  • Kerid Crater Lake, located in the Golden Circle region of Iceland, was formed approximately 6,500 years ago. It came into existence through a volcanic eruption, which left behind a massive bowl-shaped depression. Over time, this depression filled with water, creating the beautiful and distinctive crater lake we see today.
The crater is around 55 meters deep and 170 meters wide, with striking red volcanic rock walls that contrast beautifully with the deep blue water. It's a remarkable natural attraction that offers visitors a glimpse into Iceland's fascinating geological history.
Don't miss the opportunity to explore this ancient wonder when touring the Golden Circle!
If you're travelling in Iceland on your own, you can add this short stop on your itinerary anytime, as it is only 40 minutes away from Reykjavik.
But don't worry if you don't drive; a lot of Golden Circle trips add this stop, too. Here's a really popular day trip: gyg.me/svqVgn2D
I visited this place on July 1, 2023, at 12 pm (midnight) and it was empty.
But during the day, it will get more crowded, but the color of the water will also be more vivid.
