One of Bruce’s winning factors is that he plays with spontaneity and freshness, even though he must have practised and played the pieces millions of times. The music seems to just flow out of his mind and fingers on the spot, rather than heavily contemplated.
I Love watching his hands.
Very well said. In one of his interviews, he mentioned he would "improvise" on the stage.
The polonaise was textbook perfect. The Andante would have been perfect also if Bruce used a little more pedal fir a more legato feeling.
If he did that, he would have won the polonaise prize……
@@tonytony8747 Yes I do understand that. I am quite sure now that Bruce's main strength are fast passages not legato passages but hes gonna work on it as he develops
I don't know why some people delusionally view Liu's performances from the competition to be "spontaneous", he seems to be pretty careful with the polyphony between the voices, the rhythm and the overall feeling of a polonaise. Other contestants, in contrast, played this piece with only their right hands.
I can see why he won this competition. Playing perfectly a composition is one thing, but being able to toy with it is another level. You can see he's having quite a fun with it. He's got a good performing presence.
takes true cojones at this level.....this fella is the man to beat for a while to come...in Chopin, at least
the famous asmongold twitter first responder! :O
@@joshyman221 yo
he behaves so much beeing part of the piano... extraordinary player and personality. best since like 10 or so years winner
gonna make a career thats for show. lol
He should get a special award for "best polonaise"!
100% agree !
That exists. No one won it in this competition.
In this piece, BL rises to the level of a musical-storyteller. And in this piece, has a notably lovely tone and phrasing...
8:53 the piano is literally singing!! Amazing playing, Bruce!!
The second movement's like an absolutely perfect performance, jesus christ
13:13 love that ending. Last note literally bounce up.
His dynamics are absolutely INSANE!!!!👌
This is the most luxurious performance ever! I feel like I am on a cloud for the first part...
Nie wierzę. To cud, że pozwolili temu geniuszowi wygrać❤
It is a very perfect performance !!!!!
This is just flawless.
Bright and effortless, you don hear too often this kind of clang, together with Fazioli the Steinway s sons turn green 🙂
Holy shit until today i been thinking Zimerman has unbeatable interpretation, but this performance is indescribably great and one and only in history of piano
My favorite Andante Spianato and Polonaise🌹 What a brilliant and colorful sounds and dramatic interpretation!!
he plays the grande polonaise part so brilliantly❣️
the unbearable lightness of being almost ❤️
His Dynamics is beautiful!! He deserves this win!
Gracias estimado y admirado Bruce Liu. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🇦🇷
Always in control. Always looking to say something with his phrasing. Reminds me of a young Kissin. Omg 9:10. Would really love to hear him play the F-sharp minor one.
Flawless. Best pianist I have discovered in many years.
Brillant, noble, bright play!! Remind me Rubinstein character
Pan Fryderyk Chopin jest dumą Polski! Cały naród jest z niego dumny! 🇵🇱
Brilliant performance with passion and delicacy! Bravo!
I can travel trought your fingers, reaching the Universe
I wonder why this didn’t win best polonaise prize. I’ve heard this piece countless of times in my life yet the way Bruce played it made me feel like I’m rediscovering it altogether 👏 and of course he played it with such ease and charisma
Those fast runs reminded me of Hofman so much, Bruce has a "thing" that resembles the old masters. Although I don't like Hofman's approach, it's undeniable that he had his moments and an impeccable technique. I 100% agree that Bruce should've won the Best Polonaise prize.
@@Thiago-px9ev totally agree! Why didn’t he win the prize, why, why??? And also prize for etudes, mazurka and so forth, he was so good in almost all the repertoire he played and not a single prize for the different category! But I am sure glad he won the overall 1st prize, he definitely deserves it!!!
Best Op22 this year 👍👍👍
Thanks for ever Chopin Institute! 💐🇦🇷
Primo premio meritatissimo!
A M A Z I N G!!!
Brak słów po prostu genialne wykonane
Thank you Bruce, here in Brazil 🇧🇷 allowing us to hear such a beautiful interpretation of this beautiful work by Chopin
Jest niezwykły ! 💖
As a fellow Canadian, I am very proud of this guy. He's very humble. However he puts his soul into his playing. Just beautiful. Thanks, Bruce!
Totally agree with you although I am not Canadian. Bruce’s playing is phenomenal, I can’t get enough of hearing him play. He’s a gem for Canada 🇨🇦!
It's just Marvellous!!!
I just love to see his hands❤️, long and strong fingers with all the powers and sweetness 🌹
Beautiful hands!
Beautiful presentation! Great interpretation! Thank you!
With the greatest skills yes
Słucham często I nigdy nie mam dość...🤗
Ja tez slucham czesto i chetnie.
The melody at 8:06 is so gorgeous
Gracias siempre!🇦🇷
Polonaise in his interpretation is marvelous. Out of this planet.
Great interpretation! Thank you so much!😊👍👏
The Fazioli sounds eXactly like his favorite girl friend here 😍..just loved his comparison in the interview.Very solid and singing clang ,giving serious opposition to the Steinway & sons

Piękne wykonanie
A true master of the art.
Absolutely perfect as always 👏

So beautiful!! 🙂️
P E R F E I T O. Nunca vi isso tão bem tocado tanto na parte técnica quanto na interpretação.
Liu and the Fazioli = wow!
Olá Bruce! Não canso de ouvi-lo!❤
Deslumbrante siempre! Gracias Chopin Institute.
Wow!!!!!! Really Chopin~~~~~~
Chopin would so proud with your BRILLIANT interpretation! Bravo Bravissimo! 👏
Very light and airy approach ,demands certainly higher skills
Together with Avery he had the BEST polonaise for me. Sparkling, dramatic, brave, and with enough "I-CAN-NEVER-DO-IT-THE-WAY-HE-DOES" to get me really excited!
Yes! Absolutely! As a pianist I get this feeling all the time listening to him. Not that I want to copy him or something, but to admire how much effect and uniqueness his playing brings.
Spectacularly masterful!
He is an Alchemist of the music,
and his performance is off the charts, and full of admiration and emotion, and comfortable to the ear and the mind
Perfect !!!!!
❤❤❤ break my heart ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Just gorgeous. Bravo.
fantastic
Bravo!
The andante with this polonaise was delicately introduced; played with an eye to detail. Unusual sostenuto hand action. The polonaise was in the same vein, but robust where indicated. A thoughtful performance, with quite brilliant execution. Illuminating . Thank you.
BRUCE LI(U) IN NOSTALGY...
Well deserved 🎉
So beautiful
so delicate and refined, Dang thai Son taught him well
Truly art of sound
Would be nice to know who has been in charge with the basics, such a lovely way to take a single note out of the piano..
Bruce vibrato....it is so good polonaise
Beautiful ~~!
It’s mesmerizing , he is breathtaking but in the same time with a great softness.I hope to see him soon on a stage in France, in California and so on….🌻🌼🥰🙌🎵🎶
0:23 he won because he knows how to vibrato on the piano
Dang Thai Son taught him well.
@@geraldrousseau1122 you re right, one can hear the philosophy here, such a beautiful sound world he gets out of the Fazioli
Of course!😄 I love it! I adopted this vibrato motion in my own playing, it’s liberating and exhilarating! You should try it sometime!
Great, excellent interoretation and executiion...BRAVOOOOO!!!
Gratulacje, cudo,cudo.
No tengo palabras...👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🇦🇷
@@weiliao3158 Así es " modesto caballero".
Gracias!
@@beatrizlejarza8694 Yes, you are right, 謙謙君子 means: A humble gentleman. But Google didn't translate 溫文爾雅, which means: Kind and elegant. Have a good day!
On second thought, maybe a person has to be kind and elegant to be called a "gentleman". So, it's no need to translate "溫文爾雅". 🙂
@@weiliao3158 Thanks you!
Maravilloso!!!!
Deus te abençoe. Te dê saúde e paz. SEMPRE
Nos te amamos Bruce
Two pieces I would *love* to hear you perform, when you have time.
The Liszt Sonata based on the final form of his manuscript.
Ravel's Miroirs in full.
Personal and unique ❤️
Bravo!! so elegant
Congrats!!!
Splendid unique!!💖❤️
He has it all and he's magic ! Gadjiev is a genius but LIU is the grand communicator ! Genius storyteller ! He holds us spellbound ! He has depth. The Andante has never said so much as with him. Hofmann is smiling !
You thought of Hofman as well? Me too! Although I dislike Hofman's approach on Chopin...
Bruce is even more of a genius than Alexander G.
Bruce won my heart! Amazing pianist.
@@judynelson5038 my heart ❤️ ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Really interesting. It feels like he's found all the goodies and is just enjoying laying them out for himself and us - superbly of course. And yet there is more to come as he puts it together with the total panache he has ready. Give it a year and he'll amaze us all - and himself - on this piece. Can't wait.
you re right,it would also be interesting to hear if he s up to making a marvelous studio recording of this also ,,or is he more interested in live performing
@@miamargareta9997 Good observation. First instinct is he needs pby wants to extend himself with live performance. He has to discover himself - and enjoy doing it - then bring it to the studio...
He is unique. He looks like a student practicing the piano. He makes me smile.
He looks like a master to me!
Yes a very hard working and intelligent student 👩🎓!!!😄 maybe also a genius?😄
My favorite ones are Bruce liu and Li yun di for this piece
