I’m surprised I didn’t see Field Marshall Georgy Zhukov, he was basically the guy who won it for the Soviets lol.
0:53
Zhukov was a bad general he wasn't able to stop the germans on the first months of the war until battle of moscow in which he had twice the casualties than the germans had on the battle, the only reason why he winned was because the germans didn't had the logistics and the capability to be on such overextended front
@@cesarpro2363 "Zhukov was a bad general he wasn't able to stop the germans on the first months of the war until battle of moscow"
totally not because of unprepared troops and practically awful troops and weapons.
and also all good generals got killed in the great purge, blaming stalin's idiocy and unpreparedness on his top general is the most slimy act you can do honestly.
it's like blaming rommel for stalingrad lmao.
@@tiagoheitzmann Why is zhukov wearing n@zi's cap?
@@avechristusrexchristisking the guy after the one with the nazi cap.
military generals/leaders used to go into battle, now they just sit in their panic rooms miles away.
That’s partially because communication has improved dramatically over the past century.
@@louisnall3102 yeah, but it has created an era of lazy desk jockeys.
@Nayer Yayer Yeah but its alot better than them sitting on their bums and doing nothing but order drones and "accidently" killing kids and saying "total victory we got the terrorist".
That is not a bad thing. It is bad when a General who never fought a war, or didn't even shot at an enemy once, has his chest full of medals. Although, the greatests military leaders were the ones who went to the battlefield with the army.
@@literalbomb9835 A single lucky artillery hit and war is over.
Must say very happy to see Robert. E Lee say what you want politically but it can't be denied that he was a fantastic general and a gentleman.
one of the greatest men ever. freed all the slaves he owned when the war started. loyal to virginia first, usa second. hes an anti hero figure just like rommel. love em both.
@@sukhoiboy4140 how is rommel an anti hero figure ?
@@omeven5785 because of the swastika dude. anyone bearing that cant be remembered for greatness.
oh i just searched antiti hero definition. i should have used a better word! i guess i suck at english eh
Both lee and grant were the greatest generals of the war practically they both were just the same person on opposite sides
It's amazing see how the uniforms changed
Happy to see good ol' Stonewall. As a person suffering from autism he serves as a great inspiration for me and shows that even guys like me can make it
Was he autistic? The more you learn
Ah yes. Even you with autism can become a slave-supporting treason-committing general. Good luck out there!
Exactly. Completely disregarding his political beliefs, this isn’t what this vid is about. He was a good general
I didn't know he was autistic
There's this quote from one of the total war games (I can't remember it exactly): "Adversity reveals a generals talent, good fortune conceals it". Essentially we won't know if any of our generals in the modern era are any good until things become difficult.
Something so elegant about an important, high-ranking general. They seem so humble and just looking at them in uniform let’s you see that they mean business
They fought and bled for their children to have comfort. Now that we have grown up with comfort, many forget the blood and sweat of the past. At least we remember.
They didn't. They sent other people's children to fight and bleed.
@@pauljames1807 They is that generation of men and women. Not the government.
@@RisingFlag100 And? These men didn't fight or bleed. They commanded I.e. Just sent thousands young men to die.
@@pauljames1807 The old generation would stay home, while that generation goes to fight the battles, so while your right, I am completely right as well, because I am talking about the people of that era. It was a tougher era, and now people are becoming weak because they forget how tough it was in the past.
Finally,no slowed down and reverb
Props for including Vercingetorix and Caesar. Caesar goes without saying but Vercingetorix did a great job with what he had available to him at the time.
*I absolutely love how you made the effort to sync the video with the beat.*
I wouldn't really credit someone for that since it's the bare minimum required for this meme to work. What I think deserves credit is the variety of leaders and nations in a wide timeline that doesn't focus too much on WW2.
I saw Vo Nguyen Giap and Ho Chi Minh, this puts a smile on my face.

In my opinion, war can be counted as art too.

The arts of war exists

Too much western generals. You should have added more eastern like khalid bin welid, Hannibal, Saladin, Alparslan, Modun Chanyu, Timurid and Mehmed II, Subutai, Belisiarusi Suvarov and Zhukov

I very rarely see any appreciation for Sir John Moore. I wasn't expecting to see him here despite that I am very glad he was.
rommel and mao , zukov and patton , damn the memory .
Why would you ever put mao in there? his track record as a commander and a politician is horrific.
Thank you for adding Alfred the Great (twice!) he's too often overlooked in English history.
damn, you should have included Suvorov.

There will never be any more truly “legendary” military leaders. Yes there will be many known ones but no more ones that go down in the books as the greats regardless of their side.
People really sleep upon Skanderbeg who resisted turkish invasions into albania for 25 years straight while being highly outnumbered

In a perfect world these great men wouldn't be needed
That's deep
@@Aerosol4444 it's not its just how things are
no, in a perfect world these great leaders wouldn't be waging war on each other, but they would still be needed
What an awful thing to wish for, the only times human beings become anything virtuous and worthwhile are those periods when they're under the greatest duress. The imperfections of circumstance make the perfection of men. Why would you watch a video about people formed by hardship and ask of the world to get rid of the hardships required to make great men? Does it not occur to you if you remove the hardship, you eliminate the excellence too?
@@conatus1306 what I was wishing for was that there wouldn't be any War that's the perfect world that I see alongside unicorns jumping across the skies and nobody hating each other but well I do see where you come from there needs to be pressure to make a diamond in times of great Strife to make better men but we don't live in it better world and these men are revered for their prowess leading soldiers in battle and that's something well and good but it's far from perfect
damn You have vietnamese general and leader in this video.Big thanks for that
And Joseph B. Kershaw, and Colonel David Ireland
Additionally, I feel as if Lucian Truscott is missing, he's a somewhat underrated American general from World War 2.
Haha we get to see Marshal Ney. Manz refused a surrender when surrounded by russian army. And force marched his way through a river pulling men from the river when the ice cracked. still he made it back to the french lines with 800 men. he is truly one of the bravest of Napoleons Marshals
They may be gone but the sacrifices they made for their people will never be forgotten

Moshe was a great person besides military
Put Winfield Scott Hancock in one of them
Some French generals of WWI and WWII are missing... But nice video
WW2 ? Can't really say they were at their peak during that time..
It's true that we didn't participate as much as the United States or the United Kingdom, but we had good generals who enabled many exploits. For example, during Operation Dynamo, General Molinié resisted several German divisions allowing the re-embarkation, in Dunkirk, of several hundred thousand British soldiers.
Or General Koenig, who resists in the Libyan desert against the Italians and the Germans then under the command of General Rommel, thus avoiding the encirclement of the British troops which allows them to fall back on El-Alamein.
And afterwards, we can also mention General Leclerc (De Hautecloque), commanding the Free French divisions. And the most famous, General De Gaulle who organized the Resistance in France and the reconquest of territories conquered by the enemy.
I hope these few pieces of information will make you want to learn a little more about the role of France during the Second World War. 🙂
Napoleon stonks
Mannerheim was having the good time

Great Chieftains of the past: to ask what a good man is is not enough, to be one is.
you should've added Ataturk too
Good ol' days- military leaders fouight, bled, suffered, and even died alingside their men
Nowadays- military leaders sit far away from the frontline, all cozy, and no risk of dying, while their men fight, bleed, suffer, and die.
Glad to see Norman Schwarzkopf, he planned one of the best modern military operations to date and made it look like art, no denying people died in these but the execution was flawless.
Politically wrong or not, Norman's planning skills were brilliant.
0:02 For the Aljubarrota image, I'm going to subscribe. Absolutely the most underrated battle ever
