  • Art Tripp is a classically trained percussionist who first met Frank
Zappa in Greenwich Village in 1967. He joined the original Mothers of
Invention soon after and became a part of that legendary group's first
incarnation until Zappa disbanded it in 1969. He later recorded with
    Captain Beefheart.
Here he discusses working with Zappa and the Mothers on stage, the
recording of the albums Cruising with Ruben and the Jets and Uncle
Meat, the Freak Scene and recording with Wild Man Fischer...

And if you look close enough, there are two bass players. One is original Mother Roy "Ralph Moleman Guacamole Guadalupe Hidalgo" Estrada.
Sadly, Roy is incarcerated on child sexual abuse charges and won't be eligible for parole until 2036, if he lives long enough at 93 years of age.

@@zolarczakl3880 ~ I think the first bassist in that video is Mark Boston (I could be wrong about that), and later he's playing six-string while Estrada is on bass. Also, the guitar player with the sunglasses and big beard is Elliot Ingber ("Freak Out!). It seemed Beefheart's band was a repository for people who left The Mothers.

Zappa had a bigger conceptual continuity thread throughout his career about dogs. How many dog references can you come up with in Zappa's world?
I'll start you off with something from Ruben & The Jets, since Artie is on it.
On the back cover story of Ruben Sano, at the very end of the bio, it reads "Ruben has three dogs: Benny, Baby and Martha." And the greatest dog reference in any song anywhere is from Later That Night with the line "You threw my best sharkskin suit out on the lawn, right on top of some dog waste." THAT is poetry!

My favorite song on Uncle Meat is called "Dog Breath In The Year Of The Plague".
