Baldwin, Bayard Rustin, and Barbara Smith) were fighting for the rights of all black people. The children always forget what their hatred ignores.
@@dadevi homophobe does not exist. Just a made up evil government propaganda. You shouldn't be upset with the comment. This movie is not pushing the garbage that is being pushed in most media today.
So beautiful to watch, we need more off these film's such an old movies bot but still relevant today love it xxx
@@missspencer7744 Amen!
The moral of this story sucks, bottom line. And we know it was produced by so-called whites.
These sisters both beautiful in a natural way. No fake anything 😘

@King Khan what?
@King Khan 🤦🏾♀️
What a great film and important message. I hope Black cinema finds it way back to storytelling like this again.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Totally agree with you. I want a platform where I can see all these movies.

I really enjoyed this, being from NYC and fashion student i can relate completely
It kind of reminds me of the movie Mahogany with Diana Ross and Billy Dee

I missed Harlem where I grew up,the way it has to be.memoeires, sweet memories, of days gone by, I feel left out to cry. thank you for this movie.
The scene when they were at the arcade ( Coney Island) put a smile on my face. I couldn’t stop smiling 😁 This picture was before my time, but I see myself in this picture 💕
My father used to take my brother and me to Coney Island every Sunday afternoon when we lived in Brooklyn. It was awesome!
Love your observation which is spot on!
Yes, Reelback Thanks an excellent movie done with realism and dignity. Keep finding these gems. Janice Harley
Gosh what a great movie now that I can finally sit down and enjoy it oh my goodness I really enjoyed that♥️
YO! I’ve been looking for this movie for years! I remember watching it, as a kid, one late night back in the 90s. All I remember was Morgan freeman falling from the roof and the “making it to the top” song. It’s been over 20 years man smh, thanks for posting it I really like this movie.
I've been looking for this movie for years too.... Showtime used to play it in the 90's....Good movie....
This is an Excellent movie, a must see.👍👍👍👍
Intelligent movie with philosophical questions about the past, identity, solidarity, separation, and social class.

That is Hattie Winston singing. She is 74 years old now. Saundra Sharp is 76 now.
I like the days when black women didn't wear all that goop on their faces - just natural beautiful.
Yeah these ladies were n their natural beauty 💟!
Cool, thanks. They till look awesome. Also Anna Maria Horsford and a few other well-known actors haven’t aged at all to their chronological age.

Thumbs up baby, Thumbs up,
A great period movie with a timeless message.
When movies had purpose.
What purpose is that? To further teach that successful blacks don't understand unsuccessful ones. Or that being a token is acceptable and that they help from a distance. This movie was alright until the end. 👎
I Believe she's Going to Run for the Office that she wanted Danny to Run for!!! Thus, Helping the Community in Large!!!

This was worth the watch 👌💯
Morgan Freeman out here looking like Jimi Hendrix! 😂😂
Lizzie Beth Yes he does!
Right !!!
Lol
@Lance Lanny that's true.
You got that right. He sure do favor Jimmy Hendrix a lot.
I love watching old movies ❤. Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you for this one Reelblack; this was a good one!
Why do the characters with a darker complexion always have to be the mean or negative people in films while the rich and successful characters often have a lighter skin tone? I wanna see a film where dark skin people play both roles. Any recommendations? Apart from that detail, this film had a great message and very good writing.
Thats so true
Real Life.
Because white people write it in the screenplay!
The dark skin denotes danger, something to
not trust and beware of.
The hidden techniques Hollywood uses to continue to color code our presumed intentions in a movie we didn't write! I would place pentagrams on white people's foreheads for immediate identification!
I enjoyed this. Thank you for uploading

THIS REMINDS ME OF 'MAHOGANY' WITH DIANA ROSS & BILLY DEE WILLIAMS... SAME THEME. LIKED THE LAST LINE... GOTTA MAKE CHANGES FROM WHERE I AM, NOT FROM WHERE I HAVE BEEN...... TRUE WORDS.....
I told my friend the same thing. Especially when they are walking through the neighborhood and the Coney Island sequence.
Thank You This was such a great movie😇
