Obviously, the reason this mine was abandoned was because there was an undiscovered gold vein that was left undiscovered. This reminds me of the early Gold Rush where they'd open up a new "cut" because they just felt like it had to have gold. Real miners drill core samples and let a geologist actually tell them where the gold is.

Yeah, they have no money, or equipment, and what little money they did have they used to buy lumber which they could have easily harvested on site. These guys are clowns.

I know I won’t & I’ve been there not actually to the mine. Dad has been in one of those mines & took me to mouth of canyon to show me where he hung out with the Dale Bros. We went last June & ran into Paul. Then to see Rick because Rick & Dad where roommates in Collage. That’s when we heard about this show. They are all mining Engineers except for John.
Safety is their number one priority & that’s why they haven’t been mining yet. Besides their not going to show everything they do to be safe but their always looking out for the camera crew & got rid of one Guy because he wouldn’t listen. The Dale’s wanted to find out if Oly’s story is really true & basically it’s just a hobby mine. They got some gold & Rick showed us some of his. It’s not enough to stop your day job but it’s fun for them. Besides they do get royalties from the show that helps them to pay for stuff to run the mine. If I didn’t know these Guys from Dad I would really hate this show. I want them to find Oly’s gold already instead of hearing their stories but it’s fun to hear Dads stories & what they did together.
Slowest workers I’ve ever seen...no wonder it took them till they are in their to 60-70s to be able to buy it.
I bet it leads to Al Capones vault. Get Geraldo to host it.

Typical modern practice is to remove the old portal back to rock, then install ground support (bolts, straps, shotcrete) as required. Timbering is slow and expensive, there's a reason we don't use it much outside of specialized applications like chutes.
That's what my partner and I did in our mine at Canyon City Oregon. We put our sets nect to each other and we had some old road grader blades that we drove into the sets we put in then used an old house jack to push the blades up and install moresets under them. It's called "spiraling".

They're never going to do anything. Once you realize that, the show becomes a lot of fun, I particularly like it when they use the phrase, "critical to our operations". Every time one of them says it I almost start crying with laughter.

doesnt matter if they find even the mother load of gold the US left the gold standard long ago and its value mainly drives from jewelry and electrics as it stands now there is plenty of gold and recycled gold to maintain current gold needs and some
as such gold prices are mainly artificially inflated from it true value in our current world

It never ceases to amaze me the idiocy of Hollywood productions using slow motion, music and exaggerations. Why have I not heard the words “structural engineer” or “civil engineer?”

Mining engineering is a separate discipline and we prefer to keep civil engineers (known as the liberal arts majors of engineering) far away for everyone's sanity. Granted, I doubt these guys have a mining engineer on hand either.
