I got more information about which is a better AVR from reading the comments than watching this rambling conversation that keeps veering off topic that ultimately didn’t provide any answers. The audience who watched this video get an A. The people who made this video get an F
I have owned both the 20 series and 40 series of Anthem. The 40 series is much improved over the 20 series. I currently run the Arcam and I seem to find less bugs than the Anthem. Both sounded great on my JTR speakers. The Arcam is definitely more of a hands on system whereas the Anthem is a little more hands off like Michael said. Anthem seemed to have a fuller lower end sound. Arcam seems to be more crisp on low and high frequencies but not harsh if dialed in properly. Anthem seems a little more forgiving. For example switching from my Focal speakers to my JTR speakers Anthem was not to difficult to dial in to get a smooth clean sound. On the other hand Arcam at first was like wow. This needs some work. But once you put in the work it seems to have a wider sound stage with more detailed separation in sounds and a better panning in movies. After trying some pop music I was no let down in the least. I love blues jazz old classical music and the Arcam is in my OPINION was just better for me.
Wow thanks for sharing that!!! I have owned a Arcam avr20 and now Arcam av40. I had big time bugs with the 20 to the point of needing a replacement. So they at the time didn’t have any more 20s so I opted for the av40. It had bugs to but once it got upgraded to 1.54 or something like that. Very smooth sailing, very smooth! I would think the 11, 21, 31, and 41 would perform similar but I don’t know that for a fact.
@@HTtimperry I didn’t get the Arcam until about 6 months ago and at first it had a few bugs but an update came down and like yours it was smooth sailing. It will have the every now and again issues as all electronics have but very rarely and a simple unplug and plug back no more issues. I looked at the specs of the new series and I could be wrong but they seem very close to ours. I think your right they shouldn’t have anywhere near as many issues as before. Plus audio advice worked with Arcam to help get things worked out. Do you notice a big difference in sound between the avr and the pre pro?
@@matt07497 I only had the avr20 a month or two and then it took me a month to get the av 40 going. So no direct comparison would be meaningful. I never have to unplug the av40. What firmware are you on?
I agree with Joe, with all the shootouts that happened, where are the findings? Someone should have been recording results from all the shootouts and tallying up the rankings.
I just received my Arcam AVR21. No problem whatsoever since the newest firmware update installed straight out of factory. Sounds fantastic for my room with Dirac on.
Judging AVR room corrections is difficult because any full featured room correction can be manually tuned to match the other so do we only judge the automatic calibration without manual tuning? And if you’re going to manually tune anyway then save money and get Audyssey + Magical Beans
These Daily HiFi videos comparing to Dirac vs ARC and such are very frustrating. It's like no one there was even paying attention. Very let down by the attendees and lack of ability to even *comment* on their perceived differences between the technologies.
First and foremost… You Guys are awesome! Keep up the good work. Ever since I heard the first Anthem avr MRX-700 years ago I was blown away by it’s performance. Didn’t buy it because it was Ugly as F🤐 So I bought Yamaha Aventage instead but always adored the sound of Anthem. Fast forward…. I recently compared the Anthem MRX-1140 to the Arcam AVR20/30 and Wooooow The Arcam is such an amazing sounding receiver! Insane quality both with movies and especially music! Anthem is also great but Arcam takes it to the next level. It’s like opening up the curtains when listening to music. It had some software issues in the beginning (true that) but it works well now. Roon included and supports all surround formats and streaming services also. Anthem sucks on that part! And unfortunately still a lot on “Coming Soon” status. So I preordered the latest greatest Arcam AVR31 with a great discount at my local dealer here in the Netherlands. Can’t wait!
Hola tengo un avr31 del cual estoy muy feliz en peliculas me parece sobresiente y en musica igual...pero siempre tengo dudas de probar un 1140 por lo que se habla de que en cine es mejor....al leerte entiendo que apenas existen diferencias en pelicula no?
@@Robert-tr7we when I changed from my 18 yr old Yamaha receiver to a denon, I was very disappointed for various reasons, so I spent a long time deciding what I’d go with. Funnily enough it came down to these Two: Arcam or Anthem. My local dealer said it was splitting hairs, so in the end, as I was a paradigm fan, I went with Anthem. I think either of these choices are a win win.

You get more flexibility over Dirac over Arc😂😂😂. He really say that?
Because of new Dirac spatial coming out at some point - end game room correction if it works the way they describe
