One of Bruce’s winning factors is that he plays with spontaneity and freshness, even though he must have practised and played the pieces millions of times. The music seems to just flow out of his mind and fingers on the spot, rather than heavily contemplated.

Very well said. In one of his interviews, he mentioned he would "improvise" on the stage.
The polonaise was textbook perfect. The Andante would have been perfect also if Bruce used a little more pedal fir a more legato feeling.
If he did that, he would have won the polonaise prize……
@@tonytony8747 Yes I do understand that. I am quite sure now that Bruce's main strength are fast passages not legato passages but hes gonna work on it as he develops
I don't know why some people delusionally view Liu's performances from the competition to be "spontaneous", he seems to be pretty careful with the polyphony between the voices, the rhythm and the overall feeling of a polonaise. Other contestants, in contrast, played this piece with only their right hands.
I can see why he won this competition. Playing perfectly a composition is one thing, but being able to toy with it is another level. You can see he's having quite a fun with it. He's got a good performing presence.

To nie jest interpretacja na konkurs, to interpretacja która już przeszła do historii jako jedna z najgenialniejszych. Być może przerosła swoim poziomem ramy konkursowe i być może właśnie dlatego nie przyznano za nią nagrody za najlepsze wykonanie poloneza. Chcę wierzyć że to był prawdziwy powód

I wonder why this didn’t win best polonaise prize. I’ve heard this piece countless of times in my life yet the way Bruce played it made me feel like I’m rediscovering it altogether 👏 and of course he played it with such ease and charisma
Those fast runs reminded me of Hofman so much, Bruce has a "thing" that resembles the old masters. Although I don't like Hofman's approach, it's undeniable that he had his moments and an impeccable technique. I 100% agree that Bruce should've won the Best Polonaise prize.
@@Thiago-px9ev totally agree! Why didn’t he win the prize, why, why??? And also prize for etudes, mazurka and so forth, he was so good in almost all the repertoire he played and not a single prize for the different category! But I am sure glad he won the overall 1st prize, he definitely deserves it!!!

The andante with this polonaise was delicately introduced; played with an eye to detail. Unusual sostenuto hand action. The polonaise was in the same vein, but robust where indicated. A thoughtful performance, with quite brilliant execution. Illuminating . Thank you.

He has it all and he's magic ! Gadjiev is a genius but LIU is the grand communicator ! Genius storyteller ! He holds us spellbound ! He has depth.The Andante has never said so much as with him. Hofmann is smiling !

Really interesting. It feels like he's found all the goodies and is just enjoying laying them out for himself and us - superbly of course. And yet there is more to come as he puts it together with the total panache he has ready. Give it a year and he'll amaze us all - and himself - on this piece. Can't wait.
