  • I shot this short documentary of my friend and producer 'KMRU' as he moved through various locations in Nairobi collecting sounds for his music production.
    "Field recordings were the very first form of ambient music, before synthesisers even existed, and these days the natural music that they capture is truly global movement. Nairobi artist KMRU will host a workshop on how he builds tracks from sounds from his surroundings in Kenya. Come and take a virtual trip through the rich and redolent sounds of East Africa." - ADE

    Mad respect for you both! Great film. Watching him collect field recordings seems like it would be a really cool thing to do. Imagining sitting down in the studio and chopping these up and naming each one in a systemic way to be able to recall and use them later - totally daunting. But KMRU gets it all done! Really fascinating and inspiring. thank you for sharing. Here on the other side of the world I feel a common interest and connection.

      I personally enjoy the chopping, naming and sorting almost as much as the recording 😂😂

    Can't thank you enough for making this. Brilliantly filmed and edited and such a relaxing way to get an insight on a fantastic musicians process. Amazing.

    This was great. It's one thing to hear wonderful music, another entirely to know something of its creation, and something really special when watching and listening as it comes together from the start. Thank you.

    How are you not getting contact noise when holding your recorder with your bare hands like that?

    • @cryptotrader2779
      @cryptotrader2779 2 роки тому +3

      He is. I heard it quite a few times. I have the same recorder (Zoom H6) and I can hear it clearly. It sounds a bit like wind noise. He definitely needs a suspension mount for it.

      I was also having great trouble with the handling noise while recording with my zoom H6. So I bought a Joby tripod camera stand and it has saved my field recording life. I can handle the recorder with very little handling noise and I can also place it on a tree branch, on a fence or even on wet ground without the recorder touching the ground. Also great to keep still and pointing the right direction and angle while recording a performance. I highly recommend it.

      @@MetroCounterColl what size do you have? (talking about the tripod) does it feel good holding walking around. I guess a big one is better for placing and small for holding while walking? What do you think?

    He does very interesting stuff... Different for once. Well, actually I am quit impressed. But he should get a less noisy laptop, the fan kills it...

    Que manía con mover objetos. Eso es intervenir y falsear la "realidad" sónica del mundo. Hay demasiados sonidos que encontrar y escuchar profundamente como para hacer tonterías con unas piedras.
